For me: NCIS Workout Game:

When Gibbs gives someone a headsmack...do 15 squats.
When DiNozzo makes a movie reference or does an impression...do 10 pushups.
When Ziva flubs an English word or phrase...do 25 crunches.
When McGee says something computer-technical...jog in place for 1 minute.
When Abby drinks a Caf-Pow...do 10 bridges.
When Ducky goes off on a tangent...do 15 reverse crunches.
When Palmer puts his foot in his mouth...do 10 lunges.
When the director argues with Gibbs...do 30 seconds of jumping jacks.
When there's a flashback...do a 30 second plank.
When someone doesn't know what NCIS stands for...do 10 tricep dips.

I plan to do this on Tuesday!

This week's challenge is also simple: list three things you like about yourself, either here or in a blog. These can be physical things or emotional things or whatever, but must be about YOU. :)

I love this challenge, TaMara!

I exercised this morning for the first time since the Half Marathon on January 12th! I did several seated workout dvds and I feel so much better for having done them. If I do the videos, which are a total of 32 minutes for the 3 of them at least 3 times between now and Sunday, I'm getting myself a pedicure!

What's everyone else going to do?

This week's challenge is fun and easy! I want you to set a goal that is attainable within one week, that's seven days, and reward yourself with a non-food reward. If you struggle with exercise, set a goal to to get in at least 15 min of cardio 3x a week. If you tend to avoid strength training, try a quick ST video on Spark and do it 2x week. If you find yourself struggling to stay on track with your healthy eating habits, make a smart eating choice by passing up your regular sweet treat or salty snack for fruit or veggies. If you usually drink soda, opt for water instead.

Your reward for reaching your mini goal should be something fun, something that will make you feel good about yourself. Treat yourself to a mani/pedi, 30 min to an hour of "YOU" time, buy yourself a new piece of clothing, etc.

Thanks Mary Jane...for me i think it mentally is easier for me to look at losing 6.6 lbs this month than a total of 25 lbs...so i like to see if this will make it easier for me not to derail on diet and exercise...thanks for the challenge idea!!!

Awesome Kim!

I know some people will be able to do this in 5% increments monthly - mostly those without a lot to lose (except for very slow losers like Amanda) and at first it would work for those who need to lose a lot of weight but it would taper off after a while. I wasn't even really expecting anyone to actually DO it, but that's cool that you are going to try. What the goal in this exercise was to show people that taking the weight off in small increments monthly adds up over time and makes the task of getting to a goal weight a whole lot less daunting than having to look at the big picture.

Great exercise! It would take me three months to get to my goal (actually, a little past goal). Unfortunately, there's no way I'd ever be able to lose that much in a month, haha! Takes me at least three months to lose 5%. I"m hoping to lose about 16% of my body weight this year. :)

Ack! Here it is Wednesday already and I forgot it was my turn to do the weekly challenge! So sorry!

This week's challenge involves math. (yuck, I know, but this was interesting!). I calculated that even at my very heavy current weight, I could be at goal in one year if I lost 5% of my body weight per month. This means that while I would lose more the first few months (as we tend to do when we start focusing on a healthier lifestyle) I would lose less each month as I got closer to goal (as we also tend to do when we plateau or continue the same regimen).

Your challenge? Do the math. Calculate how much you would need to lose each month if your goal is 5% of your CURRENT BODY WEIGHT. Each month the amount to lose will change depending on where you should be if you hit goal the previous month. Example: Say your starting weight is 200 pounds. 5% of 200 is 10 pounds. If you lost the 10 pounds you would weigh 190 in one month. The next month's goal would be to lose 5% of 190 pounds which would be 9.5 pounds...etc, etc. Calculate using this formula how many months it would take you to get to your goal weight. You don't have to post how much you would have to lose or how long it would take you - but you can if you wish. I just want us to be aware how much difference a 5% loss means to your body and how much less daunting it is if we look at our goals as smaller monthly goals instead of the overwhelming "big picture" goals that a lot of us which to eventually achieve. I'm not saying it is feasible to hit 5% each month, but it is something to shoot for!

This week's challenge is easy peasy!

1) If you are a new member, new to exercise, or starting over; I challenge you to exercise for just 10 min a day, 5 days a week.

OR

2) If you're a regular at exercise, I challenge you to add an additional 10 minutes of cardio or strength training to your regular routine 3-5 days a week.

Each week on Sunday or Monday one of your fearless leaders will post a challenge (or two) for you to complete. The challenges will be voluntary, but let me tell you that statistics show the more involved you are in a social setting like SparkPeople offers, the more likely you are to be successful in your goals. This is an easy, free way to give/get a little accountability into your healthy journey!

January 2nd through January 5th...new members, new goals, new attitudes!

I challenge you this week to do two things:

1) If you are NOT a new member, I challenge you to greet 3 new members on their spark page, as well as give a warm welcome in the huddle on the team page. If you ARE a new member, I challenge you to tell us a bit about yourself on the team page in the Introduce Yourself forum.

2) I challenge everyone to write a blog...just a few sentences or a mini-novel, telling us what you are going to do different this year in regards to your healthy journey. What are your goals? What has/hasn't worked for you in the past? What's on your mind?

There are your challenges. I double dog dare you to complete them! emoticon emoticon
