Helpful Hint:
Here are 3 easy ways to load up on fruits and veggies and increase those numbers. 1) Make a smoothie - Add fruit, veggies, ice, milk or juice and you've got a great post workout snack of breakfast. You can easily get 3+ servings or freggies in this one beverage.
2) Make vegetable soup - Start with a base of chicken stock for more flavor and add everything from green beans to corn, potatoes to kale for a hearty dinner that doubles as lunch the next day!
3) Make a BIG salad - Start with a bed of mixed greens and add spinach, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc. and you've got a filling lunch. Add some grilled chicken or eggs for extra protein and you're good to go!

Sorry team I've just not been posting my veggies like I should. I've been eating them ~ had spinach (2cups) four days this, 2 sweet potatoes, one beet, peaches (twice), 4 apples, 2 pears, 2 cups green greens. And tonight spinach and black beans.

Horning in our your team page to post a link to a great side dish recipe that is easy to make, only 90 calories, and will satisfy the sweet and crunch craving so many of us get. A great way to add in some fruit and veggies as well! It's a carrot/apple/pineapple/yogurt slaw that I'm going to try tonight!

9/12 wasn't a good day 2 apples and a small lettuce and tomato salad
9/13 today was better 1 c mango, small pear, 3 c spinach, small apple and a c of strawberries. Great smoothie! Lunch was healthy but I did get a cup of lettuce and tomatoes.

Helpful Hint: Frozen grapes make a yummy snack that you can make in advance and reach for easily. You can also roll them in jello (the unmixed powder) to make "sour patch" grapes. Yummy!

Helpful Hint: Make veggie soup! Chop and steam 4 bunches of broccoli, 1 bunch of cauliflower, and 2 potatoes. Add vegetable broth, water, salt, white pepper, and a 1/4 cup cream. After blending it you have a bowl full of yummy veggies. Makes about 6 to 8 servings. Prep time 30 minutes. This recipe is also awesome with pumpkin, carrots, and potatoes since fall is coming up. Pretty much the same recipe. Just swap the white pepper for a little bit of cinnamon. Experiment with different vegetables and spices, have fun, and enjoy some fabulously funky freggie soup.

Frozen or fresh fruit works well and if you don't like yogurt, try greek yogurt or cottage cheese. This can be used as a post workout snack as well, since it's got protein to help muscles recover!

Here's your Helpful Hint of the day:
Freeze sliced bananas when they become ripe and you've got a great snack or the beginnings of a great smootthie! It's the only way I've found to keep my bananas from getting overripe before I'm ready to eat them, even when I buy the green ones!

As of right now, Teresa(LIVESTRONG2012) is in the lead with 27 servings of fruits and vegetables!!! Wanna know how she does it? She's a smoothie lover!!! So this brings us to today's Helpful Hint:
Want to get more freggies in your diet? Break out your blender and stuff it with all sorts of fruit and leafy greens!! Some suggestions are bananas, apples, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, kale, spinach, and cucumbers! These are just suggestions, you pick what you like! I promise, all the yummy sweetness of your fruit shines through and you won't taste the veggies. The cucumbers add a nice freshness in my opinion. Add in some juice, milk, yogurt, protein powder, or whatever you fancy and you're good to go!

I hope to see lots of activity on the thread by way of words of encouragement, recipes, and TONS of fruit and veggie intake!! If you struggle with getting in enough freggies, this will be a great challenge for you!!
Helpful Hint: We do "Meatless Monday" in my house which is a great way to increase fruit and veggie intake! It can be a challenge to think of filling veggie laden meals, but that's part of the fun! It's an idea I wanted to share with y'all as just one of many ways to get in those veggies. The fruits seem to be a lot easier on most people, but I'll posting helpful hints like this all month long, so be sure you check and comment on the team thread often!
Don't be afraid to ask a question if you have one. We're all here to learn from each other and there is no such thing as a stupid question. So post them here on the thread or send me a message!!

You may end up with more members as the deadline isn't reached yet, but the challenge is on!
