And now the results! First I would really like to thank y'all for participating in this challenge. I'm so proud of many of you for really pushing forth and giving this difficult month a kick in the head. And even though some of us really had some struggles, you still showed up for game day and I thank you for that. Looking at the numbers, well, the numbers themselves aren't the best, but I don't care about those numbers, I only care that you all made it through December and that hopefully you learned that you can have a healthy lifestyle while still enjoying your holiday.

Alrighty team, we're coming to the end of our year long EPIC challenge, and it kinda makes me want to cry. Ending's always do that to me. Last night was really fun, my son and I got in the livingroom floor last night and had a sit up contest. I was so excited to get him to do some activity!

Turning in 3 points for the week, and total of 13, total weight loss of 8 pounds through the month. On Monday I'll get all the points tallied and let everyone know how we did. I am so proud to have been your leader for Team Soul. And don't forget to keep looking, I'll have some good info for you come this time tomorrow.

Happy New Year's Eve emoticon ! How is everybody doing? Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day I have not been outside but I can see our beautiful bright sun shining down. I am fixing to go grocery shopping and I kind of dread it since it is already going to be 1 p.m. and there are so many people out there. Hopefully I will run into the store with what I need to get for today's appetizers and I will run out.....but before I get busy I want to report how I did this week logging= 0, exercising=1 and just completed a quick blog= 1 for the total of 2 points for the week. For this Epic challenge I have at total of 13 points. Yeaah! I will be back later on to see how the rest of my team is doing and I am anxiously waiting for Elexey to reveal something!!

Okay, so this week I claim 2 points.

1 Point for Blogging (and living on SparkPeople)
1 Point for Exercise (which I finally started to do again)

I am not claiming the logging food point since I only did part of the week.

Not sure of my monthly total, but it was not up to par with what I normally do.

SLUCIO - just remember not to beat yourself up over the too many calories you had - IN THE PAST!!! This will only drag you down. Focus on what you can do for yourself going forward. Love that you noted you are eating a healthy lunch yesterday. Keep it up.

For me, I am having a great day of little work and quiet around the home. I cleaned up Christmas last night - while the family was traveling - so I could get my house back into the shape it was in previously. It is so much easier to clean when your family, mother in law and dogs are all gone. Things stay clean for more than five minutes. Imagine that!!!

Hope you all are doing well as we prepare for the final day of 2011. Keep strong TEAM SOUL!!!

SPARK ON!!!

So, lame excuse of the day for not getting any exercise in yesterday - my wife and daughter were too tired to work out.

Notice I did not say that I was too tired but that my family members were. We were supposed to go together to the gym but refrained due to their lack of energy. Okay, I could have gone on my own, but they provided the excuse I needed not to attend.

Need to do better tonight and get my lazy butt out there to do something.

Good morning team!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am back in the office after the long holiday weekend and it is nice to be back here. I forgot how much I like the quiet that comes with the early morning arrivals to the office. I can get a few things done and enjoy the peace and quiet.

So, after yesterday's success at the gym, I plan on going back again this evening. Right now, the knee is not 100% but it does feel alright and I think I can make it through another session of cycling and elliptical. It feels good to get the blood flowing again.

Hope everyone is recovering from the post-holiday hangover that comes with Christmas and is ready to rock these last 5 days of 2011.

SPARK ON TEAM SOUL!!!

Hey team!! Guess what I did today?? No, I did not run. But, I did exercise. Thirty minutes on a stationary bike, thirty on a elliptical machine and twenty minutes of strength training...AND IT FELT GREAT!!

Although, my knee is paying for it now, it gave me such a high. I also bowled with my wife and kids for 2 hours so that is exercise too.

Woo hoo!!!

Okay, so for a SparkTeam Leader, I sure am failing on this last leg of EPIC. I only got one point again and again I have the same excuses. :-(

I got 1 point this week, which is sad as I seem to be on SparkPeople all the time. Not sure what is keeping me from logging my food. I know I have needed to do it, but just not doing it. I also still cannot exercise due to the knee problems, but at least that will be resolved soon.

So, I only got the one point for blogging. I will try to better this last week, if anything just to not let the team down.

Merry Christmas to all of my EPIC SOUL teammates.

Ann, so sorry to hear about what is happening with your grandmother. Cannot be easy, especially at the holidays where we tend to think about the memories of the past. I also agree with Elva - you are doing GREAT!!! Way to go!!

Elva, I am so not ready for 2011 to be over. This was a great year for me, especially the latter half of 2012 when I really became dedicated to two things - running and SparkPeople. I cannot tell you how much these two things have enhanced my life far past where I was at any point in my life. Many thanks to you this holiday season for the leadership you have provided to us all throughout 2011.

Team, I am feeling like I am starting to turn a corner and while I cannot run the rest of 2011, which is a bummer, I did find out that my injury is not serious and they doctor feels that some steroid injections will take care of my issues. I will have these shots after the new year - Jan 2nd to be exact - and after a week or so, I am back on the road. I am so happy about this. Very excited and I expect big things from me in 2012. It is going to be a good year - a fantastic year!

But, I can also say, if there is one group I want to close out 2011 with, it is with you all - right here and right now!!

GO TEAM SOUL!! Lets close out 2011 with success!!!

SPARK ON!!!

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

I'm sorry your grandma isn't doing well Ann, have a safe trip. I'm very proud of how you're rocking this challenge

Team Soul I know this week is crazy crazy busy and I hope everyone is having a great week. I can't believe that after all the rushing, baking, cooking, shopping, and the insanity of the past several weeks, in just 4 days it will be over and we can look forward to planning a new year. Can you believe it?!?

LOL, Elexey.... I was going to tell you: "I got it. You can stop now!"
Technology is a wonderful thing, until it backfires.

I am leaving tomorrow morning for a very long drive to Rio Grande Valley to see my ailing Grandmother. Most of us didn't think she would make it to Christmas, and last word I have is that she is very sick, so that makes this trip even more important.

I come back on Monday, then leave again on Thursday for my first ever trip to go snow skiing! I have been hitting the cardio and the crunches and the squats at the gym EVERY DAY. Somehow I'm thinking its not going to mean too much though when I get on those very slim, little snow skis.

Since I will be travelling, I'm going to go ahead and turn in 2 points now for the week. I've already exceeded my usual exercise for the week and I did blog... but i'm feeling pretty sure I won't be tracking my food while at my grandmother's home.

This will likey be the last time I post before Christmas, so Happy Hannukah and Merry
Christmas to all my Epic Soul team mates!

Ann

Don't wish for it... WORK for it!

Another good day with the family. Had a great meal at the Chart House restaurant. Things were not perfect, but I no longer expect perfection. I had these wonderful scallops and orzo pasta over looking the city.

I love it!! Keep Sparking on Team.

Ann, it's not about how active of a participant WE want you to be, it's a matter of how active a participant you need to be for success on your journey, only you can decide that. No one doubts people's busy lives, I promise. For example, I have an 18 month old very active daughter, a 15 year son with a high functioning form of Autism, we live with (and I care for) my disabled parents, plus the holidays, and doc's appointments for everyone. So I do understand busy, however, I am one of the folks that really cling to Spark because it has been my lifeline. I have more success with the closeness of this group, then without. So I NEED the people on this team, and many of us do, it just helps us so very much. We definitely don't want you to be here more often then you need or are able to be, we completely understand that not everyone needs Spark as much as some of us do.

Team Soul ROCKS!!! Just saying. I hope you all are having a Woo Hoo day!

Ann, no worries. I am just one of those people who believes that Spark works the more you get into it. I understand busyness and I hope your journey continues successfully. You sound like you have a lot on your plate.

Elexey, I am so glad you got your shopping done. Dont be like me and wait until the last minute on somethings. I still have some to get and tomorrow is my wife's birthday so I have to take care of that as well - and no mixing with christmas either.

Have a great day all!!

In response to the emails regarding my lack of participation on this thread.... I'm sorry I am not as active of a participant you want me to be. It's the holidays, I have a 40+ hour a week job as a Project Manager, I'm taking two major trips in the next week, AND I'm a grad school student.

Please be understanding. I try to limit the amount of time I'm on a computer, simply because it would take over my life.

On top of all of this, I have rededicated my life to getting fit again, and as you know, spending an hour in the gym also takes away from your day.

Again, thanks for your understanding.
Ann

Neil, I'm sorry to hear that the knee seems to be a more serious issue. I'll be praying that it's not something that will require surgery, and physical therapy will take care of it.

I have been stuck under waves of shoppers! My goodness it's crazy out there! Good news for me though is my shopping is all done. This week is full of doc apps. for mom, dad, and my son, then tons of baking through the week, and cooking the end of the week. I'm super excited about what this week will bring!

Quiet Monday on the team message thread today...where is everyone hiding at? Do you all still exist? Are you buried under piles of presents? Getting ready for the holidays??

What is up team??

Okay, latest news for the team....

I just got back from the Orthopedic doctor and they are leaning towards a meniscus issue, but does not know the severity yet until I can get an MRI. A meniscus issue may be more serious than just the 'runner's knee' I was diagnosed with through a physical therapist.

Oh well...it is what it is and I will deal with whatever they tell me. But, the odds of surgery is now increased, although it may not be needed. We will see what the MRI reveals. I do know my running journey is on a longer hold than I previously thought.

Woo hoo!!! Way to go, Team Soul. Looks like I held the team back this week with my points but I will get better.

Not sure about you all, but today is a turning point for me with my injury. I have physical therapy and x-rays today on my knee. I cannot begin to tell you how nervous I am. Hopefully, they will find nothing.

I will update everyone later but all I can say is I really need this to be alright. I need my running. I really do.

GO TEAM SOUL!

Sorry team, but I only have 2 points again. I just forget to log food on weekends! But I'm still knocking it out of the park with my exercise so I'm happy about that!

Hi Team Soul! Yes, it has been a busy and stressful week and I do not like this one bit. I find myself eating more than the usual, moody and hyper. I constantly have to remind myself to chill out. ... I shall survive. May everyone have a wonderful safe week. Keep on sparking TEAM SOUL!

Slucio, you are so right!! I need to start focusing on other areas of my body and not just rely on running. It is just when you do something for so long and it brings you such energy, it is hard to do something else.

As an update on my condition to all to everyone, I am continuing to have pain in my left knee which I am very concerned about but have come to terms with. I have not only ongoing physical therapy appointments but also will be seeing an orthopedic doctor on Monday for some x-rays.

I will provide an update late on Monday with what I am told. Putting on my internet doctor hat, which is always a dangerous thing, I think I have a meniscus tear, which could mean a lengthy break from running. But, I will survive. I will just exercise my fingers on the SparkPeople keyboard.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Good evening Team Soul! How is everybody doing? I have been fine. Elexey I hope your doing much better getting over those nasty migraines...Neil, I hope you recover soon and maybe you can try incorporating some upper body strengthening exercises? Just a thought.... Christy, I read your blog and it made me cry to hear about this horrible experience that broke your heart. I hope your doing better and taking care of yourself....
I have been out and about this Saturday in the morning I went out for a brisk 35 mins. walk, then I went shopping for Christmas presents (Geez... teenagers are expensive), then I volunteered along w/my younger sis and 16 yr old at the Feast of Sharing downtown. Yep, I was there taking out beverages and placing them on the table (simple stuff) and boyyy, there was alot of people. Well, it was fun!
Okay so I want to report how I did this week:
logging food=1
exercising=1
blogging my journey=1
total for the wk. 3 and total so far for this EPIC challenge=9. emoticon !
Although, I have not lost any more weight because I keep going over my calorie range. This stinks! I feel as if I do not have any willpower during this time of year...this upcoming week I am going to try my best to stay focused and just say no, Sonia has to remember to limit herself, to those sweets and traditonal foods we like to eat during the holidays....Allright, I hope everyone else is doing fine and may we enjoy the rest of the weekend. Goodnight!

Great job getting three points, Elexey. I am so proud of you. I know you have been going through a lot and then December has been a great turnaround for you.

So, team...where are the rest of you at? December been a good month for you? Are you rockin' this leg of EPIC? I am getting better although I am not exercising the way I should. So far, my weight has not been impacted and I am holding steady, which is a good thing.

Happy Holidays all and SPARK ON!!!

Hey team! I can't express how excited I am for the rest of this year. I know Team Soul has had a rough week, but you know what? Our team is full of unbelievably amazing people that I fully believe have the capability of stomping a mudhole in 2011. So lets show it who's boss!
I got in all 3 points this week for a running total of 8.

Elexey - sorry to hear about your migraines. OUCH!!! I hope you recover quickly and get back to your old self in no time at all.

4Christ777 - sorry about the events in your life recently. I know that it brings you much sorry and you are working through this pain. I hope that God provides you a peace and protection that can only come from Him.

My points are not great this week. I got only 1 point. My apologies. Here is why:

1 - Blog was done
0 - Did not track food well and not at all on some days
0 - Exercise (I cannot exercise right now due to injury and recovery)

So - 1 point total for the week. But, at least it is one point and not zero. :-D Next week, I will look to double my totals. Still cannot exercise and need to find out what I can do. Walking hurts right now so...need alternatives. I am sure I will find something.

I know, I will smile really big a lot. That will exercise my facial muscles. Does that count?

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

If you don't log because there's nothing to log, but you've logged the other days then that counts. And I won't say anything about how you need to take care of yourself. ;)

Elva, I'm so sorry you are experiencing these migraines from hell. I can so relate. Take care of you.

Sorry I haven't been active. My blog How evil people can be explains what I've been going through.

Points;

Logging Food: 0
Exercise: 0
Journey Blog: 1

Total: 1 Running Total; 4

Question: I really haven't been eating and when I do eat, it's a small portion. For example, I had nothing but coffee one day. I have track what I did eat. So, if I didn't track my food intake due to nothing to log, do I count that as 1 point?

Oh my goodness team I am about ready to cut my head off! I haven't had a migraine like this in years! I know I've been missing most of this week, I truly truly apologize, if you suffer from headaches or migraines then you know that staring at a bright computer feels like needles in your head through your eyes. Please please forgive me and know that I am forever thinking about you. I am hoping that by later on today I can give this a go again. I know you all have been rockin' it this week because Team Soul is super incredibly fabulous! And I'm extra excited that our Neil is back to being his positive self that we adore so much!

SLUCIO - isnt it great when our children encourage us to put up our decorations. I swear I would never do if it were not for my children. They remind me at this time of year that we should celebrate and decorate with the eyes of a child. I LOVE IT!!!

So, it is Friday all and I hope you all had a good week. Keep strong and vigilant on our journey. This is the time of the year that can destroy a diet and exercise plan. Keep focused. Keep strong and SPARK ON!!!

BTW, I am having a great morning. This is going to be a great and fantastic day!!! Woo hoo!!!

emoticon Hi Team Soul! How is everyone doing? I am doing okay. Not bad for a Thursday. I can't believe tomorrow is Friday--boy did this week fly by.
Hey, Elexey did you get around to putting up your Christmas decorations? I was surprised I started putting mine up after Thanksgiving and for this I have to thank Joseph (my 7 yr. old) because he was the one constantly begging my husband and I to put up the Christmas tree w/decorations. Well, I am going to get to typing out my blog. Better do it now before I say there's tomorrow. I hope everyone is doing fine this evening. GO TEAM SOUL!

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday to you. I wanted to send to you all well wishes today as we all focus on healthy eating, being honest through blogging about where we are at and exercise.

I realize that I have not been the best of Sparkers over the last four weeks or so - maybe longer. I have been so focused on myself and the efforts to complete my half marathons, I forgot about the relationships I had on here. I have been bad at reading/commenting on people's blogs and SparkPages. I have hardly posted, except where required by EPIC. I have not been honest with myself or with you - a half truth or incomplete truth is just like a lie, right?

No more!!! POSITIVE_ONE IS BACK!!!! We are barreling towards Christmas and New Years and 2011 has flown by like no other year (at least no other year I have experienced). I miss my SparkFriends and I miss my EPIC TEAM SOUL.

The dark clouds are parting, my focus is no longer on self and I will be here with you all.

Be strong everyone and SPARK ON!!!! (man, it feels good to say that).

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

So, just an update...

I went to physical therapy today and got my prognosis on my knee. I was told I have runners knee (patella tendonitis) and was told until my therapy is done I cannot run. Which means, I cannot run until Christmas weekend. Oh well...hopefully therapy helps. If it does not, then they will do x-rays - which means most likely a meniscus tear and more rest.

Basically, until I can do downstairs or walk downhill without pain, I should not be running.

Hopefully I recover quickly. Time to find different exercises to do in the short term. Funny, I really like running and to not do it is like losing a part of me.

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

Thanks for the back up Sonia, I truly appreciate that.
Neil, so very sorry you're in a no run zone right now, I know how important your running is for you, try to think about it this way, a week away equals a healthier knee so that you can enjoy many many years of running. Sending lots of hugs to you.

Team Soul, I must apologize for being absent lately, I have been dealing with a migraine for two days now, it's just lingering a bit this morning so I am praying that it takes flight completely today because I have entirely too much to take care of! We've been such sickies around here we haven't even been able to decorate the house, isn't that horrible?!?

I hope you all have a wonderful Woo Hoo Wednesday!!!

So, today is my hardest day yet with SparkPeople and I am trying to do all I can to avoid eating due to depression. For those of you who do not know me well, my journey over the last 5 months has had a focus on running. In that time, I have been able to do many things, including completing two half marathons.

I was so encouraged, that I signed up to complete my first full marathon in March and I signed up for a training program to help me get there.

Well, this past Saturday, I ran a 5K which I complete in an amazing time for me. But, the next day I could not run a 1/4 mile and my knee has pain like never before. I need my running. It is giving me a high like nothing else has before and I cannot imagine life without it.

But, I have to go at least one week, maybe more, without it. I am sitting here in my office trying hard not to let it get me too down and hoping to not supplement it with bad foods to ease my unhappiness. I am sure a lot of you know what I am talking about. We have all done it at one time or another.

So that is my battle for today. Hopefully, being on here all day will remind me of what is important.

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

Hey team Soul, today I got back to basics and have been eating clean all day. The most difficult part has been not having any cream in my coffee, but aside from that it's all good and I feel pretty good and excited about the progress I know I'll see soon. Have a wonderful evening.

Well, it is not exactly right, but I love the enthusiasm. Basically, you get one point weekly for doing each of the following:

1. Exercise 5 minutes more than normal. If you do 30 minutes of exercise, do 35. You must do this at least three times in one week to get that weekly point.
2. Log your calories in the Nutrition Tracker. You can find that in the My Trackers portion of the site.
3. Do at least one blog a week.

That is it. Just do those three things and keep in touch with your team through the Team SOUL message board. Small things that can make a big difference.

Remember that this road we are on is a journey - not a race. No one ever achieved a healthy body and mind over night.

Hey guys! (hopefully this won't be a dbl post, I posted once but it didn't show up!)
I have 2 points to report. I hosted our company party at my house and tracking my food went on the back burner a couple of days. But I did make it in to the gym 5 out of 7 days so I am still celebrating.

Don't wish for it... WORK for it!

Hey Team Soul, I hope everyone has a plan for success to tackle this week. Personally I'll be getting back to basics, starting over with baby steps and eating clean again. I'm pretty confidant that it will be a great week. What's your plan?

Okay, I have a hard time with my points this week due to travel and the way I did things. I am going to claim three but let me provide some clarification:

1. Logging Food - I was able to log all that I ate except for the time in Vegas when I ate sporadically and nothing really matched up to anything that was in the Nutrition Tracker. 1 Point

2. Exercise - I did exercise and ran two races, along with starting training for my next marathon. If setting two personal records in two running races is not doing more than expected, I do not know what is. 1 Point.

3. I posted blogs post my run. 1 Point.

This week: 3 Points
Total: 5 Points.

Have a great rest of the weekend all. GET YOUR POINTS IN!!!!

Good evening Team Soul!! Well, I am here emoticon and I did not go to my holiday Christmas party after all. I have been out and about looking for Christmas gifts and I did not get in until 7 p.m.. I do not regret not going to the party I am not much of a party person anyways and I do not drink besides the weather does not convince me to go out there. Well, all is okay except for my mid back it aches as well as my shoulders and the balls of my feet hurt this may be related to wearing my new boots yesterday. Aaaah, I will survive.

Hey Neil this is awesome you ran with your son-- awwwh, I am glad you both had a great time. Beautiful moments to cherish with your boy!

Elexey, I had a nice luncheon yesterday everyone was dressed nice in their Christmassy attire ready to take a staff picture and the food was not healthy but oooh well, I did my best to add it into my nutrition tracker and yep it's hard to track food that you or I do not know how many calories are in it but guessing is what I had to do.

I am posting my EPIC points for the week:

Logged my daily food intake=1
Blogged at least 1 x wk= 1
Added another exercise or 5 more mins. to my workout=1

Total for the week= 3
Total as of now for this EPIC leg= 6

Yay emoticon Sonia!

Just got back from the run with my son and we had a great time. I ran with my son at the start and he encouraged me to give it my all and not wait up for him. So, based on that...I pushed myself to see if I could reach a goal I have always wanted to reach, an under 30 minute 5K.

After pushing myself hard - I ended up with a time of 28:44. My son ended at 39:40. I am so proud of him for the effort he gave and I cannot wait for the next one we do together.
