Oh no! Try to stay positive-- maybe it is "womanly weight" or maybe it is muscle! Don't give up yet and TRY not to be discouraged. Do you have any non-scale victories you can be proud of?

I think joining the upcoming challenge could be just what you need. Encouragement and support in this form is really helpful.

Not sure what to do...I stepped on the scale and gaine 5 lbs already back and the holidays coming. I need something just not sure what? I don't think I'm a good person to consult with challenges right now. I'm rather stressed out these days. sigh...

I can also lead..

Another idea... maybe we could somehow work in points or "bonuses" for attending meetups? They don't even have to be just Sparkies meeting, but we could use some of the local 5k walks as meet ups, a few team hikes and walks. Just ideas... I can probably help organize if need be. :)

Lillie, if you run short of team leaders, you can throw me in there. I would ask however that you take all those who WILLINGLY volunteer for the position first. I will give you 100% if you need me, but if you don't I would be happier as a participant only. Wow, have you ever had a more reluctant volunteer? emoticon

This plan looks great, Lillie! I'll be more than happy to step up as a Team Leader!

With individual stats, I think it is important that we calculate our own percentages. That way Team Leaders aren't overwhelmed either!

If everyone is responsible for themselves, this should be a REALLY fun challenge.

I like the direction this is headed. I love that it is inches too since the weight doesn't always show the effort. I think the accountability is important too. This is on the right track.

Well, as I ate dinner, I mulled this over in my head for a bit------ here is what would be interesting.....

If we had teams with leaders, we could have infinite more flexibility because I alone would not have to keep up with everyone.

SO-- for example let's just throw this out there: if we had 4 teams, there could be an inches winner PER TEAM and a weight winner PER TEAM.... then an OVERALL winner. On top of that, there would be team victories-- the team with the most inches lost and the most weight lost (though we would have to go by percentage like they do on Biggest Loser to be fair). Ya saavy? Let me break this down:

Individual Inches Winner per team
Individual Weight Winner per team
Individual Inches Winner Overall
Individual Weight Winner Overall

Team With Most Pounds Lost
Team With Most Inches Lost

Individual With Most Fitness Minutes
Individual With Most In-Range Calorie Days

Team With Most Fitness Minutes
Team With Most In-Range Calorie Days

Individual With Most SparkPoints
Team With Most SparkPoints

Do you see? But there is NO WAY I could keep up with all of this for everyone.... so I would HAVE TO HAVE team leaders.

But, all of the above would work easily. It is enough goals to keep everyone going, and motivation because there are a LOT of ways you could win. With a team mentality, people work harder for the team as well. The best part is since it is by fitness minutes, you can do everything at your own pace--- so Tim can blast us all out of the water. Haha.

What do you guys think of that? Help me find holes here. Haha. I need team leaders.

Thoughts:

Biggest loser is fun - based on percentage lost would be good.

Tracking and Exercise are great too, I think a very important thing to do.

Too many things to keep track of make it difficult, esp. through the holidays. KISS (Keep it Simple, Smarty!) :)

100 pts is a lot, 50 can be a challenge for me too and I don't think I can do that through the holidays with days off, travel, etc.

Yes, I would be willing to be a leader.

Ok that's my input!

Love it, Lillie! But are you (and everyone else) open to having the most weight lost and most inches lost as a separate INDIVIDUAL goal instead of as part of the team goal? I love the team aspect for all of the other challenge/goals, but inches and weight recognizes the INDIVIDUAL for the hard work they and they alone have done. Does that complicate things too much? You know me, I go with the flow, but if you are still bouncing ideas I would like to throw that one into the mix!

I completely agree about food being the #1 priority.

I also feel like maybe we could have a weekly exercise goal--- like burn 2000 calories a week or do 3 hours of exercise a week in some form. I don't know.

I want this to be something everyone is excited about and interested in doing. Something that will keep people TRYING... keep them pushing themselves a little.

I think we can agree that for intake, water and staying in your calorie range are the #1 things.

For exercise, most important is getting people moving for a couple hours a week.

For the site, getting 50 or more points per day is most important. You get those points by tracking but also by being active on the group-- huddles, replies, etc.

I think having a biggest loser for both weight AND inches might be a good idea..... have an official weigh in weekly and only do the official inches at the beginning and the end? We could do a count of who met the most goals overall and also what team met the most goals. Hmmmm....

That could all work. It comes back to the idea that we could basically do the CYOAC again, except you choose your challenges yourself in the beginning.

I like sooo many of the ideas, it is really hard not to say "Oh I like Tim's best" or "Oh I like SASandra's best", etc.

I guess taking the fact as Brandyn said that it IS the holidays we should be goal oriented towards NOT gaining while also NOT feeling terribly deprived. This is a LIFEstyle we are adapting, and treats and indulgences now and then will be part of our life or gosh...how boring will that be? It really needs to be emphasized though, how important tracking EVERYTHING we eat is, especially during festive (make that FEAST-IVE) times. Indulging in a few small treats is NOT the same as eating a whole plate of cookies or half of a pie!

Perhaps we should not make this a challenge about being rigid on our caloric intake but rather about tracking ALL of our food intake and boosting our energy output by increasing our fitness minutes by 15-30 minutes a day?

I would like to see the challenge include a most inches lost and a most weight lost category. Everyone can participate in that easily because we all weigh ourselves and hopefully measure ourselves anyway, right?

This is my input on what I think is more feasible during the holidays, anyway.

That said, I would really love to see all of the things Tim listed as part of our challenge AFTER the new year.

I agree with SASANDRA. I'm consistent with my tracking but IT IS the holidays (and my first with SP) so nutrition and exercise will be key especially as we tend to get bombarded with desserts at work during the holidays.

I think the most important during holidays is Food IN and Calories OUT...so maybe the:

Intake challenge (staying in calorie range, drinking water, etc)

Fitness challenge (getting a certain amount of exercise)

Great ideas! With the holidays I think food tracking challenge would be great since it's so easy to let portion control slip. And as already stated, little bites here and there add up.

Yea, I think regular food tracking is REALLY important during the holiday season especially. How easy is it to just try a bite or two of things and not record it....... when you think of what kinds of foods you are biting.... you could add several hundred calories to your tracker like that!

I really think we need to keep working on the "creating habits" challenges like tracking food and maybe do an ongoing biggest loser deal along with it? Maybe have a few groups who are responsible for one another but weigh in separately? I don't want it to be too complicated.... the CYOAC was tough for a lot of people to understand what I wanted.

I like that the current challenge is an ALL AROUND challenge that covers all aspects of this lifestyle change. Exercise, food intake, being part of this community.... it adds up.

Tim, I like your goals--- but I think it is daunting to a LOT of people. I am not really sure how to make the challenge accessible to EVERYONE unless I let people pick their own numbers. Like, for example... maybe for fitness we could do a starting number-- say people start with 30 minutes... and when they have clocked 30 minutes everyday for 2 weeks straight, they switch to 45 minutes and so forth?

Do you guys see the dilemma here? Haha.

Something like a team biggest loser challenge could keep us going on our healthy eating/workout habits for the holidays. Plus, it would bring us closer as an SA SparkGroup! The more the merrier!

I love all those ideas. I do not know how well I would do, but I will do my best to succeed for myself and team. I would even get my husband involved and help him with his weight. I will go along with whatever you decide on. The only thing I cannot do is running because of my knee injury.

I am starting now to try and iron out our next challenge and would love some input-- this is YOUR team, so I want the challenges to be what YOU want! So, let me know which of the following you would be interested in for the next challenge:

Intake challenge (staying in calorie range, drinking water, etc)

Fitness challenge (getting a certain amount of exercise)

Motivation challenge (being involved with the team)

Buddies or teams to stay accountable to

Lifestyle challenge (like the cleaning challenge or sparkpoints challenge)

Weight loss challenge (lose the most weight)

Inches lost challenge (lose the most inches)

Another create your own challenge but you get to see what you are picking and make your OWN challenge from the choices-- perhaps even grouping you into groups of people doing the same challenges?

That all said, I would like to run the next challenge until the beginning of next year.... I would announce this month's winner on the 29th and start the new challenge on the 31st (a Sunday) ending it on the 1st of January (a Saturday) and starting another challenge on the 2nd until the end of February.

Tell me what you think.
