Hi everyone. Excuse my mispelling...it's late, lol. It should say my story, not my store! I just joined Sparkpeople and this team tonight. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!
In January 2007 I had a routine mammogram that was abnormal. I was 41. Because they couldn't do a needle biopsy, I had the tumor removed in February. I was diagnosed Stage 2B, triple positive. I had a mastectomy in March and 3 out of 16 nodes were positive, as well as the outside of one of the nodes. There was a problem during my surgery and they didn't realize I was bleeding until I was in recovery. By the time they got me back into the operating room, a hemotoma developed at the surgical site. I went to 4 weeks of hyperbaric oxygen treatments to help with the healing. In May I had a port-a-cath put in. A week later I started 6 rounds of Taxotere/Carboplatin/Herceptin. I did 7 weeks of radiation, and Herceptin treatments for a year, which just ended the last week in June. In March of this year I had a total hysterectomy and my ovaries removed. I was put on Tamoxifen for 4 months but switched to Femara due to the instant menopause. I had my first CAT scan done since my treatments in April and they found a very small nodule in my lung and a borderline enlarged lymph node in my chest. I'm having a followup PET scan done in a few weeks. In the meantime, I am focusing on losing this extra weight. After this past year, I realize how precious life is and I've spent too many years sitting on the sidelines of my life because of my extra weight. I don't want to waste any more time. I want to enjoy my family and keep up with my kids (14, 10 and 6)! I'm feeling good and trying to not let fear get the better of me.
