Woohoo way to go Donna! I need to get better at this as well. When you do be sure to track it either here or down in the goals section.

I want to re-commit to walking my two huskies every day. They are both seniors and need that exercise...just like I do : ) I hope writing it down will make it happen!

I bought the girls the easy walker harness. It is to help prevent pulling. Nanook HATES it cause it turns her back into us and she just wants to pull. I hope she catches on soon. It is alot easier for me though. I can actually walk both of them at the same time without being pulled off my feet.

My New Year's Resolution was to take the dog for a walk every day. I've done pretty well when I'm in town. Sometimes she doesn't get to go due to weather, but more often than not, I at least get her out around the block! Hope y'all are taking good care of your little beasties! :)

Our girls are now 6 mo. old. took for walk passed a field of Peacocks, goats, cows & donkeys, mind you one had her sun visor on. well she gave a warning bark showing how tuff & unafraid she is. Next thing you know cows & donkeys are coming up to the fence to check things out. My daughter says "oh mom look @ the donkey with the dark markings on her face I like that one best," I told her the donkeys are probably looking @the pups and saying "oh look at the one with the hat on I think that one is the cutest" My daughter got a good laugh a that thought. We tried walking away but they kept following us. Iya decided the donkeys were stalking her, there was No Way she was turning her back on them, so my daughter had to pick her up & carry her.

ROMBA: Been there done that with the pit bull. Scared the bejesus out of me as well as I was on roller blades with my two. The dog came bolting out of this open gate in the fenced in park area where this guy was hanging out with his kids/pit bull. Terrified me to death. My dogs were strangely VERY calm about the whole thing. I guess they are just confident??? or just plain oblivious???
From what I've heard trying to run away is BAD as it will only encourage their prey drive to run you down. You also don't want to challenge the dog by trying to "stare it down". If anything be prepared to do whatever you have to to keep the dog away (punch/kick/etc) if it comes to that. Also carry bear mace or something to that effect, though I've heard sometimes this has no effect because of the adrenaline rushing through the dog. It's a touchy/scary spot to be in.

My dogs run our backyard which is an acre so I have neglected taking them. They do love to go though. I live outside the city and when I first moved here we encountered a pit bull loose which scared the **** out of me. Have any of you had a experience like that and what do you do if you come across a dog like that?

My husband and I take Taki out at least once a day for about 1/2 hour. She gets very vocal if she hasn't had her walk and there have been times when one of us has been out walking her at midnight because she was going to drive us into the funny farm. Today her and I went on about an hour walk around the lake. She loved it and she tried to jump in the lake and get those pesky fish.

Saturday and Sunday I got Alaska and Chopper out for 2 hour walks. we got some miles behind us! BUT as soon as we get home the dogs need to chase each other and bark! I have no idea what it's about.

it's so funny that you guys were talking about husky's running, but you said yours stays put while camping...last weekend we were camping and Buddy got loose! He never left the campground! There were, however, stories from early-morning fishermen of a husky chasing raccoons on the shore of the river!! Needless to say, Buddy slept the entire next day!!

I walked Bodie for 1h15m today along the canal. DH takes him during the week for 30m in the am and 30m in the pm. I take him for a long walk on the weekends. We're lucky that we live in "Trail Town USA" and there are a lot of walking trails all over the place as well as the Erie Canal. Today we got stopped by some tourists from Ohio that took a billion pictures of Bodie. He's a total ham.

Yes..Voila...Poof...Gone.... I googled huskies and it was interesting to read the traits they have like 1. don't let them offline etc because they will run! Yep,yep, yep!(except at camp or if I have his throw toy, his eyes don't come off his toy)

I'm very lucky to have a dog who isn't destructive. He can sleep all day while I'm at work and then all night while I sleep. He's very laid back. Because we sometimes get bears in our area(like last night) I tend to take him with me when I walk, but I prefer not to because I sometimes just want to walk and not have to have the dog. We do exercise him, he loves to swim so on the w/e I usually take him down the hill from us to the public boat launch and let him swim. We just came back from camp where he had 5 days of freedom, for some reason at camp he does not leave our cabin area, he knows his boundaries and never leaves them but bring him home and let him off the line and Voila, Gone in .o6 seconds! At camp we can leave him untied and go off the property fishing etc and he doesen't wander past his boundary (he doesen't go past a certain point in the drive) He's very well trained at camp.
My huskycross can go for long walks I can go over an hour and he is still trotting to go and pulling on the lead.
I use a prong collar on him otherwise he's like a lead dog and pulls me along so this way I have some control.

I try to get the dogs out on a walk at LEAST an hour a day. I have 3 high energy, indoor dogs so if they aren't walked they drive us INSANE! Alaska always makes my walks interesting. I walk along city streets because I walk at 4:30 in the morning and I don't want to be unseen from the road in case something happens... Anyway back to Alaska, she LOVES to pick things up and carry them for awhile. At first it was only things that were white. Then it turned into whatever makes me laugh (I swear she does it on purpose) the other day she found an umbrella that was partially open. She pranced with it for about 3 blocks, I was laughing my butt off!! Then the next day she is just walking with her head held high (which mean she has a "treasure") she had found a whole banana!! That she carried about a mile!! She never chews or swallows her "finds" but she loves to just have something in her mouth!!
If you believe in yourself you can achieve anything!

I watch Cesar Millan too and have been trying to take Bear for a walk daily, even if it's down our driveway and back. We took him to the Gettysburg Battlefield to walk yesterday and he loves it there!
I would love to have a treadmill for Bear (and me!) for days when I don't have time or the weather is bad.

We take Stella for a minimum of 4 km each day. My fiance will take her longer on days he's not at the gym. I'm waiting for all the snow to melt (fingers crossed that will be within the next three months!) so that I can start my trail running and outside marathon training with Stella. She loves the snow so much, but it is very slow going for me!
I'm trying really hard to incorporate Stella on my workouts... I wish there was a doggie friendly gym or gym class in the winter I could take her too. Ceaser the Dog Whisperer says that walking on the treadmill helps with their concentration. And I can't afford a treadmill for myself, let alone Stella too. Buisness idea perhaps? Any takers?! ;)

Hmm, maybe I should keep something like that in mind as a future investment. I've heard of them and we don't really have anything around here. We have a nice pet resort for boarding multiple days, but nothing for just during the day.

I love doggy daycare and it makes perfect sense. We actually have 3 in our town. I wish I had thought of that and had the $ to invest. I only take Nuk 3 days a week but there are some owners that bring the dogs 5 days a week and have multiple dogs. Every day they have 50-70 dogs there and they get to run around this huge building and they have several acres of land so the dogs can go in and out at will. Nuk loves it!!!! He gets so excited on the drive there. It is such a great service and quite the money maker. They also offer boarding, grooming, birthday parties, and gourmet dog food and treats.

Nuk and I take a 20-30 minute walk every morning and usually another 30 minute walk in the evening. 3 days a week he goes to doggy daycare so on those days, he is pretty worn out when he gets home. That evening walk may be shorter. Then 2-3 times a week we go to the dog park for 1-2 hours of running play. Depending on who else shows up, he gets to run/chase/jump for quite a while. I'm trying to get my local park district to put up a shelter in the dog park so more people will come out during the winter. This past weekend was the first real cold days and only 2 others came to the dog park on Sunday.
Over the past month since I have had Nuk, I've lost 10 lbs just from the extra walking. I love it!!

Gypsy takes me out for 20 minutes in the morning on her harness, then in the afternoon she has a run for 45-60 minutes at the off lead dog park, and on the weekends she goes window shopping with me for anywhere between 1-2 hours

I only got in about 20 minutes in last night. by the time we got the state park it was getting dark! She guilted me into jogging. she wanted to run so bad. Gonna see if we can try again today if I get home before dark!

Nice job on walking your pups. I am a bad mommy, I need to find a more dog friendly area to take them. but unfortunately I just havent been out to look and with gas prices the way they are, its hard to want to go back out there after we get home.

Walked my girl (and hubby) for 30 minutes this morning - YAY! :) She just loves it when the whole family are together like that.

Last night I walked Holly 3 miles despite the threatening clouds that almost made me turn around 3 times! She needed it, she got neglected this weekend...And today, I took my new runners out for a spin with Holly in tow. I know it's in the high 70s and she wears a fur coat, but she is really dragging behind when we run this year. Last year she was never so slow. She's supposed to be able to pull a sled in the Iditarod!

I posted in the play-time thread about Korena's big weekend.
I DID walk her for about 15 minutes this morning, and I'll probably get more time in this evening (after work). :)

I shamefully walked 2 miles yesterday, but not with my pup...it was raining so my walking was at work. :(
I'm thankful for this thread though - it'll help keep me motivated to get her out there more. :)

Good topic to keep us all motivated! I usually get Holly out at least once a day for at least a mile, usually 3. She doesn't love running with me in the heat, though, so I go out running and then I don't feel like taking her for a walk! I'm such a bad doggie mommy...

On an average 3 times a week (an hour each time for Tu and Shadow) a half hour to 40 min for Kasa (she is my 7 year old couch potato and her little pads of her feet get sore and she limps if i keep her out any longer than that. On weekends-my husband and I take them all three out together and spend at least an hour with them.....That is when I do some jogging with Shadow and some all out running with Tu...If I dont take them at a faster pace than Kasa to wear them out a little it is not a pleasant walk for any of the 5 of us so if i can run them fairly hard-they will walk at a nice pace for the rest of the time we are out...............Sounds like I walk them a lot but a year ago i had so much energy I walked them for any hour each pretty much every evening when the sun went down!
THE PHOENIX by R. Wiles "Beautiful, glorious and sacrificing self for renewal, you build a pyre and set yourself ablaze. Bird of fire you come forth through your ashes a new bird shedding the old self which no longer is needful. You embrace your new strength and fly to the heights of the sky and give the ashes unto the alter of the sun god for your immortality. Embrace yourself for you are a child of the sun and will live eternal through birth, death, and renewal! The spirit never dies!

None so far today, but I'll take her out again this evening (after work). Usually between 45 min and an hour a day.

Ok team here is your chance to post how often you walk those precious furbabies. Maybe this will make me feel guilty enough to get my girls out more. LOL
