I showed up for work this morning, excited for our annual Spring Fling breakfast. I was expecting to see bread, sure - but I thought there would be eggs and fruit - but when I showed up, there was not a non-wheat option in sight (except some string cheese).

Bagels, pastries, muffins, cookies, brownies, coffee cake, donuts - it was a nightmare. TONS of leftovers are now sitting in the breakroom. I don't know how they expect anybody to get any work done when they are in a sugar crash.

The funny thing is that they also had a call out last week here at work to form a Health and Wellness committee - and that committee is meeting at 2:00. I'm going to join and ask that maybe they sponsor a healthier breakfast next time.

Putting "healthy" grains on trial to see if there's any merit to the claims against them. Hoping to beat anxiety, binge eating disorder, and more. Follow me here:

I *AM* stronger than a bagel.

I always have GF choices around me. I make sure I have things in the car for going into restaurants (like wheat-free tamari for thai choices) and have a stash of things for luncheons at work. That really saves me more often than not.

My friends and family are now accustomed to me not eating when they are. If eating at a friend's place or a get together where it is possible, I bring my own food. Between my many allergies and gluten issue, it's not worth it to eat wrong. I spend the time the others are eating being social and drinking hot tea or water.

My husband's uncle didn't believe that I couldn't eat all this stuff. He would say "How can she be so fat and not eat this stuff when we aren't watching?" Jerk - I used to eat too much of the substitutes and that was why I gained so much weight. I finally realized that I had plenty of good stuff to eat and didn't have to make up for what I wasn't really missing.

it's challenging to have to eat different than the majority of society, but it's worth it because i feel so much better. i just have to keep reminding myself of all the benefits. emoticon

I rarely go out to eat and don't like to eat in social situations. I find it hard enough just staying gluten free in a house full of people eating gluten...

Even with the fact that my friends know my restrictions, I have one or two people who don't think my problem is real. I no longer eat things made "just for me" but these people because they sneak things in to try to "prove me wrong" because they don't suffer the same issues.

I have posted this on another board, but there is a gluten free bakery in Roanoke, Indiana called "Good Grains", her (Melissa Paul") hours are limited so call ahead before going 260-710-1495. She has great items which include gluten free breads and pizza crust. She has another lady with her who bakes sweets such as cakes etc also all gluten free.

I am just now seeing this forum. My own lack of self control makes it difficult. I do pretty good 99% of the time, but when I go somewhere and they have something I might taste it. I am the only one GF in my household. With only my DH here now he has adjusted to eating a lot of the GF meals that I now fix and doesn't mind them.

It is tough with gluten items in the house. I have a separate cupboard with my food. My husband and kids aren't GF and it's too expensive to have them eat GF as well. Plus, I can opt for something healthier when they waffles for dinner, which keeps me on track with my diet.

We have mostly gluten-free foods in the house as well. We use only gluten-free flours for baking, gluten-free oats and other foods we all use. My family does have wheat bread but I would starve first..lol.

That sound like a great solution! My husband and I have done the same thing. I'm GF and he isn't. It's much easier to have all GF stuff than to have my stuff and his. Plus, I don't have to worry about accidentally ingesting gluten. It happened twice. Not fun!

If I do not keep vegies cut up or nuts or good snacks I can grab the wrong thing but I have learned the best thing that if it is not gluten-free it can not be in the house!
