This is what we have so far. :) I have 1 1/2 more rows to do then I'll be caught up again and I'll post it on my spark page. This will make it easier for you, so you can copy and paste it all in one place and print it off. So jump in and add your favorite stitch row and make sure it adds up to 170 across. :)
Row 1). Chain 171, sc in second chain from the hook and across. ( 170 sc) BEEJAY49 ********************* Row 2.) Turn. Chain 3 and double crochet across to the end. Work 1 sc, 1 dc across ending in a 1 sc in top of turning ch. FIREDEMONARTY ************************** Rows 16 & 17) two rows of snowflake stitch.
If you don't know how to do this stitch, it's a little strange at first, but still fun to do. This was the very first crochet stitch I ever learned.
Turning leg: Pull up 1/2 inch loop, YO, insert hook back into last stitch of previous row, pull up 1/2 inch loop, (3 loops on hook), YO, hold back loop on hook, draw through all 3 loops, insert hook in held back loop, YO, draw through both loops on hook, ch 1, (eyelet formed).
Just a note about forming the eyelet: Sometimes it is hard to get the hook through that many loops without it getting caught on some of the others, or dropping off. What you have to do is before you add the last loop, grab hold of the yarn at the bottom of the stitch with your thumb and firat finger, then yarn over. Hold on to the last loop and sometimes you have to wiggle the hook until get the hook through all of the loops. Just keep the tension fairly tight on that part so the only loop left on the hook when you get through is the last one ( the other end of the one you're holding). Then to close the eyelet, put the hook through where your thumb and first finger are holding the loop, yarn over and pull it through. Then chain 1.
*Pull up 1/2 inch loop, YO, insert hook back into eyelet just formed, pull up 1/2 inch loop, (3 loops on hook), YO, insert hook and draw up 1/2 inch loop in last stitch of previous row, (5 loops on hook), YO, skip next stitch insert hook and draw up loop on hook in the next stitch, (7 loops on hook), YO, hold back loop on hook, draw through all 7 loops, insert hook in held back loop, YO, draw through both loops on hook, ch 1, (eyelet formed).* Repeat between * * across row.
Work another turning leg, turn, then repeat between * * across. Now you can actually see the snowflakes.
To return to sc, work one sc in eyelet then one in leg of snowflake across. (You only need to catch 2-3 strands of the yarn, not the entire leg.)
If this is hard to understand, I'll make a video on Sunday and post it. I just have to get someone to hold the camera for me.
I finally got the video made and posted. I didn't know how to post it any other way, so I did it as a video blog. You can find it on my sparkpage. I hope it helps!
