Just continue to do what I've been doing. Wear my brace, take Ibuprofin 3 pills 3X day, elevation, rest, no deep flexion, and check up in 2 weeks. It's healing well on it's own. Wasn't so bad that they need to do surgery. I have made it every day this week for 60 min water aerobics! Or was it 2X on Monday and not Tuesday? I can't remember, but it equals out. I am doing deep water in the AM, and then taking a break on Sunday. My whole body hurts...daily!

I knew I would have to have my knee replaced two years ago when they replaced my right one. I had the worst one done first. I just remember how much it hurt but right now it hurts all the time. I can't even do my pilates or tai chi right now because of my knee. We will see what the doc says on Tuesday.

Liz, Better to get it fixed ASAP than to suffer. I had my TKR less than 1 year after my symptoms began and had an excellent result. It doesn't pay to fool around. Makes the recovery harder.

They encouraged me to take short walks. We might be defining that differently, but I am off my feet a LOT more than I'd like. Seriously - I want to run around the city, and I'm not doing nearly as much as I usually do.

No one ever mentioned anything about bleeding. I was kind of grossed out when I saw it. It's blood, plain and simple. I was given extra bandages to change it periodically. The plaster is waterproof, so I just wait until it comes off in its own time and then change it.

I have been taking taxis more and trying to sit and rest more. It's hard because London is just such a walking city. *sigh*

great workout Jackie!!!

Cat..did they tell you breakthrough bleeding is ok? is this still dressed or have they taken the big bandages off? and is it pink or bright red?
sounds like you are overdoing...unless you just took the dressing off and it disturbed the wound.
all docs have their own ways..both of mine were adamant about NOT removing the thick padded dressing for 3 days. when i did the first time it leaked sybovial fluid and scared me pretty bad!! but it was ok.....

Well done, JACKIE! emoticon

The theory on pain management is different in the UK, even going private. Here, the idea is that pain exists for a purpose, and negating it permits overuse before full recovery. I'm icked out by the breakthrough bleeding and annoyed by the constant low-level "complaining". Ah well. Maybe better tonight.

Cat be really careful with the Co-dydramol--do not take more than they tell you.
the voltarol is more of an anti-inflammatory for mild pain.
Would they give you something stronger just for night time? with what you had done it seems like they might consent.
Probably why the US has such a drug problem...the theory in the hospitals is "noone should be in pain"
But I tend to agree with that---especially if the pain is preventing sleep.

I'm taking co-dydramal and voltarol, plus an anti-coagulant. It was so bad last night that I had trouble sleeping. I guess I'm overdoing. London is not a disabled friendly city.

Thanks, Holly! I'm paying for my folly today, though. I stayed in the hotel until 3 p.m. and only went out for 7 hours. I attended a chamber choir performance this evening, and my knee throbbed through most if it. Ah well. At least it was mainly just the one.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Crunchy, huh? My surgeon said my cunchies are because of fissures in my knee cap. It's not possible to fix them, so it's crunchies until it's time to replace them.

My knees always seem to make horrible crunching sounds when I bend them. They haven't been giving me much trouble lately but I haven't run at lunchtime since Monday. Will be walking 2 miles from London Bridge to my office Monday morning - weather permitting - and if I enjoy it it may become a regular thing. Love doing Leslie Sansone workouts too - must keep the knees supple!

Thanks guys! I know it's only 10% of what I was doing earlier - but I did most of it sans canes or crutches, so I am chuffed. This evening, I rewarded myself with a taxi ride (cost almost as much as the concert tix!) to St. Martin-in-the-Field in Trafalger Square to see an ensemble perform classical music by candlelight. The knee hurt, but the ears were delighted! emoticon

I walked 19000+ steps with canes on Wednesday. I've managed barely 1600 today. Ah well. I'll get back to where I was - and beyond!

I hope this weekend brings relief for ALL our knees!

Pretty well. I had the left one injected on Friday. I hurt it doing the SP Bootcamp video. No squats for this old girl The doc did tell me, however, I probably will nver have to have it replaced. Good news.
