I have a hard time finding time to go on this site,I can't imagine having 2! emoticon
I hear you for grazing eating. It's so hard to break old patterns.
Go for a walk instead? Bring a good book. Put a bracelet/elastic on your arm and snap it when you feel like eating when it's not mealtime(some say it works getting your mind off food!).
Good luck and have fun! emoticon

Lise, I belong to this site and to MyFitnessPal, which I am much more dedicated to than SP. I guess b/c I knew of and began using MFP before I ever even knew SP existed. Tracking and posting on two different sites can be too time consuming, as you are well aware...

I am trying to prepare myself for the Memorial Day weekend. I am going to my sisters 2nd home on the bay in Avalon, NJ. She always has glutinous amounts of food, most of them my favorite temptations. Getting a little anxious, not about the actual picnic on Monday, but the time in between when the food is just there and I am just here with more downtime than I am used to. My old patters were to just walk into her, open and centrally located, kitchen and just pick and graze and mindlessly eat all day... The easy part is to say NO when others are watching, the hard part is when no one is there but me and the food!

I did a lot of deep thinking over my issue. I had a moment of clarity and with each passing day I am feeling less depressed and more logical and rational. Sometimes emotions are so irrational and it takes time for the brain to catch up to those impulsive emotions.
Of course, I am not an emotional eater when it comes to my feeling depressed and down, but STRESS makes me run to the pint of ice cream or bag of salty chips faster than you can imagine!
I managed to maintain my healthy eating, for the most part and still maintained my workout schedule.
Took off from the gym completely Wednesday, as it is my normal day off due to my work schedule.
Bought a thing of cherry frozen yogurt with chocolate fudge chips, while at the store getting my fruit for tomorrows breakfast. Had one serving of frozen yogurt and really wanting more. Atleast I didn't buy Ben and Jerry's equivalent (cherry Garcia) which has over 100 calories more per serving than the yogurt I got which has only 130 calories/serving.
Glad everyone seemed to have a good day!

Hello Lise---Dawn, I'm sorry you are having a difficult time. Lise gave good advice, at least I think so. Surely, this will pass in a short time. You were great to do get done what you did. Keep on working hard and never quit. Cheryl

Do take a break before you just break down.
I hadn't been to zumba for 2 weeks (it just happened that way) and I had loads of energy tonight!
I also have been going to bed earlier and I find that is helping me manage my food.
Give yourself a break and love yourself. We are only human!

Pretty depressed today, emotionally drained and caught off guard by the emotions I'm experiencing! I am a stress eater, but when I'm depressed, my hunger is also depressed.... Not much of an appetite but trying to make myself eat. Mustered up the mental fight to get into the gym tonight despite being so emotional I had a hard time holding back my tears and felt like throwing up... I made it through my spin class but just didn't feel like sticking around to do the ab work I planned to do... Trying to give myself a break and say its ok. I havent taken a day off from working out since two weeks ago, Wednesday. I need to get a grip on my emotions.

For today only - I have not binged, wrote everything I ate and probably stayed within my calorie range.
Plus, in 10 minutes I am leaving to go to a Zumba class-I haven't gone in 2 weeks and I hope i still remember the moves!!
I was able to not binge/emotionally eat today so i would say i am doing all-right! emoticon

Hi Cheryl, thanks for asking how I'm doing. Tonight I'm a little emotionally down after getting some sort of unexpected news... But as far as fitness goes, making progress with my exercise but the only movement on the scale has been up. emoticon .
Went from 146.8 to 148 as of this mornings weigh in. I suspect it's my sleeping... I have had some lousy habits lately with that. it could be water. I know it's not my diet, been eating pretty good and within my calorie limit. I may also be overtraining. I haven't taken a day off from working out in about 10 days and pushing myself hard.
How are you? When is your next weigh in? I'm looking forward to hearing how you're progressing...

Thank you all for your support. I understand that the scale is not the only way to tell how you are doing. My cousin gave me a purple striped shirt that is a lot cotton. When I got it, it fit snugly all the way down on my hips. It wasn't dried, but still shrank being washed in cold water. I stood up today and it was hanging out away from my hips by quite a bit almost all the way around. I told Sharon that maybe there is hope for me yet. WAY TO GO CHERYL!!!! fantastic loss. That's an average of nearly 4 pounds/week which is almost double what the "experts" recommend loosing each week.

Don't worry if your next loss isn't as much. Remember, it is taking small steps everyday for a healthier you, for the rest of your life- not just until your next weigh in!

A number on the scale is only one, very limited way, to determine your health. How you feel, how your clothes fit, if you can touch your shins, if you can move with less or without any pain and overall how you feel are much better indicators of your health on a daily basis. The number on the scale is just a gage!

Keep up the healthy eating and positive attitude....

Hi, I have happy news for you two. They weighed us at 3 weeks instead of four. I was very surprised to find out I had lost 11 lbs. I've been eating always at least 1450 cal. every day. Often it is around 1500 cal. I can't expect that much probably ever again, but it gave me a lot of encouragement-almost as much encouragement as you both have given me. Thank you, very much. Cheryl

Cheryl, keep up the positive attitude. Whether or not you're loosing weight is a small matter in comparison to how you feel and your physical abilities. For many adults, it's oftentimes too easy to blame our excess weight on our limitations, when it's really our minds!

Sparklise, great work in Zumba. I ae never taken that class, I have two left feet and with the amount of people in the class I am bound to hurt someone! I stick to more rote skills such as spinning... Haven't fallen off my bike in their, yet. emoticon

So far it is a good day for food for me, but it's only 8:00 pm. We have to keep trying, don't we? I leaned over my tummy and put both hands behind my calves. It's hard enough because of the arthritis, but surely I have lost a little to be able to do that. I don't weigh until about May 7. I will let you know then if I have lost any. emoticon

I have been very busy and stressed and when I get home I just want to sit and eat chips even if I KNOW what I need is go to bed.
Same here. I want it!!!!!!
I am tired and discouraged right now.
Discouraged at myself because I know better and tired because I eat too much before going to bed and I just go to bed too late. emoticon

Cheryl, thanks for the gold star but I don't feel I deserve it right now... I fear I am in a binge mode right now. Wednesday nights are SO hard for me. I work a long and stressful day and don't have time to do any exercise, so it is my one day off a week from working out. The problem is, I am used to having dinner at 8:30 but by the time I eat the food I packed to nibble on while at work all day, I only have about 250 calories left to eat at night. The problem is, thats when I do most of my eating during the other nights of the week. So of course I feel famished now, and just walking thru my front door is a Pavolovian response for me. It means CHOW time and I want to devour anything not nailed down... I just finished off a spinach fillo pita pocket, a serving of frozen yogurt and a handful of sunflower seed snacks. I am nearing 400 calories past my alloted 1200 calories today... My normal caloric consumption for the day, when I work out is about 1700. I'm not truly hungry right now but I am compelled to go back for more food... AHHHHHH. I am driving myself mad right now. Rationally I know I need to get out of the house, do something else to decompress, but I'm like that tantruming kid in the grocery store check out line with that candy bar, I WANT IT! ALL OF IT and NOW!!!! HELP'!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't tracked my food for today yet. I am certain that if I don't go over the calorie limit, it will be close. I didn't work on tracking my food first thing this a.m., and I always get in at least a little trouble from that. Congratulations, DAWNEDONU, on being able to wait. I'm really proud of you.

I am so happy with myself. I went out on a dangerous limb and bought the new Ben and Jerry's frozen Greek yogurt. I was worried I might eat the whole thing, but I dished out my serving( I usually eat right out of the container, but this time I did not even nibble from the container before hand) put the container away, ate my serving and was done with it. I did, for a moment, think about picking up my spoon, going into my freezer and pulling out the carton, again, but I had a "talk" with myself about this idea and I realized it was out of habit and bordem, so I told myself I could have another serving tomorrow and I COULD wait and WOULD wait... And I did! And in fact, I haven't even touched it, yet... Yeah me!

Hi CJ, way to go about the sherbet. Know, though, it's ok to have sherbet as long as you incorporate the serving into your daily caloric limits and ration your serving. Be well! Dawn

I am new to this team... And relatively new to Spark. I am not sure I have ever been a true binger, but I have eaten more than I should at one sitting, such as demolishing a pint of Ben & Jerry's in one sitting but I am for sure a snacker and night eater and at times I have been a closet eater...
I am working really working hard on changing my mind to help me change my body. I have lost 30 pounds and excited about that but more excited about what is going on in my head, the changes that are going in there are even more incredible than what is showing on the outside. I have, in no way, totally conquered my issues with food, but I have learned to live with my imperfections and forgive myself and remind myself this way is for the rest of my life, it isn't just a diet, it is a lifestyle and a mindset! There is no turning back....

Hi, This is my 12 day without binging. I had one day I went over my calories, but did not binge. I have to wait until May 7 to weigh. I hope I lose some weight. Hope you have a good day and stay out of the cookie jar. My cousin brought me some new partially cotton clothes. They barely fit the first time I wore them. They shrunk being washed in cold water and not dried. I will be glad when I don't feel so crowded in those clothes.

Hi Sparklise, I'm lonesome some of the time, but not often. I started on April 7. I've never gone over my calorie range and only had one bad day of EATING. I hope we can share. I would like to be your friend if it is OK with you. Let me know. Today is a good day. I had the housekeeper take down a picture because my son (civpro1) objected to its being there. It had pictures of his ex wife and showed him at his heaviest.
Hope I hear from you soon, Cheryl

Hi! I am pretty new to Spark as well. I was happy to find this group too as I am up late at night (it all starts with kids! lol) and I find myself getting very strong cravings around midnight. Otherwise I am good during the day...I was always thin, energetic and fit my whole life until my pregnancies.Weird but apparently common! Anyhow, support is here! Good luck! emoticon

Hello everyone! I am new to spark people and I can't believe I have joined this team! I guess the first step is admitting it, eh? I have been a binge/snacked/night/closet eater my entire life! I was in the best shape of my life when I got married and just before I got pregnant 6 years ago. I can't believe I have been trying to lose the same baby weight for 5 years ( I also had another child in that time). I was 9 lbs short of my goal the summer of 2010. I gained it all back and more because of binge/ closet/ night snacker issue!!!!! I AM SO DONE! I want to be the wife my hubby wants to show off and I NEED TO rock a bikini at the cottage the way I used to! I am looking forward ( and have been inspired) to this journey and the those who understand this powerful struggle!

My weight below is actually lbs...not kg as it is shown!

Hey, I do the same thing, only sometimes without the out of body experience. I'm going to try using EFT and see how I get on. There is plenty of info about it for free on the web. I found one about ending self sabotage. Going to give that a try. Will let you know how it works if you're interested. Hope you find a way to beat this. Hope we all do. Cheers!

My binged eating is so out out control for three days and have gain at leat 8 lbs. since last week. and have been drinking last wed. and for 3 days can't stop eating sweets. I eat everything and any thing. I have been restrict since Jan.2011, I have lost 97 lbs mostly with six weeks body made over, as it is very restrict. foods lover and south beach. I need help now, as I can't stop eating.

Maybe you haven't reached all your goals yet-but who has? And maybe you've made a few mistakes along the way-but who hasn't? You have every reason to feel proud of who you are. Notice your triumphs, big and small. There are so many.

I had a binge yesterday then skipped dinner and went to bed early. I had a venti latte this morning so I'm not exactly starving but I know I should eat and real hunger is right around the corner. I feel scared.
Post binge doesn't feel scary. It doesn't feel happy either but at least I'm soothed and not terrified. Sometimes it feels hopeful; "this is it. this is my last binge." like any addict saying "this is the last time" either right before they get high or right after...
I'm out of control. My challenge right now is to admit that. I have an eating disorder and I am powerless over it.

be grateful.

Great idea Trek! You sound like you're doing well! Keep it up - you're my inspiration at the moment. Will be joining the challenge too. I might try for 7 days to start though….

4 days is excellent Trek! I did not get up to snack/binge last night either. It was one of the first nights in a long, long time for me. I wanted to, but each time I got up - I drank water. I didn't sleep well because I'm used to snacking, but I sure feel great today that I didn't cave.

I am challenging myself to go 14 days at a time (for now) without bingeing at night. To make myself accountable, I posted a Streak on my SparkPage for all the world (and myself) to see DAILY to remind myself I am making this lifestyle change!!

So far I have 4 successful days (=nites!, lol!) on this personal streak which I called

"Don't snack mindlessly in the evening." Would anyone out there like to try it? Let me know--I care! Love to hear from others with this problem!

Hi, Shangoeskinny!

I slipped back into a night eating mode last night where, while it wasn't a huge amount of extra food, it was a series of snacks I didn't need and that I HOPE does not ruin my weigh-in as I am so focused on at least maintaining last week's weight. I was feeling fine then as the night wore on I had my regular small snack to manage blood sugar and couldn't stop every half hour or so wanting to eat. It was clearly related to stress I was feeling, all emotional, but because it was night, I just caved.

I am not really bothered by it as the rest of the week has been good cal wise. I just note it and log all the food in my Fitday PC software and move on. If I dwell on it I will be on edge today trying to eat less than normal and that doesn't work for me.

Have busy day even though not working until Monday, going to be careful to avoid junky carbs and emotional triggers.

Woot! Time for my walk.

I slipped back into a binge last night AND skipped my workout. I feel horrible about it but the first thing I am doing this AM is going for a run and then going to talk to my therapist. Obviously its not rock bottom but it sucks to have a down point when you had a good couple days.

Congratulations on the successes on this thread.

I may join you in October if you do another one. I'm not really bingeing exactly right now. It is more just night eating beyond the one protein heavy snack I find best to eat late night or early in the morning. Not sure if that would fit this challenge exactly.

Hey all, I started Spark People just yesterday and if it's one thing I need to stop its binge eating at night. I am going to go an entire month without binge eating, and hopefully I'll be able to avoid binge eating after this month is up. I didn't last night and I feel great! Wish me luck!

I am starting right now today. It is 2:36 pm.
I have eaten everything in sight..yes there are crumbs still on my shirt and a kit kat wrapper next to me. My stomach is so full I feel like I am going to explode. I am dog sitting and was given permission to eat whatever I wanted....oh did I ever. I want to start right now today....I have armed myself with a bottle of water and hold on....ok I'm back...i brushed my teeth. I will not binge, compulsive overeat,or whatever we call it. NOW WHAT?

I'd be interested in joining too. I actually followed you over here after seeing you joined in my friend feed. emoticon I didn't know this forum existed til then.

I, too, have recently started a Sunday sugarfree ice cream binge. So, no that I got that out I will commit to NOT doing that tomorrow. We've worked too hard to go back to old habits. We can do this.
