That is very true. I just came from my doctor and found that my level is 6.9 and they want it to be at least 30, so I am being placed on a heavy dosage of Vitamin D for the next 3 months to get my levels up. I read about all of the reasons that you need Vitamin D and I'm glad they caught this problem before it causes any damage. Please ensure when you get your annual physical and they do your blood work that they test for your Vitamin D.
Thanks for sharing this article, Maya! As you know the endocrinologist suspected that I was vitamin D deficient. I got the results today that I am in need low on D. She also said that over the counter vitamins do not have enough vitamin D in them for some one who is deficient on vitamin D. I have to take a prescription.

For people in the northern regions (Canada, anyone?), we are probably even lower on sun exposure during all the fearsomely cold winter months - you're not very likely to go around exposing bare skin for 10 minutes three times a week when wind chill drags the temperature down to the sub-zero range! :)
