LOL....LANA, I'm very north of Omaha....way up high in Canada...Winnipeg to be exact. We get crazy weather between now and the end of October. Anything can happen, and yes, even snow (but I hope not).

Hi KEEKBEAN, I am glad to hear the yoga and strength training are helping. I may have to give yoga a shot to see if that helps me too. Cold is in it's last throes... cough trying to stay, but I am done with it! LOL. Did pump some iron today and am planning on the 32 min. run tomorrow.

Hey, STORKBYTE, where do you live?! My family's in Omaha and I remember my sister telling me she gets crazy switches in the weather like that too! I think that drastic of a weather change would make me even crazier than I am! LOL

Have a great week everyone. I am back to reality tomorrow (wisely took an extra day off of work so have to face only a 4-day work week ;o)

Hey Lana! I'm sorry to hear you were sick on your trip! You're right it's all the hours I spend at a computer that's goofing up my back. The yoga and strength training did really help though!

Welcome back to the world of running. Is your cold gone yet?

LANA, it sure is a bummer to get sick when on vacation. Talk about extremes in temperatures! Today, after more than a week of absolutely frigid late summer weather we hit a beautiful high of 83f. It was beautiful, hot and sunny. Tomorrow will be cooler, only in the low 70's but I'll take it. I'll have to run tomorrow as on Tuesday I'm off to a lakeside resort north of where I live for a union conference. Three days! I'm not sure what I'll do about my running though. Our days will be filled with sessions and I'm not sure about running. It's a small town and could very well do it. I'll run tomorrow morning when I get home from work. That will be W1D3 for me and then if I don't run until Thursday evening, that's okay too.

Anything is possible--except skiing through a revolving door.

Hi everyone, sounds like you're all making progress! We are finally back from vacation and I am so bummed to say I was not able to test out my new running skills in Balboa Park, San Diego. I caught a really BAD chest cold so running was out of the question! Even walking through the park wore me out. :o( Anywho, so happy to be back in the game. Restarting week 5 (hopefully) of the OHR program -- eked out a 30 minute run today and it wasn't even my slowest :o). Just felt good to be running again, for sure.

Notedefeated -- you're wise to go easy while you have the cold. I was OK running when it was a regular cold, but once it went to my chest, I was down for the count. I think I got way too cold on the 5 hr. plane ride. Take care of yourself!

Keek, did your yoga seem to help with the inflammation? I get cramps near my shoulder blades when I am working too much -- time on the computer really does a number and DH has to massage out the knots. I hope you're going better!

Storkbyte -- I've been really enjoying the OHR program -- I'm like you -- I like the structure and being able to check something off the "list" toward that end goal. Wow, 46F is cold! I am definitely a tropical girl now, but yes, will also need to break out the long running clothes.

Good to be back -- missed everyone!

Hi there.
I finished C25K 2 weeks ago and since then have had difficulty going out and running as I have not structure and no end goal. That's my theory anyway for my lack of motivation to run even though I usually enjoy it. I printed out the OHR program and think I'll give it a try. For two weeks I have been trying to run 5k but don't always feel like I have the stamina to do it. Today, I simply ran 31 mins. I know it's supposed to be 30...guess I need to get over that. LOL. The temperatures have changed drastically (not that we had the greatest summer here) and this morning the house was so cold I turned the furnace on. Yup. I can't remember the last time I fired it up this early. When I went out for my run it was only 8c (46f). Now I need to invest in cool/cold weather running clothes.

Anything is possible--except skiing through a revolving door.

Hey wdchase. :)

Lana...how're the runs going?

I just finished a race and am recovering from a cold, so I'm going to continue running this week, but probably do an easy 2 miles each time I head out...at least until this cold is done with me.

It sucks bad that you're injured. Being injured is so demotivating! I have every confidence that you'll be able to do this half marathon with me if you take it easy and try to heal. If we have to walk half of it, we'll walk!!! We're in this together, you'll be AMAZING as always :D

Well at least I've narrowed down the cause of the pain. They are inflamation pockets over my shoulder blades that I don't seem to be doing the right stretches to release the fluid. I'm going to do yoga tonight and hopefully that'll stretch it all out. I promised my half marathon training partner that I wouldn't run until next week. I wonder how much that is going to set me back.

I actually ended up not walking yesterday or running this morning. I'm sick. :( and trying to not get sicker before the race.

It really didn't go well. See my post in the C25K forum. I'm stuck and a little scared now that the pain is flaring back up.

Keekbean, you can totally do it! Good call to give yourself a bit more sleep before attempting a long run. :)

I'm taking it easy this week...I'm running a 5K on Saturday and don't want to wear myself out. I think this afternoon I'll take my puppy for a walk, and then tomorrow morning, I'll run three miles, but not worry about pushing it for time.

I hate doing my run AFTER work. I'm so beat from a long day it always winds up kicking my butt more. Too bad I got in from my trip too late last night so there was no way I was running on three hours of sleep. Wish me luck...I'm gonna need encouragement for this one.

Don't you love those days where running is effortless? Today was one of those days where I felt I could go on and on. It was awesome and a wonderful reminder why I started the C25K to begin with! Now if I could figure out how to get to this point on the days where I feel like I am moving through peanut butter! LOL

Have a great day everyone!

Week 5 day one under my belt. 30 minutes was just right for me today! We spent yesterday all over the place and got a lot of walking in, too. Headed out to the beach now, hope everyone is enjoying your 3-day weekend!! ALOHA!

OK, after my scare yesterday (long story, see my blog if you really want to know ;o) finally got my "long run" in this week. A full 35 minutes! It felt so good to do something different--even if it was only different mentally. I feel strong and healthy!!

Noei, that's awesome! Now I will be looking to you for leadership. My long run is nowhere near an hour, YET, but I'll be right behind you! ;o)

Hey Rhonda...the 2 short runs and 1 long run is exactly what the program I'm following does. I do one long run on Saturdays or Sundays, and then a 3 mile run on Tuesdays and a 2 mile run on Thursdays. So your makeshift schedule is actually quite perfect! :)

Hi Lana,
Just want to tell you that you inspired me to go for this One Hour Runner deal..
Thanks to you, I can now run for an hour...(still slow - over 13 min./mile) but such an accomplishment! I started my program almost 4 weeks ago, worked on my endurance first and now I'll focus on my speed. I may not be able to run faster than 13/mile but I'll take it!

Good luck on your goals and good running!

I wasn't following a program but once I made it to 30 min I started doing 2 short runs and 1 long run a week much like they say. For the short runs sometimes I jog a mile and then alternate sprinting and walking between mailboxes (or go to the track and sprint the straights and jog or walk the curves). something to really get the heart pumping. then for my long run I add a bit each week - which seems to be made easier by the other shorter runs. who knows - could be in my head - lol

Hey! I just did a google search for Hal Higdon, 10K, and that's how I found it. So far I'm up to running 40 minutes, but will be running 45 minutes on Saturday.

NOTDEFEATED, where can I find more info on the Hal Higdon's 10K training? Thanks!

Awesome job! I'm a C25K grad, too. I gave myself a week "off" after I graduated, and then started with Hal Higdon's 10K training. A 10K is 6.2, and I run about 10 mins a mile, so I suppose I'm kind of training to run an hour, too. :)

I'm looking for support anywhere I can get it, so I'll pop in here, too!

OK, finished the 4 mile fun run in 48:44 so just over a 12 min. mile -- that counts a potty break at 1/2-way through and I jogged/walked on the way back. It was HOT, but mostly, I let my brain get in the way! Anyway, had a great time and will definitely be out there next time with the OHR training ;o)

Well, tomorrow is supposed to be week 4 day 1 of my OHR program -- 30 min. run, but got talked into signing up for a 4 mile fun run, so I am going to go for it! Got some good advice to stick with my usual pace or a bit slower and pay attention to my body so I don't get injured. My goal is just to run the entire way--will let you know how it goes!

Hi girls. I am running 3-4 days a week and I do turbo kickboxing and weights on T/TH It is working well for me and I get Sunday Off and sometimes Friday. I need a schedule or I will lose it! I just added weights a few weeks ago, but I have noticed I have dropped some weight already as a result.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Mayapapaya, I actually am enjoying lifting, too. I am seeing some nice definition in my shoulders and triceps and like i mentioned, my knees are staying strong for the running. If you go easy and listen to your body as you add another day running, hopefully you'll be fine.

I know what you mean about the strength training. Whenever I get busy or stressed, that's the first thing I start to skip. I think it's because I don't get the mood lift from stregth training that I get from running. Right now I'm lucky to get in one strength session per week.
I ran just over three miles today (it was really hot outside), and it felt great. I'm thinking to try for the fourth day tomorow, but I'm gonna wait and see how my knees feel in the morning.

It's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do.

Yeah, sticking to running only 3 days a week because it seems to work well for my knees and ankles. I did a number to them both in college.

I weight train for an hour on alternating days (again especially for the knees) and have Saturday off. I know what you mean about messing with routine. I played a bit of hookey with my weight training (life called) and am out of sorts right now. Might have to try to squeeze it in after work.

Lana, are you still running only 3 days a week? It's hard for me to stick to a groove on only three days. I'm thinking of joining a gym so I can use the eliptical or something, because the days off from running are messing with my routine. What do you do on running "off" days?

It's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do.

Thanks APRILDEE and MAYAPAPAYA, for your positive thoughts. This week has been a little bit tough. The runs are still 30 min, but no wind in my sails. emoticon

Still, it feels good to be out there, MAYAPAPAYA! I'll be glad to have some company on this ride. Made it the full 30 minutes today with a little help from "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister and "Blaze of Glory" by Jon Bon Jovi! emoticon

I graduated c25k 2 weeks ago and kinda slacked off with running after that, but I'd deffinitely like to get back into it. I am familiar with the one hour runner program, and it sounds cool. Thanks for all your enthusiasm lana, it's motivated me to go for a run today!

It's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do.

Oh maaan, tough out there today! We figured out later I was on a record pace for the first mile and just ran out of juice coming up the hill. LOL -- felt like someone just pulled the plug. Anywho, alternated jogging, walking and running for the remainder -- just could not find my pace after that. I'm glad it's done and I can log in some exercise today. Have a sore throat so may be fighting off a summer bug. Hopefully I won't get sick! (fingers crossed!!!)

Ooooh, it was GORGEOUS out there this morning! Not much else to report since the plan calls to hold steady at 30 minutes for two more weeks.

Still enjoying the running! Managed to get a run in Tuesday before the threat of Flossie came bearing down. Fortunately, she didn't give us much to deal with thereafter... she downgraded to a level 1 hurricane and then tropical storm. We got a little rain today so it's HUMID tonight! Hoping for the clouds to lift for tomorrow morning's run.

Being that I did most of my c25k on the treadmill I have moved on to the road and had to take a few steps back. Once I get back up to the 30 minute runs again I will go forward with this program as it looks like a fabulous one!!

Me again. I am just so excited to have a plan to follow with a structure similar to C25K where I see progress everytime I get my butt out there emoticon Seriously, though, today's run was awesome!! The hill was not quite as tough and near the end I was telling myself "I OWN this hill!" Even though the program says to cap my runs at 30 min. for the first three weeks following c25k, I did run for 33 minutes and then jog/walked for another 4 minutes for a total of 37 minutes. It's feels amazing!

Well, since the first three weeks of the One Hour Runner program is staying at 30 minute runs, there is not a lot of excitment, huh? We did take a different route (oh yeah, hubby's running with me now! :o) on Tuesday and it was gorgeous. I huffed and puffed my way up a long hill (a la little engine that could) and watched the sun come up. We clocked it at 2.6 miles so even with the big hill, slightly improving the pace and even "cheated" by running an extra 3 minutes :o) Looking forward to getting out there tomorrow.

Where's the rest of the recent C25K grads? What are you doing to keep up your runs?

Hi Lana, congrats on finishing the C25K!! I've looked at the website and can't find the One Hour Runner program, can you post a link? I'd be very interested in checking it out!

Thanks.

I am a very recent C25K grad and have decided to move foward with coolrunning's One Hour Runner program. Anyone else doing this one? Looking for a parnter or mentor!
