Well, I bit the bullet. I have officially setup 16 weeks of 8K training on yesterday. 2 miles in 24:00 with lots of gas left in the tank. My tempo and long runs are on Wed (5 miles - 1 @12:00, 3 @ 10:26, & 1 @ 12:00) and Sat (8 miles @ 12:00 pace) to complete the week. I've never gone this far but anxious to find out what I am made of. It's a competition with myself. There's no prepping for a race. Every now and again, I just might try a 5K along the way (I haven't run that one either, but consistently churning a 30 min time). Possibly stepping up to a 10K or half in the future.

That's great! Funny how you can run faster on a race day, huh?

I did so much better than I had hoped on my Philly 8K!

I was hoping for 60:00 (12 min. pace).
Figured that I'd never be able to do 55:00 (11 min pace).
But I ran it in 52:14, a 10:27 split!!!!!

Today is the EXPO for the race pack pick up in Philly. The 8K is the day before the marathon. Lots of marathoners here in my hotel. I feel like such a baby runner compared to them! LOL

Quick update... I went with the Hal Higdon 10K Novice as the C25K program never quite worked for me, I had a hard time starting and stopping again.
Anyways, I'm happy to say I'm up to 5 miles which is where I need to be for my 8K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.
I ran the 5 miles this past weekend and am planning on only smaller 2 mile runs until race day.
After that I plan on finishing the Hal Higdon training so I can get to the 10K distance.
And then, I will probably stay in that range at least until I feel really comfortable with it.
Anyways, Thanks for all the advice.

Me too! I started the C25K twice and had to stop due to life. Then I had a goal and the C25K was part of the goal coming true and I started full time beginning of July.

Time and weather has been shorting my runs lately...grrr

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into both those suggestions.
I have been trying to become a runner since last winter but only got more serious about it this past Summer.

I've run a 5K and have an 8K in November too.

Try Hal Higdon 10K Novice or Intermediate training program. Just type it into a search engine.

I am planning on trying an 8K in just a month. I just ran my first 5K this weekend. With the warm up I ran for a total of 3.5 miles, so it's really only an extra 1/2 mile a week. Do you think this is do-able?
Any tips on how to get the extra distance in by race day?
Thanks

Tracy
