If you eat too fast without chewing yoru food properly you can gain weight. if you chew the food good and slowly you can lose weight. Remember, your intestines don't have any teeth so chew, chew, chew.
Chew chew chew. This will slow you down and there are so many benefits. A couple of reasons to slow down is you will feel full before you've eaten too much and it also helps with digestion. It's taken me a long time and I had to really concentrate on eating. I used to try and do too many things while eating and I would eat more than I needed.

You can also stop and take a few sips of water every few bites.

Well there is a couple of things I do, I put my fork down between bites, sounds silly but it works the other thin I do is I will eat half of what's on my plate then evaluate how full I am, if I'm still hungry, I will eat haf of that I usually repeat this process until I am ful of I have no food left on my plate either way I'm finished my meal, I have gotten pretty good at this I now finish my meal at the same time as my roomate, rather than finishing my plate while he is still cooking his...lol... hope this helps

I have always ate slow. I am usually the last one at the table. You have to train yourself to do this. If you eat with someone, try to let them get through eating before you do. Eating slower helps you digest your food better. rtlifestyle

I eat slow. I think everyone else is rude because they leave the table before i am half way done with my meals. Growing up with a strict mother who raised 4 kids alone and tellin us we couldn't leave the table till we ahd a clean plate she left the table first and we would toss peas on the ceilling and feed the rest of our food we didn't like to the dogs and she would return to find us smiling and wiping our mouths with the napkin.

I grew up in a house with 5 children. If you didn't quickly, you didn't get seconds.
I'm learning to put my fork down between bites, sometimes sitting on my hands to keep from shoveling in the food, to not eat in front of the tv or to read while I'm eating. I'm also learning to have a conversation with my Beloved while we eat. It's hard to talk with food in my mouth. (Mom would say it was bad manners. lol)

It would seem that the old-fashioned advice of chew each mouthful x number of times was a good idea. If we take longer than 20 minutes to get through a meal we usually reach what is called saiety?.(spelling error) When your stomach signals to your brain that you have had enough.

I am always the first one done too. I think it's because working retail many times I only had about 15 minutes to eat and sometimes it felt like less than that. It's sometimes really embarrassing if I'm around people who don't eat as fast as me. It makes me not want to eat around others at all. But I'll take some of the advice given here. Thanks for your post! I wish you the best!!

I sometimes don't pay attention when eating then look down to see the food is either completely gone or almost gone.
I'm going to try not to eat in front of the TV or computer and see if that helps to slow me down any. I like the idea of smaller utensils too.

I'm just like Sasi. I'm done with mine and he's just getting started. I went to IKEA and bought a set of salad forks and teaspoons that look like they are for children but without the thick plastic handles. They have helped slow me down since I'm only getting a third of the food I used to in my mouth.

I've always had this problem too. When I was in school I learned to eat fast because if I didn't, I wouldn't have time to eat. We had such a short time to eat in. Old habits die hard so you really have to concentrate and learn to eat slow. Retrain yourself. It's like anything, if you do it enough it will become a habit. Good luck! LOL and Hugs, Carol

Ok this what i have learned on the show " I can make you thin".. put fork down between each bite, so your paying attention to the food and see when your full. Also not to put a lot on your plate cause what you see you will want to eat all of..Try blind folding yourself.. and then eat, you will eat less and slower too!

I have a problem with this as well. I have a 30 minute lunch period at work and eating fast has become habit. I've been working on taking smaller bites; laying down the fork, spoon, or sandwich after each bite; and chew, chew, chew before the next bite. It also helps to take a drink of water after each bite. I'm hoping practice makes perfect! Good luck!

I know for me it is not easy either........I have to make a conscious EFFORT to take slower bites, so I am taking smaller bites as well....this is helping.

This is something I have battled all my life, I just eat way to fast. Do you have any suggestions on how to slow down? I have heard that it takes 20 minutes for your brain to realize your full. I think if I could concur this it would help me tremendously.
