No lol. Here is a link for some things you eat when doing a fat fast. www.carbsmart.com/fatfast.html

you eat 4 to 5 small meals 200 - 250 calories per meal, 90% fat. some people still make it work with 80%.

There are two different Fat Fasts, actually. The first is the one Dr. Atkins talked about, which is low calorie, very high fat, and practically no protein or carbs. I assume that the premise is that your body has absolutely nothing but fat to burn, so it makes the switch more easily. He was definite that it was only for people who are extremely carb resistant. A very tiny portion of the population.

The other Fat Fast comes from Jimmy Moore. He was absolutely stuck, due in large part to specific health issues. I don't remember exactly where he got the idea, but I think there was some medical and/or scientific background. He found that he needed to eat 80+% fat to stay in what he calls "nutritional ketosis" (or something like that). He measures ketones in the blood rather than ketones in the urine. It works for him; he lost a lot of weight on it and generally improved his health. I haven't read anything from him about it in quite a while, but he was refusing to post his menus (and, as I recall, his calories - he just talked about the fat %) because it was not something he was recommending or advocating. As he put it, he was an experiment with n=1 and the results could not/should not be generalized to anyone else.

I wish I could get more info on this...any ideas? Or do you have a simple explanation? Is the point that you are eating less calories because you are eating so much fat? I don't get the premise!

I try to go back to a FF every once in a while. Seems to help keep me on track. I do wish I could find more food ideas. If I shoot for a FF I at least end up closer to the the 80% fat I should be at!

This sounds good as a selfie-fat fast, as in, don't eat anything at all 1 or 2x per week, which in studies doesn't result in lean muscle mass loss. Fast on your own fat. A complete interruption of food would logically be more consistent with the lives of our distant ancestors than a 'fat fast'.

It's not that difficult for someone who is already in fat-burning mode. The hunger shows up and then subsides to a manageable level before and after meal times for me. Have used this maintenance strategy on and off for years.

This is the first I have heard of Fat Fast....I read most of the posts...very interesting. I am staying on low carb, low calories, under 1200. I did it for one whole week (YAY for me) and lost 2 elbees...i think the high fat works just because you are in a low calorie range. I'm not sure the fat factor has anything to do with it other than it keeps you from being hungry, as does the protein. So I am conflicted...anybody got any convensing words of wisdom?

All weight lost on fat fast put back on within 4 days and that was still staying within Atkins induction. Total waste of time and not something I would repeat. I didn't find the exercise that hard but I cant believe that jumping weight around like that is healthy.

Weighed in at 54.3 this morning. That is a total of 800gms lost on 3 days fat fast. Hopefullt that will just set me to those those last few kgs to get to 51. It seems that I only lose weight on 1000 - 1100 calories and can only maintain on 1200 - 1400. sigh.

I am starting a fat fast today. I have been eating low carb since November and I don't think I have gone into Ketosis. Except for two weeks when we were away I have kept my net carbs under 30gms a day but mostly 20-25. No weight loss and certainly no extra energy. In fact the first four weeks were awful as I had no energy and no power. So today.

Break
2 eggs
2 tsp mayo

Snack
Coffee with cream

Lunch
60gm Haas Avo
60gm Brie

Snack
40 gm thick cream
Coacoa/xylitol

Dinner
50 gm Cream cheese

It's not 200 cals a meal but it totals to 997 cals with 82% fat. I don't know how to get to over 90% fat, the cream cheese won't make it. It would have to be more cream.

I always have a runny nose, so didn't notice a difference. Though the fast worked very well, it was difficult for me. Not my favorite thing to do~

Has anyone else had post nasal drip when on a fat fast? I noticed it on day 2. It wasn't constant, but I had to find a kleenex a few times. It happened a few times on the first day off (25g of carbs, 1600 calories) and just a tiny bit today. I can't think of when I last had that happen.

Post fat fast report. I wasn't brave like Faith, Moxie and Iron Girl to put it out there daily.

I'm 5+ months into low carb, and almost 3 years into on and off SparkPeople. I lost 33 lbs in 2012 following a low fat vegetarian diet and getting regular exercise. And I gained 10 lbs back in 10 weeks. Blame the GirlScout cookies. When started tracking food and controlling calories again, two things went wrong. I didn't lose weight. And I just couldn't stand to eat low fat vegetarian any longer.

Enter keto. I work for someone who is super fit, who discovered keto adaptation as an athletic performance tool. It also worked magic on the high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol that her super fit husband had despite 10 years on a low fat, low sodium diet. It seemed liked the weirdest thing on earth for me, but I tried it and it was fun and I lost weight. Some fish, no other meats. My husband even joined in, and lost 45 lbs in a few months. I lost 22.5 lb in 4 months.

But I stalled right around 157.6. That's barely 1/2 pound over where I could shout "I've lost 50 lbs" It was demotivating. And I started working out less frequently, making more low carb yummies, having more artificially sweetened drinks. These are behaviors that interfere with weight loss for me. I just want to be done. My 145 pound goal is so close! Last week I had more carbs than intended 2 days in a row, and my weight bumped up about a pound.

End of long backstory.

3 days of fat fast, averaging 1003 calories (+/- 10) per day, and 80% calories from fat. Net carbs averaged 8g (+/- 1) and g protein averaged 40.

Starting weight: 159.6
After 1 day: 157.6 (water weight gone!)
After 2 days: 155.6 (yay!)
After 3 days: 155.4 (meh)

Total: 4.2 lbs in 3 days, probably 1 to 1.5 lbs of it water. And hey, have I mentioned I'VE LOST 50 POUNDS????

emoticon

My absolute favorite meal was 2 oz of melted brie with 1 oz of tuna and 1 tsp of capers stirred in (I had it 4 times in 3 days). I made Atkins fat fast cheesecake muffins (8 instead of 12 so they're about 220 cals each) and they were tasty, but kind of a let-down as a meal other than dessert. I also gave "bulletproof coffee" a try, and it was surprisingly sustaining.

I started every day thinking I just couldn't do it, and went to bed every night glad I'd stuck to it. Going into it, I was worried about the number of message board posts from people who'd done it repeatedly, but intrigued by those others who said they didn't gain the weight back if they kept eating low carb.

I would do it again in a heartbeat to clear out bloat, but only for a day. I'd need another prolonged stall to do it for 3 days. I'm back to normal low carb today, but it will be a while before I resupply with store-bought low carb ice cream or chocolates!

Shelley

PS - I made sure to drink lots of liquids, 10 - 12 cups a day which I don't always do. Admittedly, about half were caffinated (coffee, tea, or iced tea) because I'm a caffeine junky.

I was using this to get back into a keto state. Am now there and adding in a few more calories as I get hungry. I'm feeling better with the extra cals, still keeping up to 85% fat which is HARD when you eat those carbs and more protein! I just can't get into the pure fat taste....
I'm in moderate range on the keto stix. My morning glucose numbers are actually better, but its only been two days and that doesn't yet show a trend. I cut my metformin in half because I've been leary of too low carb on my metabolism and don't want to go low. Hypo is NO fun! I'll be checking in to see what folks are saying in here. Please keep posting your reactions to the ff so we can all learn!!

Thought I would chime in on this topic since I started on Monday. I do low carb but tend to fall of the bandwagon when I travel for work 1-2x per month. So decided to do fat fasting during the work week and Induction when I travel and on weekends so I can get more veggies and protein in (and I think it will help me be more compliant in the long run).

So here are the stats so far.
Monday: weight: 224.8, fasting glucose: 108; ketone stick no ketones; calories 930 with 87.7 coming from fat
Tuesday: weight: 221.8, fasting glucose: 90; ketone stick "small/pink", calories 1068 with 81% coming from fat
Wednesday: weight 221; fasting glucose 86; ketone stick "moderate/light purple"; 1101 with 86% coming from fat.

I'm using Dana Carpenter's "Fat Fast" book for ideas and listening to Jimmy Moore pod casts during my 3.5 mile walks for motivation. I plan to do slow lifting on Saturdays when my protein and calories are higher. May through in some sprints one day per week, but want to get through this day first.

First day I was hungry and had a headache. I feel fine yesterday and today. Wanting to eat seems more psychological so just need to keep myself busy!

I'm not diabetic yet. The doctor told me I was very close to being declared a diabetic one year ago. I have until September or October before I have to go back. I don't really check my blood sugars regularly. I know when they are low because I get shaky and my lower lip tingles. When I first started lowering my carbs, I was having some issues with low blood sugar, but discovered when I ate an ounce of cheddar cheese, it really helped. Now maybe my body has gotten used to the lower carbs and have not experienced anything.

I listen to Jimmy Moore's Low Carb Experts radio show which I download free from iTunes. I listen to his shows when I am running errands in the car. He interviews a lot of doctors on that particular show. People call in with questions for the doctors. These doctors are knowledgeable about lowcarbing. They have tips for when you have stalls, etc.

I had a headache for a couple of days when I tried the FF.

Well, I wish I had more to offer other than camaraderie! I've lost a lot of weight as well and it's at a frustrating point for me too! Peri-menopause seems to have had quite an impact on me. I think having been morbidly obese for so long affects it too. I seem to be quite insulin resistant. I am fortunate I've dodged the diabetes bullet.

I wish I had more wisdom for you, but what I can say is constantly remind yourself of how far you've come. I'm sure you've had vast improvements in health and well being!

What were your glucose numbers while doing the fat fast? Did you see a liver dump in response to the fast?

I heard a doctor on the Jimmy Moore Low Carb Experts talk show say that if 1,000 calories isn't doing well for her patients, she bumps them up to about 1,200 calories. Cheddar cheese usually stops me from having any low blood sugar shakes. I have only done a few days of a FF, lost 3 pounds, then gained back 2 pounds.

I generally run under 50 carbs a day and shoot for 30 or less as the goal. I've been in ketosis before. I' ve lost nearly 100 lbs so far, but have been stalled forever...6-8 months?

I'm not diabetic so I'm guessing here but maybe you've not been in ketosis before and going so low on carbs has done so. How low were your carbs before starting FF?

I am starting my ticker again since starting low carb....in the home strech!

Have been reading through this thread and have a couple questions. I'm a t2 diabetic and was wondering how many of you are also diabetics and how this FF is affecting your numbers. I started it this am and am feeling a bit shakey. I am always on a low carb program to control, but have been stalled for the last 6-8 months. I figured I'd give it a try for a couple of days, but this shakiness is a bit un-nerving. Do you get good readings from following this or does your liver kick in and pump out glucose?

I am not on the Fat Fast but I think I have got things moving a bit. I cut out all cheese. I have cut back on now much cream I am having and coffee. Generally just one cup with cream in the morning. I am eating more plain meat fat and all and low carb raw veggies, maybe a cooked veggie like green beans or spinach at dinner. I even cut out pork rinds and most of my flax. Also for now I am sticking with chicken and fish and turkey. I did have a pork chop the other day. I have cut out beef temporarily just to see what happens. My calories are down and I have been doing a bit more exercise. I am now in the 220's and going down a little every day. This is just what is working for me. I am also sort of spreading out my food to have protein in between my meals for snack. I know this is probably a no-no but someone gave me some green coffee bean supplement which I have been taking a couple of times a day before meals. I don't know if this is doing anything except making me pee everytime I turn around but at least this week I feel like something has broke through! Take it easy!

Hi Faith, today is day 4 and I'm on the verge of stipping. 148.6 this morning. 4 days and not even 2 full pounds, plus the hub is coming in from his adventure tonight so we're gathering at the dock (with beer, wine, hooch- depends on what everyone drinks)- it's always a good thing when they make it back from such things.

I'm finish the day on the FF and will switch to induction until Wednesday when I leave. I think I got too much fiber (supplements) because my stomach feels funny. . .

Yesterday I went over a bit, I came up way short before going to bed so I made a chocolate whip that put me right where I wanted, 1200c/84% fat. But, I got up in the middle of the night and had warm chocolate cream and added almost another 200c.

Mid day, 500 calories in (breakfast, snack and "lunch"), not especially hungry but I'm tired (more so than usual) and have zip for energy. I'm not thinking it's the ff though for some reason. It just doesn't feel food related. . .

A pound, 1 stinking pound, can you believe it? OK, still not down- I was going to do it 3 days but now I'm doing 5. So far so good on the hunger thing. Yesterday's food was right at 1000 calories and 82% fat, until I added the 2 T natural peanut butter to my midnight munchies and the fat dropped to 79%.

Today's bonehead maneuver was nuking my peperoni, I wanted it warm to go with an egg, not chips mind you, just warm; I put thm on a paper plate and 30 seconds later all the fat had drained off of them and was soaked in the paper plate! I think I should eat the plate. . .I got 2.5 miles in again last night- the weather ws PERFECT- no jogging though, my back was hurting so I just walked.

I just downloaded the Fat Fast cookbook- salt could be a problem but I drink a ton of water so I should be washing it through. I'm not panicing yet.

The exercise is extra- I have a giant dog that needs to be tired to be a good dog, he's only 1.5 and full of (fill in the blank) if not worked. I felt great! If I get tired or have no energy, I won't go anywhere. The sun is coming out so now I'm looking forward to our walk/run tonight!

Thanks for the feedback.

Hello Heidi,
Have you gotten Dana Carpender's online Fat Fast book? Or looked at Atkins FF chapter? Ideally it's around 90% fat. That's hard to do for any length of time from sheer boredom I think. Dana has recipes for 80,85 and 90% which at the lower fat level adds more variety.
Also, while sodium is important from some of the items you were eating that looks to maybe affecting weight loss too.

Day 1 of the FF went fairly well- I wasn't as hungry as I thought I'd be- I was just under 1000 until I got up for my midnight munchies. I am a horrible late night muncher, if I wake up for any reason and my stomach growls, I don't go back to sleep. So I had some warm cream with a bit of splenda- not much since I'm not a sweet eater to begin with, and a drop of vanilla. That did the trick and it upped my fat from 79% to 82%. I walked/ran almost 3 miles with the dog so got enough exercise in to cancel out at least 100 of those calories. Actually I might try more of that- it wasn't as hard or uncomfortable as I thought it would be- can't say I liked it but I did it- I'm wondering how long it would take me to go 5 miles. . .

After all the reading I've done about FF, I fully expected to get up this morning and be a pound lighter and was the exact same. I had also been in ketosis (not a lot but some) for the 2 days prior to the FF and thought I'd be seeing dark purple and didn't.

I'm not down and I'm not hungry so all is well. Now, if things don't bust a move by Friday I'll be a bit PO'd but am not going to worry about it until then.

I started FF today- I had half a Louisiana Hot Link and a HB egg for breakfast. 1 oz of walnuts for a snack, 1 oz Hormel peperoni for lunch, the other half of the hot link for an afternoon sanck. Thus far I'm at 79.% fat, 15% protein and 4.5 carbs. I'm going to have a chocolate cheese cake thing (cream, cream cheese, cocoa) for dinner.

Tomorrow I'll have to think about what I'll be making. . .Still have salmon leftovers- perhaps salmon spread on a lettuce leaf?

I'm just starting day 4 of the modified fat fast...in 3 days I've lost 4.5 lbs so that's great. This is the last day I'm doing it though...I need me some chicken haha I'm learning so much through: aboout how much food I really need and how I can eat more fat and less protein as a general rule, so even though I will be going back to normal low carbing tomorrow, I'm still going to work on doing it as a high fat, moderate protein plan. Can't wait to see the results from doing that.

Even with my day of 2000 calories it was still low carb and I will never change that. I really don't believe in "cheat" days as far as what kind of food I eat. I will not change how I think about that. I have sometimes just thrown it out and said I want this right now and have it. I usually regret it later because I don't like how my body behaves afterward. Very sick and weight gain.

I had some success with a diet I found on a TV infomercial a few years ago called Food Lovers Diet. I ordered it, and the package contained so much info and DVDs and journals, plus a website for support and recipes and such.

The exercise DVDs were very minimal and started out with just 12 minutes a day - nothing drastic. But then I hurt my foot and could barely walk for 3 years and the weight came back on.

Anyway, I remember that the guy would tell you to eat on this program for 3 days and every 4th day was a 'cheat day'. You could have the extra dessert or whatever you wanted for that day. So, it was tricking your body into not holding on to the fat.

It was a nice way of eating because it was meant to keep your blood sugars stable.

But I was thinking about the day you ate 2,000 calories. That would have been like your cheat day.

I didn't stick with the program because I was so upset with my foot injury, just walking took a priority at the time. Foot is healed up now, so I don't have any excuses for no exercise.

That is what I was thinking but then I had a day of at least 2000 calories then I dropped to my lowest weight in 20 years. So I was even thinking low cal, then higher cal days still all low carb high fat. As long as I don't go up very far and maitain then I am happy losing her and there and eventually going down, down , down which I have done over the last 2 years.

LivinMyDreams - I understand about the learning to understand our bodies thing. I just turned 59 Saturday, and it suddenly dawned on me that I only have one year left to be in my fifties. emoticon

I belong to the SparkTeam LowCarb - 50's plus females. I haven't been as active on that team, but I think I will since they may be facing similar age-related issues.

They have a thread going about what they ate in May that was very interesting. They were 'cycling' between low calorie days and low carb days. I think they are trying to trick their bodies into losing weight with some success. But they seem to be on the low calorie end of the tracker. I think that is where I need to be to lose some weight.

I downloaded her book too but wasn't thrilled with it. A lot of the recipes have ingredients that I just probably will not get or use. Maybe... will see. I have been off the fat fast all week. was craving protein. I always do when coming off of it but tried to not over indugle with it. I did get down to 226 finally out of the 230's although that was not until I had a day that I ate everything under the sun that was allowable. Had a bad weekend. Too much of veggies and fruit and cheese etc. I am up today to 231. It will come down again I am sure. Plan on being very strict today. I know that my weight is very termperamental. I am learning what affects it the most. I am still not convinced that calories don't affect me. I almost wonder if carb cycling or whatever might work for me. I am still trying to figure out the body of mine after 59 years. At least now I am listening to it.

LivinMyDreams - I downloaded Dana Carpender's fat fast book with the recipes. Really nifty book. I haven't tried a fat fast yet, but it might be in my near future.

I remember reading a part where she said not to stay on it too long or you might get metabolic resistance.

After a week of over-indulgences, I'm going for a 7-day modified FF, starting today. I'm going to stick to 1200ish calories and 80-85% fat for Monday through to Friday, then try and add a bit more protein over the weekend but still keep my carbs around 10-15g. Hoping to just get rid of some of the bloat, exercise some self-control, meditate on my progress and my journey and healthy lifestyle, and get this weight moving again.

Today's menu:
Breakfast: 35g tuna, handful of kale and spinach, 70g avocado, 10g mayo
Lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, handful of kale and spinach, 70g avocado, 5g mayo
Snack(s): 50g walnuts, 1 hard boiled egg
Dinner: vanilla flavoured cream cheese

That all comes to 1168 calories, of which 81% is fat, 15% protein, 3% carbs. I'm liking that breakdown emoticon

I do all my regular exercise on modified ff. I guess I did all my exercise on Atkins fast fat too but that wasn't many days that I recall. I do spin, Pilates, swim, yoga, walk.

I think if you do Dana Carpender type FF you should be fine going for a stretch at a time. Really see how you feel.

Good for you going to the Mexican restaurant and not eating the chips!

Yesterday I started a 4 day fat fest. My goal was high 80% and I hit 83%. Not too shabby really.
One thing I made and very tasty was pickled pig feet in sour cream with cilantro and jalapeno over romaine lettuce. A good change and great balance for this fest.

I do not think it is recommended to stay on a fat fest more than 10 days. I will begin to need more protein after 4 days so I will increase protein but try to maintain the carb count to 15-20. I can only hope for a loss at the end of 4 days. Lucky you.

type with you later. Junebug

Well I have done 5 days on fat fast. The weekend was a bit higher on things. Went out to Mexican dinner on Saturday and had planned just sour cream 2 T and a couple T of guacamole. I ended up having more guacamole than planned and a bite of steak and a bite of shrimp. Not bad though. No chips!

Also yesterday I was fixing some london broil for my DH and ended up having about an oz of that. I am down about a pound today from Friday but about 8 pounds from last Monday after my disasterous eating day at the beach. I really wanted to be further into the 220's. I was 229.8 this morning. I am continue with similar eating but I guess you would say I am doing a modified fat fast at this point. Eating a bit more per meal and only 4 meals a day but basically the same kind of food. I suppose I shouldprobably introduce a bit more protein/veggies??? Anyone have any thoughts on this or should I just keep going with the extremely high fat and extremely low protein and carbs?

I also walked a mile on Saturday morning and rode the exercise bike everyday last week while on the fat fast for 30 minutes each day.

Good for you ADZY...

I had to adjust for today. I am basically doing the same thing as yesterday but I forgot my heavy cream thinking I had some at work. I forgot I finished it up yeasterday. I am just bumping everything up and will have something else later. So check this out...
From my bad eating on Saturday I was up when I weighed in on Monday morning. 237. Tuesday I weighed 234 and yesterday before starting my fat fast I was 235. This morning after one day of fat fast and riding the exercise bike all week after work for 30 minutes, I weighed 230..2. What a week, huh. I really want to get into the 220's and may stay on fat fast or modified fat fast until I am securely in the mid 220's.

Moxie, I think Spin is probably as hardcore as Boot Camp! Glad to know it's not a bad thing to work out intensely when doing the ff. I decided I was only hungry because I was so bored at work. By the time I was on the train home yesterday, I no longer felt weak and hungry! So weird. I even managed to go for a 5 mile jog before eating my final 'meal'.

Not being able to eat all nuts must be such a pain! I don't know what I would've done without my walnuts the past couple of days...they really took me through. Hope you find another suitable snack for the ff.

So my 2 days are over....drum roll please...I lost 4.4 lbs! In 2 DAYS! 1.8 the first day, 2.6 the second day! Fab! I know some of that might come back now that I'm going back to low carbing as usual, but that's fine by me. Today and tomorrow I'm going back to Induction and just keeping under 20g net carbs, then from Saturday I'll go back to my normal numbers of 50g net or less.

Think I'm gonna do the fat fast once a month, for a couple of days after my planned 3-weekly splurge. Seems to have worker wonders.

Still gonna be following this thread closely so keep letting us know how you're doing. Couldn't have done it without all the advice I read on this thread so THANK YOU emoticon

Ok here is my menu for today:

1) coffee with 1/4 c cream
2) 2 eggs with 1 T mayo
3) 10 slices pepperoni with 1 oz cream cheese
4) .5 oz cacique cheese (like feta but Mexican) 1/4 avocado, 1 T olive oil
5) 1 T cocoa powder, 1 oz cream cheese, 2 T sour cream, 1 tsp splenda

Total calories: 1052
Total carbs: 19 - net carbs 10 - 7.1 %
Total fat: 101 84.7%
Total protein: 22 8.2%

I need to get the protein and carbs down more tomorrow. Will plan better. I did this kind of quickly last night.

I work out every day but I don't do boot camp. I take spin class a few times a week and round out with a variety of other things. I haven't noticed being more hungry when working out. As I said before in this thread I shoot for 1200 and go as high as 1500 if I need to.
I'm planning to go back on in a day or two. I spent a few days trying different nuts to check for intolerance and ended up gaining! I am really like the princess and the pea. One little thing and up it goes!

I am starting my ticker again since starting low carb....in the home strech!

Man I am HUNGRY today emoticon I've just had my second 'meal'...the thought of another 3 hours and then just having 20g of walnuts...depressing haha I'm wondering if this is because of the boot camp I did this morning?

Mind over matter Adz, mind over matter. Getting through by thinking of how great I will tomorrow on the scale. It'll be worth it. But I do wish I could eat a couple of chicken drumsticks right now, not even going to lie haha

Think I've just gotten so used to never really being very hungry when I'm doing my normal low carbing. I can easily go 6 hours in between meals. I thought all this fat would make up for the lack of filling protein, but I guess not yet. Kinda glad I'm only doing this for 2 days...although I think I'm going to do this every few months, because it is amazing.

Great! Looking forward to hearing about yours Faith. How many days are you going for?

Wow I can't actually believe how well this is working! I weighed in yesterday at an all time low of 180.4...this morning after just ONE day on the fat fast, I'm 178.6! Nearly 2lbs in one day! Wow! I've read on here that some of this comes back when you go back to normal low carbing, but my only goal here was to drive myself right back into ketosis, so this is exciting.

So Day 2's menu is this:

Breakfast: 50g Shiritaki lightly stir fried in 5g Kerrygold butter and 40g tuna in oil, with 60g avocado and 5g mayo
Lunch: 50g Shiritaki noodles lightly fried in 5g butter, with 2 hard boiled eggs, 60g avocado and 5g mayo
Snack 1: 20g walnuts
Snack 2: 30g walnuts
Snack 3: low carb vanilla cheesecake

That'll be 1194 calories, 11g net carbs, 100g fat, 39g protein. So 83% fat.

I did find myself quite hungry yesterday afternoon and had to drown myself in water and green tea until my next 'meal time', which did the trick. I don't know if that was due to lack of food or because I had been to the gym on my lunch break. Are you guys able to put in a good workout during a fat fast? As I write, I'm heading to an early morning boot camp class. I haven't had breakfast yet because I don't like working out with food in my stomach. Do you find your performance lags during the ff? Hoping not...

Ahhh I am SO glad I found this thread! I'm trying to the fat fast from today for the first time! I'm so excited and I have just read through literally every post of this thread emoticon

I'm going for 1000-1200 calories, and 80-90% fat, just for 2 days. Then I'll do Induction for 2 days after that, then I'll back to my regular low carb eating.

Thanks for all the recipe ideas you guys have posted on here! I'm so excited for the next 2 days. My menu for today is:

Breakfast: 1oz tuna in oil, 70g avocado, 10g mayo
Lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, 60g avocado, 5g mayo
Snack: 30g walnuts
2nd snack before my netball match: 30g walnuts
Dinner: cheesecake (50g cream cheese, 1g Splenda, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and a base of 10g ground almonds with 5g butter)

That comes to 1212 calories, 10g net carbs, 111g fat, 39g protein. So 84% fat there.

I'm so excited. I weighed in this morning at my lowest ever weight: 180.4 lbs (and that's coming over a real carb overload yesterday) so I'm excited to see what 2 days of this does for me. Thanks everyone!

I guess it depends what you do when you go off it.....
I think for me protein and calories can't get too out of whack or I'll gain. I'm still testing the waters to see what is an issue for me. With berries in season I'm splurging on those right now but still staying pretty LC. I almost never eat starchy veg (recently ate a teeny tiny potato and 1/2 corn cob which I hadn't done in nearly a year) I don't eat grains or beans. I live at the top (or is it the bottom?) of the carb ladder. Only eating cheese, nuts if I can figure out which I'm intolerant of, and berries.

I am starting my ticker again since starting low carb....in the home strech!

Do you find that you gain back when you go off of it? It seems like I did so I was thinking of trying to stay on it for awhile.

I seem to do well cycling on and off it. I maintain just doing plain old LC and then lose while doing fat fast. I'll probably go back on it in a few days....

I agree. I am exactly the same way. Did a diet last year through a diet center and lost about 20 lbs. As soon as I started eating regularly with carbs and stuff, I just got worse and worse controlling what I was eating. Gained all of that back. Really upset about it, but started last Friday doing low carb and the scale is going down. Just need to stay on plan. emoticon

Doing GREAT! Feeling GREAT!! In control again!
***as a side note---I have a long history of compulsive/emotional/binge eating. The only way I can stay "in control" with my eating, & resist eating out of boredom & not feel hungry ALL THE TIME, obsessing about when my next meal or snack is.........
I LOVE me some carbs!!! But I can not keep myself in control of portions when I am off of Atkins & out of ketosis.*****
Thanks for reading! emoticon

Dr. Atkins original Fat Fast was 1000 calories. He designed it for those who were resistant to losing on his regular plan.

Dana Carpender has a Modified Fat Fast that is 75-85% fat and a little higher in calories. I've found it more sustainable than the Atkins one because of it's variety.

Going higher on fat allows your body not to be as hungry on fewer calories and lose weight.

Starting another hard core fat fast again today. Will be glad in a couple of days when I am deep into nutritional ketosis & aren't as hungry & fixated on food. After a 5 day fast (10000 cal & 85% fat ) I plan on adding more calories & staying the course!gotta get beach ready by August!!

I can tell you that it's worth it to buy the fat fast cookbook, It's Kindle or PDF. I've been really happy with her stuff.
I'm adding some to my spark recipes for tracking purposes.... seafood stock, cream, canned salmon and dill.

I made the "bread" too. Has a long shelf life and tasty. Nothing has taken too long either.

Me too on the calories today although at least I slept!

Good for you staying relatively on track.

I made sliced mushrooms sauteed with butter and Boursin and I added some beef too which was YUMMO.

I think I'll do the seafood soup again tomorrow. I've been really happy with Carpendar's recipes.

Not staying as low as I would like on calories, but I have been awake for almost 36 hours, give or take, I work night shift & didn't have time to sleep today. Plus, I decided I deserved a little beer & wine tonight. emoticon But, all in all, feel pretty good! I was really having a hard time making it through my urges to eat fast food today, had a stressful night. But I resisted!! Celebrating with a Michelob ultra & a glass of red vino, to accompany my boursin stuffed mushrooms! I'm peeing purple on the stick, so that is good. Will weigh, again, in the morning. All I know is I didn't binge on bad food today & I am proud! Cheers! emoticon
