Thanks for the suggestion ladies. I've actually stumbled upon the primal blue print site about 6 months ago and found it interesting, but I was brainwashed that carbs are good and fats are bad. Now I see it through open eyes.

Thanks again!

I second that. emoticon
I also want to add, if you like you can share what exactly you eat for a day or two. It is unlikely that too much fat should cause digestive upset but it may be the kind of fat you are eating or additives to the fat (like you commonly find in bacon). On the other hand it is very possible to get too much protein and feel sick. It's nature's way of saving us from the damage of excessive protein.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you might actually be better suited to a paleo or primal style of eating, rather than Atkins. It sounds like you don't have any trouble maintaining your weight, and mostly want to concentrate on curbing hunger and staying strong. Check out The Primal Blueprint and see if their eating plans resonate better with you:

This is still low carb, but with an "ancestral" slant.

Thanks for the response everyone. Today I ate 30g of carbs, but my stomach doesnt feel so good. Is it possible that all these rich foods are irritating my digestive system? I was eating about 30% fat before and now I'm eating about 65%.

Another question, since I am already slim, do I need to do induction or should I just hop on over to the OWL phase or even premaintance?

As I mentioned already, I was already cutting out white stuff and subbing in fruits and veggies and getting around 200 carbs a day. Maybe I should do induction for only one week to see what happens?

UGOOGLY,
your question is a good one and has to do with habits at least in part. Habits are slower to change than physical needs sometimes. The biggest issue is your guilt feelings about eating. You may not be eating too many calories at all if you work out a fair amount. If you eat when you are not hungry it is worth finding out what triggers the eating. I'll respond more later.
Hugs,
Birgit

Are you saying that your calories actually went up since doing low carb? Or are they still about the same?

It's probably not fear of calories you're talking about, it's fear of fat.

Once you get your mind wrapped around the idea that fat is actually good for you and wheat and sugar and potatoes are not it should get easier. Generally low carb dictates that you eat when hungry, stop when satisfied (not stuffed!) and don't eat anything that spikes your blood sugar and causes cravings.

Hi there. I've just started doing a low carb diet and having no trouble with keeping carbs under 30g EXCEPT I know I am eating WAY too much. I'm so used to eating 6 times a day when I was eating carbs (as I was ALWAYS hungry), that I'm still doing this dispite being satisfied. How do I get out of this habit of thinking I need to eat all the time and how many cals should I be aiming for? I usually lift weights 3 x a week, so on average before doing an atkins style diet, I was consuming 2200 cals easily, about 6 meals a day. I find I'm still doing this even though I'm eating almost 60% fat now (as opposed to the 30% before). I love body building and its been programed into me that I need to eat every few hours to keep my muscle.

I feel super guilty eating that many calories still while consuming 60% fat now.
