I'm ready to start climbing the ladder. I have about 20 lbs left to my goal and I am so ready to learn how I will eat for the rest of my life. I added berries last week, about 15-20 blueberries and added almonds this week. I am at around 25 net carbs right now. I have been really exercising portion control and I have lost well this week. I'm going to stay with this for 1 week and then will go for 30.

OWL for those of you who might not know is Ongoing Weight Loss or Phase 2. This is where you start adding variety to your diet ... while you keep losing weight by contining to try different vegetables then (if you are still losing) gradually add nuts and seeds, berries and a few other low sugar fruits. And if you are still losing you might be able to reintroduce some beans.

Remember to reamp up your activity level or begin a fitness program such as walking.

I have lost 34 lbs. since April in Induction, but I have decided to go into owl because my Nutritionist has been giving me a hard time about my diet being to strict, and being able to maintain it long term. My last meeting with her was very odd, because my A1C numbers dropped from a 12.9 (diabetic) to a 5.4, below normal, my cholesterol dropped 6 points, and all my nutritional numbers were good, but she still felt she needed to lecture about my diet. I did point out how it seemed she was upset because I was doing so well, and that is when she brought up slowing down to be able to maintain in the future

I have added 1 to 2 slices of sprouted grain bread to my induction diet. This has allowed me to continue to lose weight (not counting last week, I fell off the wagon a bit), and has also gotten the Nutritionist off my back! It has also added needed fiber to my diet. I did not find induction difficult at all, of course being diabetic, and loving my toes, I have been highly motivated to maintain a low carb lifestyle!

I have found OWL to be much more challenging because it is not so rigid. I'm one of those all or nothing kind of girls I guess.

I hate the fact that my weight loss is slowing down, but I'm trying to stay positive about it because the slower you lose weight, the less loose and baggy skin you get!

I'm fairly new into OWL. The first week I added back berries and found myself craving and constantly hungry, so I dropped them for a few weeks. This week, I've had berries 4 days of 7 with no problem. I'm struggling with the fear that the weight loss won't continue. I still can't wrap my brain around the idea of eating like this and losing weight, even though my clothes are looser and the scale says good things.

Hi,
I am back to trying OWL--I got derailed last time--I added too many things in too quickly and I wasn't counting my carbs. So I will add one thing from the list every 5 days--that should give my body a chance to recover and get used to the increased carbs. i am also weighing myself daily. I must say the cravings and temptations are easier to handle this time around.

How is everyone doing in OWL? I will be starting soon. I'm sure we al went through this, but I am nervous about really slowing up in weight loss. Does anyone have advice? Does working out help with weight loss?

I am starting OWL on Monday. This is my last week of Induction. It took my body several weeks to cooperate with the process of Induction. I have lost about 8lbs in the last two weeks and I know that is gonna slow down. I have to accept the slow down is on the way. Good thing is I have 29.7 lbs to loose so it is a good time to slow up a bit. I wanna keep this stuff off. As of today I have lost 27.3lbs. Hoping to hit the -30 lb mark by Monday so I can go go go with the OWL. Looking forward to have some nuts and more fruits. Yay!

My hubby is starting to look into trying Atkins now that he has seen what it has done for me. :) I sure hope he does. He will be so much happier once the Induction phase starts to work for him.

I'm in the OWL phase (been back on ANA for 6 weeks, have lost 16 lbs). I've been super careful about my carb intake and am a bit frustrated because despite working out a lot, eating exactly what I'm supposed to (and not what I'm not supposed to), low stress, no medications, lots of water, and SP indicates my calorie count is within "their" daily range (even though I'm not counting calories on ANA) I haven't lost much at all this week. It's hard to be patient -- I've only ever been this low in weight once in 30 years (got two pounds lower than current weight 8 years ago on ANA) so maybe it is my body's reaction to going below some "set point" and gettting really close to my ideal weight? However, according to BMI charts, I could lose another 7 lbs for an ideal weight, and I feel like I could do so for comfort -- still have some belly fat. Guess I just need to keep eating right, exercising, and let the results on the scale be up to mother nature. . . emoticon

Dreamweaver, I am trying to do LESS than 20 carbs per day. I'll join you for the week for the low carbs, I'm hoping to stay on it longer than a week actually.

I forget all the categories in which to add things back. I know it's in the new book (list form). Basically you add back nuts, then berries, then veggies (lower then higher carbs), whole grains, then finally the bread products.

I think it's in that particular order for two reasons. One: you aren't likely to be tempted to drop off the plan by leaving breads last. Two: most people aren't used to eating more fruits and veggies than breads/grains.

Let us know how it goes for you!

Carrie

Hi GG! Didn't know if this was meant for me - yes you can stay oninduction longer the problem is that it gets addictive - so easy to lose the weight and maintaining is what is hard (that is what I struggle with!) I want to eat healthy and weight loss is a nice side effect right now - I need to lose 30 lbs or so - shrug- great if I do but I am a sugar holic so I needed to go on induction to clean myself out and get back on track -

I love the new book - it really outlines the struggles to maintain a slow and steady loss. So right now I am adding carbs in slowly so try to identify triggers - this means jumping back and forth between induction and OWL.

Thanks for asking this! it helps to keep me focused on my real goals and not get caught up in the fast loss thing!

emoticon I believe Atkins web site has said not to stay on Induction over the 2 wks. Your brain needs a few more carbs than 20. Have you checked the site out yet? Everything you want to know is there, and more. Sharon

Moving out of induction to OWL - thought I would take it slow and montior everything closely this week staying in the 2-25 range adding some nuts and veggies if I feel the need. i honestly feel pretty good on induction! Not deprived at all and eating pretty much what i want. emoticon 8 lbs down!

I am looking to find my CLL as I skipped that last time so I really don't know.

I do have a question for later though - when do you add things like high fiber low carb tortilla's and english muffins. they are really the only two things I miss once in a while. about 6 net carbs in each i think.

Thanks all! emoticon

Well, i didn't lose anything on the Induction and i wonder if it is because i already take 2 water pills everyday for fluid retention. I am going to start all over again and track everything i eat and drink! I got sick of doing it but know i have too. I have 20 lbs to lose(150-130)I usually walk everyday too at least 4 miles but had to stop while my back hurts so much. I am going to start back today no matter how much it hurts. I will take 800mg of Motrin 4x a day to see if helps. I the Carb Quick expensive? How about Arrow Root?

I think it can be used as a thickener because people use it to make gravy.

What kind of Biquick recipes have you used it for Maria? Do you think it is a product that can undermine us or help us have a bit more variety?

I never thought about using it in place of Bisquick! That would make it very easy to lower some already low-carb recipes! I wonder if it would be a good thickener, in place of cornstarch and such, as well?

I haven't used carbquik, but have used Bob Mill's Low Carb baking mix a couple times. I get into the same problem, undermining myself with products instead of eating real food. I'm determined to get to and through OWL without those things, but at the same time, I'm glad they exist for the special occasions (like my own birthday this summer) lol!

Once you got past Induction, what were the first few things you really had success adding back? I know I can eat nuts, and that's great for a snack, but I'm talking about meals. Today I'm adding in raspberries and whipped cream with stevia for a dessert tonight. I'm excited!!

Does anyone here use Carbquik? I love to bake and I undermine myself by baking, lol! I bought some of this product recently in the hopes of reducing my carb count a bit more. Any successes using this?
