Good Morning All, Last night fixed mexican food for Hubby and me.It was wonderful and I got to use my ripe avocado for guacumole.I keep my avocados in the fridge until I want to ripen them then put them out on the counter and they are ready in about two to three days,if at that time I don't want to use them, back they go into the fridge but only for a day or two.I was raised on an avocado ranch in S.Calif a long time ago and have always loved avocados we used to raise the very large "Fuertes" but now can only find "Hass" in the stores and they are expensive when not on sale. Most of my vege's stay in the fridge except onions, potatoes .I store them in our pantry.Green onions are the exception, they go into the fridge.I missed the article on what vege's not to refrigerate so am guessing as to what they are!Have a fun day going to be beautiful in S.Oregon today up in the high seventies or low eightys, time to garden!!CLin Oregon

I've actually added that recipe to my cookbook! I hope to try it in the next couple of weeks.
I've also recently spotted an avocado egg salad recipe. I'm not a fan of throwing out yolks or using 8 eggs (even if 4 are just the whites) in a recipe for one person, so I may modify it, but I'm definitely going to try it.
Love, love, love avocados!! They are great in salads or just as a side at breakfast. I think, by and large, they are underappreciated. I can't quite convince my granddaugher to indulge--in time, I'm sure.
Have you tried the Crustless Spinach, Onion, Feta Quiche? It's great!

Thanks for the tips. I pretty much knew this info but wasn't sure if there was new stuff. Which would be re avocado LOL I never bought avocados before but I do remember friends who bought them and they always left them out.
As for food that has been cut up already or chopped into, e.g. onion and tomato, they do have to be refrigerated for up to a few days to avoid bacteria growth.

Interesting article... I knew about the potatoes and make an effort to store them somewhere other than the fridge.. didn't know about the paper bag though. Now I need to figure out how to keep some of the others organized in a pantry on on the counter....
