I agree on the toaster oven! There is only two of us so I cook my entre's as well. The only thing I use my oven for is baking - the toaster oven's rods are just too close and burn my buns!

I'm pretty sure I'd flat out DIE if I didn't have my toaster oven! I use it to toast sandwiches, bake small batches of side dishes or appetizers for dinners, and also reheats any of my food (I don't own a microwave) that isn't designed to be steamed!

I'm also a fan of my immersion blender - couldn't do morning smoothies without it!

All great! The crockpot is doing potatoes for me today. And, I love my rice cooker! Foil - yes! Simple but really an essential.

I could not survive without my crockpot or my rice cooker. It cooks while I sleep and it is ready for me to freeze into meal portions or take to work that night.

I couldn't live without my toaster oven! It also does convection cooking. Also, my saucepan with a steamer insert for all my veggies.

Foil. It is my sidekick in cooking and baking.

My Mom has what she calls a counter top oven (she refuses to replace her broken oven) and really enjoys. They make me nervous. Plus, my kitchen is tiny and really no room for more than the toaster. So, I use the oven sparingly in the summer.

Another dream item for a future kitchen is a double oven, where one of the ovens is smaller than the other -- not two full-size ovens.

Also, I'd have to agree with the suggestion of a microwave - it is what I use for warming leftovers and actually for some of my frozen veggies.

I love the cutting sheets. They are thin and you can pick them up and pour things right where you want them.

I have a toaster oven, crock pot and large electric skillet that I use outside. Without them, I'd have to cook in the microwave and do without a lot of things this time of year. We live in a motor home and can't get cooled down again if it's hot.

I just added some thing new to my kitchen and that is a toaster oven. I do like to use an oven to do a lot of my cooking. This summer it was so hot I didn't want to turn the oven on. I was able to get rid of my toaster and I can bake, broil & toast in it. I love it. It cooks faster then the oven for just me its just the right size.

LOL! I don't mind the cooking so much, but I'm the only one to do the clean-up, so even that would work for me...

Peedle - I second that motion!

I wouldn't want to be without my microwave even though I really don't cook much with it, but warm up lots of things with it.

In the past we've had discussions about favorite gadgets. I recently saw this article about Kitchen essentials and thoughts I'd share since many of us haven't always been cooks. I love the chopping board pictured - if I ever get to design my own kitchen, I want one part of the countertop to be butcher block. Had that in an apartment once and I loved it.

What say you? What must your kitchen have?
