P.S. On YouTube they have videos on how you can make fresh bread in a rice cooker too

You can feel sore tomorrow or you can feel sorry tomorrow, which would you prefer?

I've been looking forward to getting a rice cooker all summer. I had been going to a local arcade to save up enough tickets to win one.

When I finally had enough, I went 4 of the same arcades and they had none left. I was so bummed! So in the meantime I decided I'd go on a low carb diet.

Low and behold, my boyfriend goes to a 5th place and there's ONE left *lol* He just sent it to me.

I'm glad to know I can use it to steam my veggies.

You can feel sore tomorrow or you can feel sorry tomorrow, which would you prefer?

I have a Black and Decker handy steamer. LOVE it.
I cook rice, barley , veggies etc. in this steamer QUICKLY.

Don't make "meals" in it though.

I really hate to cook so something that makes it easier is going to make be do it.

By the way, for rice to go with stir-fry or Mediterranean flavors, try making brown jasmine or brown basmati rice with a pinch of saffron and a little sea salt. Very tasty.

Does anyone else have ideas for rice cooker meals? I love my rice and beans, but I'm always up for trying something new!

I've not had mine long, but I've enjoyed it. No problems with brown rice. Someone did suggest adding chicken broth (I use the Wyler's crystals) to the water and I find that really works.

Love the rice and bean idea and will have to try it.

I use my rice cooker to steam veggies: broc, caulif.
carrots, etc. I also used it for cabbage before and worked great.
You can purchase at Walmart for sure as that is where
mine came from.

You can find them almost anywhere that sells home appliances... a place like Walmart or a department store should do the trick.

Enjoy no more scrubbing rice off the bottom of a pan (or even paying attention to the rice for that matter!!)

Got mine at Canadian Tire. Sorry, Canadian tire is an institution up here. You can get everything from tires, your car fixed to home care stuff. Kind of a manly walmart.

Try walmart or similar. It is a small appliance. Mine was on sail for about $25.

Hmmm, neat trick! My cooker has different "fill to this level" lines for brown rice than for white rice, and it works great every time. But it's good to know that there's a common-sense way to measure it.

I know this sounds like a majic trick but I learned it from my Chinese son in law.... put the rice in the cooker and fill with water until you insert your finger into the water ... when the tip of your finger touches the rice the water level should be at the first knuckle. works for me every time every kind of rice.

if the brown rice isn't done enough for you, you can add more water and put it in cook gear again.

I must be missing something with this brown rice thing... Whenever I make brown rice in a cooker, it doesn't cook all the way through. I LOVE brown rice, but brown rice is so tricky!

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

And I agree, by the way, about the cooker making brown rice so easy to cook. I sometimes also get brown/wild/multigrain mixtures at healthy-foods stores - they do great in the cooker, either on their own or as just a little "accent" mixed in with brown rice. The flavor is more interesting, so you don't feel you have to add flavor with butter or salty seasonings.

I've never tried making sushi at home! Maybe I'll experiment with it.

I often make black beans and rice with my cooker. I cook 3 scoops of brown rice with a little sea salt and a good dollop of cumin, drain/rinse 2 cans of black beans, and mix them together with 1/2 to 3/4-cup of salsa. Very easy and it can be either a main dish or a side dish - I eat on it for several days.

I use rice cooker to make rice:-) it makes it easier especially for a brown rice, which can be pain in neck to cook otherwise.
I also make ton of sushi. I ger sushi rice, nori seaweed and soy sauce at Asian market (Walmart etc has them too, but more expensive) and stick whatever inside (I like the best crab meat, avocados, cucumbers, cream cheese, egg omelet...).
Rinse the rice 2-3 times and do not drain completely. Add 1 cup of water per cup of rice and cook in rice cooker. Then mix with sushi vinegar (or ice vinegar + sugar) to taste and roll up. Serve with soy sauce.

Fall seven times. Stand up eight.
