Yikes! I have never done a recipe makeover except to modify the actual recipe itself. Meaning, that I have deleted the original ingredient and then re-added it. Not sure if this is what you are aiming for. I'd recommend popping into the SparkRecipes Feedback and Support Forum, www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageb

ADLINS...I need HELP!
I have figured out how to use the recipe builder and cookbook creator, but I am having problems with creating a recipe makeover.
I am making a chinese fried rice recipe today, and did a recipe makeover to cut the sesame oil portion in half to lower the fat and calories.
I saved it, then put it into my chinese dinner recipe cookbook, and finally added the recipe my nutritional tracker for dinner tonight.
Problem is it changed the CALORIES but didn't change my makeover recipe to reflect the CHANGE in AMOUNT of the oil!???? Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Very Frustrated!
PLEASE HELP! emoticon

If this doesn't work for you, there is a way to search SparkRecipes for single serving recipes that have been uploaded by other members.

In the beginning, recipes were submitted by users who froze the extra... we did change the policy, but decided not to delete the recipes that had been submitted.

And, yeah, every so often we have folks who submit recipes and then set them to private. I will go in soon and remove those that are set to private.

There are recipes in the cookbook for serving of 10 and servings of 18. Thought it was a cookbook for serving 1 or 2 people. Also some of the recipes are not showing up, because they are set as private.

You can create your own cookbook as you add recipes as well.

Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Hi Women4Change. You have to add the recipe to your SparkRecipe cookbook (it might have been having technical difficulties), then post the link here and I add it to the cookbook.

Let me know when it's there. If you continue to have problems, you might want to post something in the technical message board.

Ok I'm REALLY sorry. For some reason the page where you can add your recipes isn't working for some reason and I just REALLLY want to share this SUPER SIMPLE but amazingly DELICIOUS recipe. So I'm just gonna post it here and hopefully it can get into the team cookbook anyway.

It's black bean salsa.

2 cans of black beans, drained
2 cans of corn, drained
1 jar of salsa

Mix all ingredients together. I like to spread mine on a tortilla with melted cheese, or it's a great dip.

See? EASY! And DELICIOUS and HEALTHY!
Thanks for letting me share. Maybe later I can get that page to work, but I've been trying all morning and it hasn't!

TEVA - years ago I purchased pc cookbook software - Now You're Cooking (www.ffts.com). It wasn't expensive and I get FREE UPGRADES FOR LIFE! I mostly use it for recipes I want to save from magazines and ones I've gotten from library cookbooks, etc. It uses the nutritional database, you can search by ingredients, you can make menus and have it generate a shopping list, and really, it has lots of features which I don't even use. Sorry, I don't me to be a commercial here, but I rely on that program more and more.

The cookbook feature here at SP is a GREAT way to find (or re-find) interesting recipes. I wish there was a simple way for me to do that with all my paper cookbooks...you know like I have 15 cookbooks each with recipes I like and those I don't like. Wouldn't it be great to have one with all the ones you like? And maybe another of all the ones you want to try? Without infringing on copyrighted material, that goes without saying.

Make sure the cookbook is public. I think the default when you create it might be private.

Here is a soup recipe that serves 4. It's a great way to eat kale.

This soup is a beautiful sunny yellow in the bowl with dark green kale and purple potato chunks, and when I entered all the ingredients in the nutrition tracker... it turned out it was practically perfectly balanced too... with lots of potassium.

Thanks so much! I'm a librarian, so I get fair use for education, but quite honestly, was somewhat stumped here with the recipes. So I'm very glad you chimed in. Also, very glad that you found the cookbook feature and are enjoying it.

I love the cookbook feature, just found it from this team, thanks. I created one for my personal use to collect recipes but I just wanted to jump in and say that I was glad to see this discussion of copyright.

As an editor who works in print publications, I already feel great concern about the way copyright issues are disregarded all the time on the internet so I commend those on this team who are asking questions about this.

There's probably not a huge issue with sharing individual recipes THAT HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED (not just items people make up and freely post to share on the internet (even without citation, though that's nice but sometimes not available).

The problem would be more in compiling recipes into a collection and actually publishing it (gray area as to what publishing really means these days), even with citations and calling it a reprinted collection.

It's called "fair use" ... you can commonly make "fair use" of parts of copyrighted material in articles, reviews, etc., but you can't just take the whole thing and use it, even with a citation, unless you've specifically gotten permission from whoever holds the rights to it.

And though this principle is violated each and every day all over the internet, it's really the right thing to do.

I'm not talking about legitimate news services.

Anyhow, sorry to be so windy. I do love the cookbook feature as it will be fun for me to compile recipes for my personal use and add my own personal ones.

I do cook for only one and my favorite magazine for food is Cooking for One or Two from Taste of Home.

Pending life in progress.

I have the same concerns. What I do is add them to a cookbook, with "citation" information, i.e. what cookbook it came from, but I do NOT share with SP. I just put it in the cookbook. That way, to me, it's not like posting it on a board.

Since we're republishing cookbooks, I don't think there would be a problem with one or two.

Most of my low-cal recipes are from a few cookbooks or magazines. I know I can put these in for my personal use, but can they be in a shared cookbook without copyright issues?

I'll also try to devise some recipes that are for one or two instead of my usual batch style.

Well, I forgot to do the how many servings at first and then went back a changed it to 16 since it makes a gallon... so, yep the serving is one cup... I usually eat 2 cups at a time but I thought 1c would be a good standard size.

I made this one with less olive oil so it's really low calorie too.

Now that I've learned my way around the tool a little better, I think I'll make the Meditteranian again and revise the recipe.

Ahhh... yes. I've been there. Go to your Recipe Box. There you will find all of your recipes. To the right should be a tab to edit. You can click on the ingredient to edit it or delete it and then re-add it.

I need some help. I used your instructions to add a recipe. I couldn't add a couple of ingredients because I had to convert cups to grams and Tbsp to fl. oz. Now that I've figured out the conversion, how can I go back and edit a recipe so that the nutritional info is correct? Thanks-

I agree. I highly recommend adding recipes to your tracker. It helps keep me honest with myself.

Gail - you did great! The recipe is now in the Cooking for One or Two Team Cookbook. Just a hint on adding the link - at the top of the post box (next to Add an Emoticon) is a tab for Add a Link. Click here and put the URL there and it will make it a "clickable" link.

Sherle - I almost missed the recipe on the right! But, it's added now. I do something very similar! I do mine with a Thomas Whole Wheat English Muffin, scrambled egg (I wasn't sure I could fit it on the muffin but it fits), with 2 teaspoons fat-free cottage cheese mixed in the scrambled egg, and one ounce of Boar's Head Low-sodium ham (though I like MF Sausage patties and keep them in the freezer). I add a dab (truly, a dab) of peach preserves, basically because eggs upset my stomach.

Carol... just a suggestion: if you just want to access the recipes you personally use, make your own recipe book with just YOUR favorites. Also, when you use a recipe from the book, you can save to your own meal planner in the nutrition part of your personal SparkPeople stuff! Then everytime you eat a portion from your favorite recipes, you don't have to recalculate! i do this all the time. emoticon emoticon

I wish that when you did create a cookbook and move the recipes to it the recipe would appear only in the cookbook and not on the general list. My opening list is way too long

Hi All. I betting a lot of folks haven't created an SP cookbook yet. It's really not that hard. Sharing a recipe from your SP Cookbook is the preferred method for sharing recipes on the "Share Recipes" thread as it allows me to add them in the Cooking for One or Two Team Cookbook. If you just post a recipe, I can't add it to the cookbook, which means it will be harder for others to find the recipe later and they won't be able to add it to their meal plans.

To create your cookbook:

* Under Healthy Lifestyle tab, click on SparkRecipes.com
* Click on the "Recipe Calculator" tab at the top and enter your recipe. I admit, this does take of bit of entry, but it's worth it.
* Once it's created you have the option to save it to a Cookbook; please add it to your cookbook. You also have the option to add it to your meal planner. If this is a meal you have cooked or are planning to, I recommend adding it to your planner.
* Once you have added the recipe, post a link (copy the URL from the top) in the Share Recipe thread or post what cookbook it is in. I will then add it to the Team Cookbook.

You can also add recipes you find on the site to your cookbook for later reference.

Let me know if you have questions about creating your cookbook. I've got three of them now and have added several recipes I've gotten from various places in order to include them in my meal planner/nutrition tracker.
