I also added in a walk for the American Cancer Society this weekend - a small team from the gym is being pulled together. I've never walked with a team before, so this will be interesting. What's funny? I'm signed up for the virtual Trick or Treat Trot, but the first day for that ... is Sunday. The walk is Saturday. So no mixing the two.

Well, September's races are done. On to Oktoberfest and Turkey Trot. I might try to get out and watch the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathoners.

Right now I'm signed up for 1 Sept. Color Me Rad! 5k (counting as my August one - a day late =P ) and 22 Sept. Firefly run. Anyone else planning to walk these can look for me in the brisk walking group and wave!

Ouch, having to pass on the West Vally Dash of Hope. Turns out with the day and time (Sunday in the early hours), the closest public transportation would get me would leave a 3.8 mile walk to the starting line and a 3.8 mile walk back after the 5k.

I'll be doing the SP Virtual race before the end of July instead.

I did three 5k races in 2011, two real (Oktoberfest in Campbell, CA and the Turkey Trot in San Jose, CA) and one virtual race here on SparkPeople. I was out of commission for quite a while letting my foot recover after pushing my speed too soon caused me trouble.

Well, I'm back to walking that much distance with minimum trouble - and looking for 5k races that are either local or easy to get to via public transportation. My goal is to do at least one 5k distance every month for the rest of this year.

So, I've found a few so far. Already registered for the first. Later ones are under consideration, but could change. Anyone know of any others in the next few months - such as smaller localized ones (e.g. Willow Glen had one a couple months ago) - that might be worth looking into? I'm not picky other than needing to get there by bus/foot.
