I on the receiving end of an act this morning, while setting up our new tent at the market for the first time we were having all sorts of problems, a young man came over and offered to help. I have to say we would have eventually figured it out, but his kindness saved us much frustration.

The opportunity to do random acts of kindness are limitless and surround us 24/7. Call or visit a lonely person. Compliment someone. open doors. on and on. I'm definitely in on this one!

I never really considered this a random act of kindness until a friend of mine pointed out that she feels it is one. Every day while I'm driving I let cars get in front of mine. Sometimes I don't let people do it, like if they've waited until the very last foot before a lane of traffic is closing and there was plenty of warning and I'm tired at the end of my day, but most of the time I let them get in front of me. I leave room for people to merge, to come out onto the street from a parking lot, all of that kind of stuff. I figure some day they'll probably do it for me and other people have certainly done it for me in the past, and what the heck would I gain by NOT letting people merge. (Unless, of course, they pissed me off by waiting to the very last moment to merge when there were signs...) Life's just too short to stress out over whether or not another car wants to get in front of mine, except under my one previously stated piss me off situation.

There was much rejoicing!

What a great idea to publish this! I'll definitely think about what acts of kindness I can perform.

I take care of my mom's needs who is an invalid and bedridden on one weekend day every week. Although she's pretty much non-verbal now, I know she feels the love. My daughter is her caregiver most of the time. I am a blessed woman.

I go a food bank & divide the food up for people who need it. Took my sister-in-law with me yesterday. I went on an empty stomach, stomach growling & hurting, then ate some strawberries afterwards, but too fast & had the worst stomach pain later.
My sister-in-law gave me money & I was able to buy needed meat for my daughter & I.

Yesterday was a day of opportunity for kindness. I was out shopping in a hardware store and came upon an elderly gentleman who was struggling trying to reach something on a shelf a bit too high.. I simply walked over to him and asked if I could reach it for him. I did - and he thanked me and I went on my way. I had gone into the next aisle and suddenly heard a loud crashing - I quickly moved back to the elderly man, found him amid a pile of items that had fallen off the shelves when he tried to return the item 'he thought he wanted' to the shelf. He had not fallen himself but stood there in amazement and wonder on what to do next. I suggested he step aside while I pick up the displaced items and return them to the shelves. He was nearly in tears but with a wide smile on his face as we both went on to "Have a nice day".. emoticon emoticon

Made a batch of cookies and brownies and took them over to a friends house who's son is graduating this weekend. They are having a party for him this weekend and they both work. So, I thought I'd lighten the load of items that she needed to do.

Sandy, thank you for the kind comment on my page, and hopefully it applies to me even though I'm not really a nurse. I'm a lab tech in a hospital lab. Anyway, my act of kindness is only partly random. A coworker and I are going to take another one of our coworkers who has cancer out for lunch in the next couple of weeks. The random part is that we're not really able to plan exactly when we'll take her out ahead of time so I guess it sort of counts. I'll let you know if I come up with anything else in the near future. emoticon

What great ideas! Thanks everyone for sharing.
Random acts of kindness within a family are so great for building family unity! That will spread too, if happiness is in a home.

A neighbor is living part time here and part time a few hours away. I put her trash can out on trash day and put it up at the end of the day. I am not sure if she has a clue who does that or if she has even noticed but her an is never full and always has room for her trash when she is here. So having done that today thought that could be the place to start.

Hubby and I are pretty isolated out here in God's country, and most days we don't see anyone but each other. I wouldn't want to risk his being "kindnessed" to death, but we do have this thing we call "doing 'I love you'". Small acts done for the other person without getting caught, something to save them time or effort, or just something they wouldn't think to do for themselves. .

Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Housework done imperfectly still blesses my home.

Kindness is something that just 'fits' what I do every day. I always offer a hand up, open a door and befriend most people I come in contact with. I don't believe there is a day that goes by that I don't show respect and consideration for others. I have days that there is not an opportunity. I will try to meet and exceed my daily quota by going out of my way to perform something notable in the way of a random act of kindness. emoticon

What a great idea. I actually already started that list of Number 1.

I took a web design class and then I volunteered to make a website for the community I live in. I already thought of doing a page for emergency numbers and nearby parks and stuff like that. It looks pretty cool. It just has to go thru some approvals to become official. But I do try to give back and I think your ideas are valuable and on target with the good feelings it brings. Of course,(there are usually links for emergency numbers thru the city websites throughout the US). I get it, each fire dept has it's own area and there are some hospitals that are closer. I would also include perhaps a police non-emergency number, which can come in handy.

Here How it works - You do any of the following or make one of your own. Then come back and post it what you did. Then all I ask from you is to try to pass it forward to other groups to see if we can get more people to do the same.

How does that sound to all of you?

1. Say you have a new neighbor that moves in you would - Create a handy Contact list for your them including emergency numbers ( Hospital, Fire and Police dept.), important numbers(town hall, water and power company), and helpful referrals (like your plumber)

2. Say you have an Elderly neighbor or friend that is getting up there offer to type up all their Medication and Doctors on a list for them along with other important numbers (hospital, Fire and Police dept.), and Family numbers. Then you can tape it to the inside of a door where they can see it or make a nice little book that they can get to easily.

3. What about a child in the neighbor who may not have a lot and your child is not using some of their toys. How about cleaning some and taking it over and giving it to them. Or just leaving it as a gift as a Secret Friend.

Which ever one you choose or make up just remember that you are helping to bring a smile to a some and you are bighting their day. It will make you feel good too!

So, Come on and bring in that Sunshine to someone life I know that there are a lot of people out there that could just use a Smile! emoticon
