I better define my terms.
OB = obstetrician / a specialist who delivers babies. These are also a gynecologist, but not all gynecologist deliver babies. They malpractice insurance is cheaper if they don't deliver babies.
Some family doctors still deliver babies, especially in locations where there are not gynecologist available - towns such as the one I live in. We are an hour away from a larger city.
Four hours would be awfully far to drive for the kind of appointments we are talking about.

I am not sure how the Euro and US$ will buy.
But in my area, an appointment with any kind of doctor starts at $80. We have the kind of insurance with a huge deductible. I would have to be pretty sick for the insurance to ever start paying.

emoticon to the team. Sounds like you have problems similar to what we deal with in the US but not always the same solutions. I know here in the US we decided that 2 children were all that we could afford so even though I never got the daughter that I wanted we were happy raising our 2 sons and being able to do more for them. This became even more important when my husband was disabled in his 30's and I became our sole support so was even happier with our decision. But that is something everyone has to look at and decide on. My older son has 6 children! Go figure-he knew how tough things were for us but he doesn't think it could happen to him but like I tell him it can happen to anybody-I was widowed at 40 and know others who were even younger.

Welcome! From what I hear on the news, Greece is undergoing a lot of financial problems. I hope things improve soon.

i think you are doing great! i know that greece is in an even bigger financial mess than the USA is (we think!) so it can't be easy. please keep posting because i want to do some of the same things you do! i am older than you (i know because of the kids:) so i don't need the new clothes so much, but we in the USA sometimes think we're being frugal when we really haven't a clue. so you can clue us in! thanks again.

ob visits
what is that
if you meen my doc my genekologist
yes i do visit him every second month
about the free health care
i will not travel 4 hours to go to athens to see a doctor in a hospital
that doesn't know me to be free
and if i need a doc again , the hospital will give me any doc they have on hand
a doctor's visit costs 50-60 euros
any kind of doctor i need from baby doc to my doc
if you give birth to a clinic like i did when my daughter was born it cost us
1500 the doc plus 50 each visit
3500 euros the clinic at low low class of 8 beds a room

and i had to pay an other 3000 because baby was premature and had to be kept in the premy unite for a week
not in the unite but in the place were doc keep an eye out for them
my hubby was paying a hotel for a week
were was he to sleep
so it is not cheap

I always take some kind of travel mug with me in the car too - or a water bottle.

What surprises me about your post:
We American's are under the impression that any country that uses Euros has free health care. Apparently that isn't the case. With you having a history of a miscarriage, it concerns me that you are not planning to have OB visits. I understand the feelings about wanting another baby.

when i go shopping for grocery
the stores are pretty far ,
so most of the time about 85% of the time i bring a cup of coffee from home
i bought this plastic car cup about 2-3 years ago
best buy ever
bring coffee from home saves money when you are running erands and shopping
i need a pick me up
or if i was on an tight leave home take daughter to school i will buy a cup from the cheapest store 1.50 euros
i park the car in 3 difrent spots
the are always the same so,,,
and from there on i walk
can't expect me to carry 5-10 shopping bags of food and other things
i shop 2 times a week
we are 5 people
now for the good bad news
my store went like hell this year
might not even open this year
my hubbie has work not every day
the money is getting harder and harder
the good news is!!!!!
that i get some money from the goverment every 2 months because i have 3 kids
the amount is 500 every 2 months
i try to save 100 each time and put it in a secret savings account that i have
( ok ok it is stealing from hubby , kill me )
now i have 1100
nice , we are thinking of having an other baby
( we had a miscarige in summer, wasn't trying to get preg. it just happened, and we decided we want it back.)
but my hubby was thinking , the hospital costs 3000 euros
so i told him don't worry i've saved some money and that i'm not going to the clinic exept if it is an emergency
i will go to a public hospital
it is almost free
500 euros
so saving has helped
in the summer the year that passed i planted a tin can garden
tomatoes no good
but green peppers were good
picked allot and used them in store ( wasn't paying 3.50 euros a kilo)
saved some money there too
my pjs that i'm wearing are 5-6 years old
i got 4 pairs
why 4 ??? neede them for the hospital when i gave birth to my daughter
the hospital is 4 hours away from home
i think i'm saving what do you think
ok said and wrote allot
sorry
but it is nice way for you to meet me
love maggie

i thought it was just me or other people were doing the same
but no i was saving in places that most don't
not in greece anyways
i try to save on grocery bills
no coupons in greece
so i buy store brands
seasonal veggies and fruit
with one paycheck
we had 3 children
built a big house
started my bussines a pizza store a small one
got 2 cars
all that in 20 years
ok i still need to pay the loans
but we are working at it
the other places i will be trying to save is
on drying the clothes , no dryer after today
try to cut back and even stop smoking!!!!!!!!!!!
cut back on coffee,,, that will be a hard one
most of my clothes are old
but i do have 3 new dresses from 2010 that i bought from china stores ( very cheap)
my new boots for 2010 were from a china store too
lovely for only 15 euros
boots in other stores cost from 100 and over
so i think i'm saving here and there
