Pyrex changed their receipt because the materials they were using was too expensive. Europe has continued to use the old receipt and has continued to make it the same way. Any Pyrex made in the states after 1980 are not good. In the article it said that just by opening the oven to check on the food can cause the Pyrex to explode.
This happen to my Aunt at Thanksgiving this year. She had bought a severing dish that you put a tea light under the dish to keep the food warm and the dish exploded. Luckily no one was near it when it happened.
So, when buying Pyrex it is OK to buy Pyrex from England as they have continued to us the Original recipe.
For Ever Door That Closes There is Another Door That Opens
I put a Pyrex dish back on the shelf after reading the warning list. Here's the Pyrex link. "The Safety of Our Customers is Our Highest Priority," section lists the rules. I think it's scary that Pyrex can't take the gradual heat increase of a preheating oven. www.pyrexware.com/index.asp?pageId=3 0

Thanks for the article. I have pyrex and corning ware that is more than 30 years old. But I have some round pyrex that is less than 15 years old. The newer had blue lids with a white tab for venting. I would like to replace at least one of these lids, but have never been able to find a source. This newer product is etching in the dishwasher, where the older products don't. I think I purchased it prior to 1998.

I had posted this on Secrets and I wanted to share this with you. This article was given to me by my Aunt and I found it very interesting. I have Pyrex but, mine is very old. After this article I am going to start buying old pieces of Pyrex.
