I hadn't posted here, but I've been working on some goals this summer.
1. Tracking my food on Calorific (my phone app).
2. Keeping my foods in the Green/Great and Okay/Yellow ranges and trying to avoid the Red/bad stuff.
3. Walk most days. My husband and I have been walking almost every day about 4 miles.
4. More recently been trying to get back on track with posting here on Spark.
5. Get back with my Beck book.
6. I would like to expand my exercising to doing more stength and toning.

Thanks for the suggestions, Heidi. I am just not in a mode of really putting my mind on any of this. I'm all filled up with work things, and I never really got any kind of break this summer. I hope I will shift my attention soon, but right now, I'm just not in the right frame of mind.

(But with that said, I am still doing some things "right" so maybe I have learned enough to maintain. I need some energy back to let me make another push to lose. Just not today.)

Judi have you ever tried using the hunger scale? Combining that with portion balancing (like the new plate division from the USDA nutritional guidelines) can be pretty effective.


Well I am in the middle of my trip. No conscious exercise but so much walking around. I've been drinking (water) like crazy just to stay hydrated. At least an afternoon storm brought some relief from the heat.

I am not in the groove lately. On the good side, I did swim laps today! So that is very good. But my eating is just so-so. I have not been tracking, and I keep saying that I am going to "come up with another way" but I haven't had the inclination to think about it. I have a lot going on with my work. So, oh well, at least I am not eating a ton of food.

I hope you all are doing well on the summer fun challenge!

Well week two was a mixed bag. Eatingwise I went in the wrong direction 1985 avg cal/day!! Exercise wise, tho, I really pulled it off: an hour or more 4x, plus a 5th day of significant cardio, and including three days of strength.

Going for better eating and continued exercise this coming week

OK then! Chanl has inspired me. I was procrastinating because I wasn't sure what goals I could commit to doing, but what the heck. I'll just start with a few and add from there! I want to be in on the fun and challenge!

So, this summer, here are some goals:

1. I would like to weigh 180 pounds by September 1st. I don't usually put down weight goals, but I weighed 180 for months and months and months, and then I gained these five pounds over the last few months. I am tired of these pounds! So, losing 5 pounds in 9 weeks should be doable.

2. I will be actively attentive to my physical therapy to get my back to feel better. (This is another thing I am really tired of!)

3. I am going to make a decision about the upcoming school year. I need to decide what I am doing about teaching at the college and tutoring. I have several sub-decisions to make about the college, and all of this wishy-washy thinking is how my focus has been drawn away from taking care of myself.

4. I am going to check in on SP on my various teams just about every day. (This is a habit I have always had, but I want to say it outright and remember to keep in touch.)

So, those are my goals for summer:
1. lose 5 pounds
2. get my back feeling better
3. make decisions about my work
4. stay in touch on SP

Hey Moon!

I think I'm going to go real simple on my goals right now.

1 Review Beck Book
2 Try to reduce drinking soda to one time a week (I've done it before, I can do it again!)
3 Same with sweets. Pick a sweet and plan it in my day.
4 Walk 10 minutes a day.

Not great, but a good place to start building back up.

So because I made myself log and count my Monday mini binge, my avg calories for the week are pretty high for me : avg 1915cal/day

if I don't count Monday thats 1825 avg which is still a bit higher than I need for losing weight. So this week was a very very good step in the right direction. Usually when I've been over eating I need to step back down to my weight loss range.

Next week's goal is to get below 1775 for my avg cals.

I'm also very very happy with my exercise in the second half of the week. Starting this thread really helped me get back on board with that too

Well, I am not counting calories but I do need to set some goals. I need to get back exercising so that is my goal. I will exercise at least five days a week. I will keep track of what am doing right here. YAY!

WEEK ONE
Mon 6/27Week One Day One of 5K your way, 2 sets of 10 wall push ups
:Tues 6/28: WII baseball for 20 minutes
Wed 6/29: Week One day Two of 5K your way, 2 sets of 10 wall push ups
Thurs 6/30: 25 minutes of Dancing with the Stars DVD
Fri 7/1: Week One Day Three of 5K your way, 2 sets of 10 wall push ups
Sat 7/2: One of The Firm DVDs (35 minutes)
Sun 7/3: Rest

WEEK TWO
Mon 7/4 Week Two Day One of 5K your way
Tues 7/5 Slept in to long to get much done....did work on my push ups though
Wed 7/6 Week Two Day Two of 5K your way
Thur 7/7 WII boxing and tennis with dd
Fri 7/8 WII Just Dance with dd
Sat 7/9 Week Two Day Three of 5K your way

O.K. Summer thread this is.
Cal range : 1410 -1810
Pilates at least 4 days a week
walking 2 miles at least 5 days a week
meditation daily even if only for a few minutes
spiritual life daily
I hope this thread will provide me with the focus and motivation i need in order to achieve my goals for weight and attitude in the next 2 months.
emotional eating is a problem for me, i have to develop better strategies to cope with it.

So, I'll go first :)
I find myself losing focus sometimes in the summer and I need a place to keep myself accountable for my basic goals. For me that's logging food, staying in range 13/14 days and regular exercise. I'm going to set up a few weeks at a time and edit this post daily to record my behavior each day. For me, I find that setting behavior goals is the most effective way to lose weight.

I wasn't organized enough to begin this on a Monday, but I will pretend I did. You all can jump in whereever and whenever you want! (feel free to copy my layout here but you don't have to do it this way-- whatever works for you)

RANGE for me is 1650-1850

WEEK ONE
Mon 6/20 Cals: 2456 Stress eating No exercise
Tues 6/21 Cals: 1752 No exercise
Wed 6/22 Cals: 1847 Strength exercises: hips and upper body
Thurs 6/23 Cals: 1810 Two Miles Leslie; Yoga stretches for hips and back
Fri 6/24 Cals: 1793 Hilly 5K walk/race!
Sat 6/25 Cals: 1936 Recovery Day: No exercise
Sun 6/26 Cals: 1813 6 mile bike ride woo hoo!

What are your goals for the summer? Do you want to get outside and swim or sweat? Do you plan to eat more produce from your local farmers?
