This was a better week for me as well. No eating out, better food choices, strength and 5K training program on track. I usually bring raw veggies and dressing to work for lunch. Friday night, I set out a veggie lunch for Saturday. This is the first time I've tried this on the weekend and it was successful. I had a nutritious lunch and wasn't tempted to snack on other things.

We had breakfast with friends Saturday morning. I planned in advance what I would eat and knew it would account for most of my calories for the day. I planned to make a salad for dinner. We had a catered staff meeting at lunch today. I had 1/2 of a felafel sandwich, and boy did I want to go back for more. But, I ate what was on my plate (sandwich, tabbouleh salad and hummus) and didn't go back for seconds. That felt good. I told myself that I could always grab a leftover sandwich after the meeting. By the time the meeting was over, I didn't feel hungry any more and just walked away.

I am excited about what we accomplished the first week of our challenge!
We distinguished among hunger, cravings, and food desire 46 times!!
We overcame self-sabotage 42 times!!
We gave ourselves credit 71 times!
THIS IS FANTASTIC! LOOK WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED!!

Okay, this was a competition, so here's how the first week shaped up:
Steelers fans scored 129 points. Hooray!
Packers fans scored 163 points. Three cheers!
(This is based on 2 people per team. Id_Vandal needed to be excused because of work circumstances which prevented his competing with us as he originally planned)

NEW WEEK, NEW COMPETITION!

My original thought was to work on this challenge through the month of February. I am finding these particular targets helpful and would like to continue.

We have finished a week of February, so I will post totals late tonight. Tomorrow starts a new week of the challenge, new opportunity to score points for choices in the MINDGAME and the MUNCHING.

2 -Distinguish hunger from desire or cravings - maybe more, but twice I remember well
1 Catch a sabotaging thought - almost went back for seconds at the buffet, but NO CHOICE!
5 Give yourself credit - good strength training, good cardio++, good local SparkTeam meeting, good reorganization of Beck cards -- reading and applying Day 23, good healthy eating all day including buffet meal out, (also felt good about the way my stomach was feeling several times, but I don't want to get carried away here)

MUNCHING: Earn a point each time you do one of the following:
4 - Plan your food ahead of time - did it last eve; allowed 480 calories for buffet w/ 4 oz protein, multiple veggies, fresh fruit
4 - Eat mindfully while seated - 3 meals and a snack; not one bite standing today! Hooray!
4 - Follow your diet plan - 100%

So how did I do yesterday - well let's see

1 -Distinguish hunger from desire or cravings
0 Catch a sabotaging thought unfortunately missed badly here
2 Give yourself credit - I should be able to get more points here so this is an area to work on

MUNCHING: Earn a point each time you do one of the following:
1 -Plan your food ahead of time
0 - Eat mindfully while seated (oops)
0 Follow your diet plan I mostly did but I fumbled in the red zone so no points here.

4 points - 4 lousy points - Sorry team!!

This is a good exercise for me to regain some focus and really remember that eating is a decision we make everytime we put something in our mouth.

OK. This looks like a good challenge. I'll start tomorrow. My hubby is for the Packers, so I could be on that team. But if you need someone on the other team, I'm a flipping the coin type. Loyalty to my SparkFriends, especially those involved with Beck, is strong. Packers, no so much.

Join the competition: Packers fans vs. Steelers fans!

If you're ready for a challenge join one team or the other for 4 weeks of February!
(If you don't care about sports, flip a coin and join us anyway!)
Keep your own points as explained below.
Check in with a reply here at least every other day to post each day's total, including your team name, please.
I'll post score updates weekly, calculating adjustments for team size so it's a fair scrimmage!
