Week 2 Day 7 Arrange your environment. I've done pretty well with this one and it seems like a non issue for me. I can have "stuff" around for hubby and it doesn't bother me.

Week 2 Day 8 Create Time and Energy: I am stuck here. I don't like to plan but I will dive in because it is Beck's and I cannot sabotage myself and skip it. So I'm off to write in my current schedule and then to rework that schedule to formalize the day for planning and exercise. I'll let you know when I get done. Think positively BLW...

My congrats to you as well BLW - no weight gain is a great way to start the holidays!

I don't have much to report. I'm reading Beck's and trying to follow the rules but my gym time is nothing.

I have to make this a priority and just get it done otherwise it's just a bunch of words and we all know ACTIONS SPEAK - well you know the rest of it.

HOW GREAT that you have your daughter on board! I wish I could get mine to the place of acknowledgement, but alas, she's totally into denial. Her husband doesn't mind her heavy, so there you go. Nothing MOM says will have any effect!

Yeah, miss the lake-effect snow. (NOT)

It's 40 degrees here BUT the best part is that the sun shines brightly every single day. Students are freaked out by the "cold" and are dressed in gigantic coats and boots. CRACKS ME UP! I always ask them, "What are you going to do when it REALLY gets cold??"

Keep on shoveling! What great exercise!! And TOTAL congratulations on maintaining your weight. You are really make the most out of your retirement, and I'm soooo inspired. Six more months...

Good News!! Remember I said I would not weight in the week after Thanksgiving as that is cruel. I weighed Monday at I am at the same 156. That is a victory.

I am falling behind but doing good work. We are on a bay here and have been receiving lake effect snow since Monday. Over 20 inches so shoveling is my exercise every day and it is quite a workout.

Day 5; eating mindfully. I was encouraged to read Dr. Beck states "while this is a desirable goal, I've foudn most people just won't do this long term and you're bound to get distracted if you eat with other people and carry on a conversation." She then says try eating w/out distractions for just a few meals until you really master the skills of eating slowly and notice what you eat. Ahhh I feel better now.

Day 6, find a coach. I have that now; my daughter and I are coaching each other. This is a welcomed shift for me.

Stay warm and true to yourself today.

Boy did I need this reminder today! I have just been rushing through my days and my eating has NOT been slow or mindful.

I do better when I slow down so my focus for the rest of today and into next week is SLOW and STEADY!!

Here's to another good week for all of us!

Day 4:Give Yourself Credit
I gained new insight about how I've been tending to partition the credits in levels of importance instead of letting all truly count. I'll work to let a success be a success.

Day 5:Eat Slowly and Mindfully.
I saw so starkly how many of the sabotaging examples were mirrors of my thinking in this. I'm writing cards to approach my two main challenges with this -- continuing my recent improvements on staying mindfully centered when the family rushes through and jumps up, and gently coaxing some of our distracting family eating time habits out the door.

Day 4: Give yourself Credit.

I thought I was pretty good at this until I read and re-read Day 4. Giving/getting credit builds confidence. It is positive reinforcement. This is a big step towards being kind to ourselves. Our days are brighter when we are feel we are grasping a new concept or improving a skill set.

Not undeserved prattle but acknowledge our continued improvements and good work.

Eating while sitting was a huge breakthrough for me but I have been doing a little - not a lot but a little backsliding here.

We all know a little turns into A LOT after a while so this was perfect timing for me!!

Keep up the good work everyone!

The quiches sound interesting, Judy I look forward to hearing how they turn out.

December Beck
Day 3, Sit to Eat
This is the one I've faltered on in the past thinking if I wasn't perfect I 'couldn't' continue on ontil I got it. I get it now -- another sabotaging thought, right?

It felt good in re-reading all of the mindfulness aspects that are encompassed in this tip (stopping eating while cooking, grab-bys from the kitchen counter, nips of of kids' plates, etc.) to see how much I've improved.

My biggest challenge is still the sabotaging thought that I don't have time/opportunity to sit to eat with the little one running around.

Without giving myself an all-or-nothing out, my new focus on this is to look for ways to test that thought -- she's old enough to wait until both of our snacks are ready? is it really impossible for me to sit for this while she continues to play? are there simpler healthy eats to work in that cut on prep and eat time? prepare ahead in the mornings just as I would have for the office job?

Just in writing this the light is dawning!

My daughter in law showed me a great recipe for little individual quiches from South Beach. I watched her do them but I have not tried them yet. If they turn out good, I'll let everyone know!

My messaging has been inconsistent, too. The Judy tip helps to at least get to the 'new' stuff without having to go back out to the team menus.

December Challenge.
Day 1 Done - new short list made and posted, review plan identified

Day 2 Done - diet plan identified, continue working controlled carb plan logging onto SP. Fall back is to follow SP recommended diet guidelines.

Everyone seems to be off to a strong start!

Beck's December challenge
Day One - I rewrote my reasons and blogged about the first two and thanks for the kind remarks. I also liked FF's blog about just doing a few and adding to them to keep it fresh.

Day 2 - Pick a diet. I've already done that - South Beach but I haven't really followed it too closely so now, for this challenge, I am going to tightened that up. Again however if I make it too rigid I won't follow it so there is a balance in there that I will find.

Hope you all have a great day 2!!

Helpful hint about not seeing posts. This happens to me sometimes. I used to just post my next one but as you said, sometimes I am writing something different than I would have written if I had actually seen the posts!

So, I found out a good way to make it update. Go to one of your previous posts and edit it. Just add a space or something, and when you post that, all the other ones will show up!

Sparkfully Yours, Judi

Hey TG, hope this comes through to you. Testing, testing. Do we just want to use this location for working thru our Beck days together??

Day 1 - done. New AR cards and posted reminder notes. Added it to Other Goals in under My Tools Tab so I can't forget it. Set it up in my email with twice a day reminders.

Why can't I see anyone's new postings unless I post? The last one I can see is Vandal's, but my sparkpage tells me BLW left a comment and Judi Cutie. Now I'll press "post message" and hopefully not look like an idiot.

Hi Team,
There is talk of letting a new topic become sticky instead of this one. So keep your eye on the list and see which one you want to follow.

There is already one for making Nov/Dec count. There might also be a new one...

You weren't the caboose, just the only show on the road. I'm checking in at 156 the same old weight. I'm not complaining about that as my goal is to maintain over Thanksgiving.

We have cold, cold and flurries; no accumulation. I think dogs and children help us to find the joy in the flakes. Old minds tend to see work in the flakes.

Soo, I thought I was going to be the caboose for this week but no other posts?

My scale stayed the same this week, but Mother Nature had her hand in that, too. I've been eating On Plan to a T, steady hydration, and increasing exercise. My clothes feel a little looser, but not going to measure until next week.

Hope you're all staying strong and ready for a healthy and relaxed holiday!

Nearly a foot of snow here yesterday, very rare for us to have any this early in the season -- having a blast playing with and watching the kids enjoy it!

Wow Such - that is good information about the google thing. I would never have thought that.

I don't know why because it does make sense but still something to keep in mind. I think I'm going to go remove a few of my blogs and maybe just make it a habit to clean them all out once a month or so.

Sorta takes some of the fun out it by not sharing too deeply.

Hey Gang!

Congrats TG and FF! Way to go on both counts! FF, I'm glad you have found something that makes you feel better! I'm the same this morning.

I mostly wanted to tell you guys something that you may already know...it was brought up on my BLC team. If you google your screen name you will be brought to your SP page and all of your public blog entries. From the big wide internet. It is not all that surprising, I s'pose, given it is a fee site and open to the public. I had just never thought about it. It leaves me a little uncomfortable right now.

The chances of someone googling your screen name are probably not that great, but anyway....
A lot of folks here (on SP) have a lot of personal/identifying information. I removed some of my pics last week just because. Oh, well, like I said, you may already know it, or it may not make any difference, but I thought I'd mention it.

I have my family coming next week and still ahve quite a lot to do in the house. Looks like my wallpaper stripping and painting may not get finished. :( One does what one can!

Have a great week, guys! Keep on rockin'!

ps...if it concerns you, if you set your page to private, it should block the google thing.

CONGRATS TG! I can't wait to cheer your win in that showdown.

Down 6 and approximately 3 inches. Very excited, even counting that much of this was water weight from starting the low-carb regimine.

Last week I was also able to exercise more with no kickbacks, WooHoo!

I'm heading back in the RIGHT direction with a full head of steam. Watch Out!!

Thanks TG, nice to have you back. Hoot and Nancy have been keeping me motivated.

Retirement definitely allows me to manage my time differently and I can focus more on my needs. I promise to maintain empathy for those who struggle so hard juggling the demands of the working world.

There's a bit of pressure though. Forever I was able to blame not being able to dedicate myself to the effort. Now what excuse do I have?

Oh No, now what?? emoticon

HOOT, still glad you are in the game. BLW, Wow, you are an inspiration. I cannot WAIT until I retire. May 2011. (But don't tell anyone, it's a secret!!)

I'm hanging in at 162; it apparently is my new "set point". But I'm grateful, since originally I was at 184, 162 is a huge improvement. While I definitely want to be better, I'm so PROUD I'm not where I used to be.

Later, everyone!

I'm glad to see the 'light' still on here. I'm ready to get my head back in this and body to follow. Including those gratifying chores completed sounds like a great way to help refocus attention to the positive and balanced accomplishments.

Morphing Halloween to Thanksgiving decorations today (lots of cross-overs here) and planning what to cook/do for date-nite in tomorrow evening for our wedding anniversary.

BLW, you've been so busy! Those kinds of things are next on my list. I'm anxious to get to them. I enjoy the mornings also. Not 4:30 though. That's when I woke up this morning. I'm really looking forward to some good sleep tonight!

Do you color the days you meet your goals or what?

Hopefully some more of our buds will be back soon! I know TG hasn't gotten blown away, we haven't had any bad weather lately!!

Hey Hoot, I've been doing a lot of fall chores too but no new windows. Raking, gardening, sorting clothes, cleaning closets and some painting. Part of me is enjoying just letting my day lead me but another part of me is thinking of going back to an alarm. I like getting a head start on the day and I like the quiet alone time getting up early brings to me.

Today I weighed in at 156 - again. I have set up a perfect day for Tuesday. Then I'll tackle
Wednesday in the same way. I have gone back to a paper calendar to color so that I have a visual.

My goal is to lose 6 pounds by the end of November. emoticon

I'm here BLW!
Let's not let us fall apart completely! Even if we don't go with an official challenge, I surely do enjoy keeping up with everyone.

I've been busy with window installation. Whew. Going pretty wellm but I will certainly be happy when it is all complete!

Are you getting used to less structure in your day now that you aren't going to work every morning? I have found I actually get a lot more done when I work part-time at least. I tend to put things off because I always have tomorrow. Me and Scarlet!!

Hi Heidi! Welcome!

We are kind of in limbo right now. We're open to any suggestions, I'm sure.

Tracking sounds good. Another team I'm on is going all out for the next 7 days. We're falling off a little and losing our motivation. So...we are exercising and tracking everything.

Something else I was going to mention to you guys is a 100 push-up challenge, a 200 sit-up challenge and a squat challenge. I'm not doing the squats. Here are the links. They have a program to get you from wherever you are to one hundred. Worth a shot.

hundredpushups.com/index.html

Food for thought, gang! What else is anybody thinking?

Hi guys-- I came looking for a challenge and thinking about starting one for Nov/Dec to get through the travel/holiday season... I see you have one that is winding down here? I don't want to jump in and start a new one if you have plans to continue or reboot so I thought I'd check in here.

The challenges I've done here in the past were places for everyone to state a goal (personally I want a place to track/be accountable for my daily calories) and track that goal.

Let me know what you think/are planning. I'm happy to join you or start a new thread.

Congrats, Vandal! Down 2 pounds is great, I think, especially with all the stress and travelling!

TG, I'm pretty sure it's just your body responding to your awesome walk this weekend!! It'll level out.

I didn't weigh this morning. I will on Wednesday. Let's think about the next 5 weeks and what we can to as a group!

I'm up, but I'm not telling how much! HOWEVER, I'm going to start today to try to figure out how to get away from this "all or nothing" thinking. I feel strong and excited about a new beginning. Vandal, congrats on the 2 pounds. It's an excellent start.

Hi everyone! Not much to report - down 2 for the week. I thought it would be more with the South Beach and all - oh yeah that would mean I would actually have to follow it exactly. Well I was close but no cigar as they say!!

Better down than up.

What are we going to do to recharge this group and get a good but doable challenge in place for the month before Thanksgiving??

Hey Gang, as you know I have been busy planning. I also have been worried about the upcoming holidays. I hoped to simply maintain my loss then I realized I was giving myself permission to not move forward and that is not acceptable!! I have adopted so many new healthy habits I just need to keep on.

Well as I was exploring and planning, I found a new Spark Team and I just know you will all Love it!! There are approx 25 members but the group is well prepared and as you can see from their name, Hold The Stuffing, they are addressing all the key issues that were worrying me. Take a look and come on board. emoticon

Hey Sparkbuds, I'm weighing in today at 156. Yea for me, down 1.5 and closer to my end of the month goal of 154.

I like this easy check in site and think we need a boost of new energy.

Thanksgiving will need a plan. None of us need to take a step backwards because of it.

Just curious - are we all done with this challenge?

I think we probably are but we have such a good group I wonder if we can find something to challenge us to get us from here to Dec. 1 (something to carry us through Thanksgiving? Or should we just let it die?

Hello from the woods of Northern Michigan. Yesterday we raked acres of Maple Leaves; 5hours of non-stop raking = 1410 calories burned!! Today we are moving quite slowly but once we get moving it feels better.

No way in for me this week but I feel strong after shingling and raking.

TG, do you have to dance with a rose in your teeth? Don't get stuck with a thorn! Have fun.

Hi Everyone,
had a great LONG weekend camping and threw the beck rules out the window as well. We have the 1/2 marathon in less than two weeks so time to get focused for sure! AND, I joined a zumba class which ought to be quite a sight since I am totally uncoordinated. I wonder how I'll manage to injure myself with this new endeavor? Fall through the plate glass mirror? Trip over my own feet and get a concussion? Will keep you informed!

Congrats, Lite! Three pounds is fantastic!

Vandal, I'm with ya! You mean we have to do this more than one week to make a dent. Dang!! I'm really glad you had a wonderful visit with your family. That is good stuff!

I'm weighing on Wednesday so won't do Monday's. I thought I would just do both, but it throws my brain wonky. I'll still be here though! Waiting to hear how everyone is doing!

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a good week. I do know one person that did not and therefore he is not getting on the scale today.

I actually had a wonderful week with my family but I didn't really spend anytime thinking or following my Beck's rules. I wasn't over the top bad just not focused like I should be and I can tell I've added rather than subtracted.

This upcoming week will see me back in the race!

I-SAW-THE-LITE, as I was drinking my coffee I read your Dieter's Prayer and almost sprayed my screen.

As far as this friendly competition goes, it is based on the percentage of weight loss. You post your starting weight and then post your loss the following Monday.

As Vandal said this is to "MAKE IT HAPPEN for you."
I'm not posting my weight, but I am lurking and doing my own challenge this month of being consistent with exercise.

Enjoy!

Expect Success

Looks like you folks have been pretty active while I've been playing with my grandson.

Here's my welcome to FitJane and I-Saw-the-Lite!!

To I Saw (I shorten everything) welcome. This is a fun group and the challenge is all about getting us focused on a weekly basis to see who can be the biggest loser for the week! Then the winner gets a spark goodie from the rest of us!!

We don't follow a particular program - just whatever works for us - plus you have to have FUN with this and just MAKE IT HAPPEN for you.

Gotta run.

Hi Gang!
We have fallen off a bit, haven't we? I think it's because we are too busy burning calories! Congrats on the losses TG, BLW & Nancy! I'm down 3 pounds today!

Welcome FITJANE! We are fun if not super consistant with our posting!

I stopped getting notifications from SP...so I thought. They were being routed to my spam folder. I went there looking for something from Girl Scouts and found them!! Lost all of my blog subscriptions, etc. Oh, well. I will catch up with everyone soon!

Hi FitJane!
We would love to have you! We went super-strong for awhile but have kind of fizzled on the challenges. BUT I'M READY TO GO!

I only have about 15 pounds until goal but you'd think it was 1500 the way I've been dragging my feet.

Our normal weigh-ins are on Monday (for those who want to do that). Check in as desired!

What happened to your Beck team??

Hi Everybody,
I just read through all the posts and this sounds like a fun thread. If it's ok I'd like to join.
I miss my Beck team. I understand there are weigh in and non weightloss goals. I am in for both. My NWLG (NSV) is to get more consistent with my exercise. It has been rather hit and miss.

Weighed in at 157.5 last night. For some strange reason I weigh less at night than in the morning. That is opposite of what the "masters" tell us.

I am on my way to my October goal. I have to focus on right here, right now. I have to maintain this and then lose again. I finished my strength training video and I'm off for a long walk in the sunshine. emoticon emoticon

WOO HOO! Made my goal of 159.5 by the end of September!

I wanted to record it for posterity so got TC's camera, jumped back on the scale and....160. Jumped off, hit reset, got back on....160. Realized that the TEENY TINY DIGITAL CAMERA was throwing me up 1/2 pound!!! So back on the scale nekkid, let it display 159.5, jumped off, and snapped the winning photo!!!
