Now we've had a chance to warm up our muscles for the May challenge! Please join us on the "May challenge: Add and Subtract" thread on the Goals Forum of this team! This time we'll be giving ourselves CREDIT for good runs of choice & change . . . after all, Beck is about getting BACK ON TRACK RIGHT NOW!!!

I am very happy that I got through all 24 days of this challenge without any Coca-Cola, sweet tea, or other sweet drinks. I can really see the benefits in how it affects my overall choices for each day.

I did not sustain my target habit of pre-planning my food. Soon I will begin that again, but many obligations press right now and I do not have a brain cell to invest on that. I only lost one pound during the Tweak; I will maintain until I can start planning and tracking again.

We have learned so much in this challenge, haven't we?!! Several have suggested doing this same challenge next month, so I'll plan to post a new thread on April 30. May Challenge: Add and Subtract!
(Add one habit; subtract one habit)

I have forgotten to pre-plan my food for several days. I want to do this to be my habit to ADD again in May because I know it helps me at this stage.

I am thrilled to have a 21-day streak on extinguishing the habit of sweet drinks. I would not have believed I could go 21 days without Coca-Cola, sweet tea, or frozen coffees. I'm considering continuing it to really cement the improved trend.

Choosing habits to extinguish or establish during April is a commendable undertaking. Please give yourselves credit for those steps! Thinking through it is beneficial, and it helps us, any degree of movement at all in those new directions!!

I want to announce that I HAVE HAD NO COCA-COLA OR SWEET TEA for 11 days. Whew!!! This is tough!! I've had no other sweet drinks either, but those are the 2 that strain my determination. As a family we have stopped buying soda pop at all, but tonight one 2-liter came with a birthday-party pizza package and I had to NOT EVEN LOOK AT IT. I am praying this consistency will help me break my plateau.

Planning food ahead = 12 day streak

OKAY GANG ---- WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THIS CHALLENGE! This is a good time to pick up steam for the second half, if it's been a rough road up 'til now. As Beck says, I CAN START OVER AGAIN THIS MINUTE!!!

Shopping - back to zero - I hate it when that happens. NEVER GO TO THE STORE HUNGRY!

+This is not such agony any more, but I still have to be careful. Staying away from temptation.

Establish prior food planning = 8 day streak as of 4/13
+I'm making myself do this each night. Maybe some day it will be second nature . . . This process definitely makes a huge difference in my staying on track each day.

I'm joining a bit late, will start tomorrow. While I know the ultimate best is to plan all meals the day before that is too big of a push for me and often my evening plans go awry for some reason or another. Working late, family dropping in, hubby suggesting something different etc. So if I at least plan the MEAL before I eat it, that is a step towards control.

Strength training I think is important as you build muscle & muscle burns more calories at rest. You will burn more calories sitting in a chair if your muscles are toned vs not toned. I like the look that toning brings and I like feeling stronger. Since this is a daily challenge I will train daily but alternate upper body/lower body with situps and backflexion daily. emoticonemoticon

Okay - I'm here - good idea of posting this on the Beck's team site.

Anyway here's mine:

Habit to establish: Focus on major projects at work between 9:00 and 11:00 - no interruptions. I know that doesn't sound food related but with my work stress it will help believe me!

Habit to extinguish: Mindless shopping - I will buy only what I will eat and I will buy only products that are good for me (no chips, beer, and as much fresh as I can).

Freelady that sounds great. My goal would be April 29th when I will be 63 and I have not accomplished any of my goal for then. Well maybe I will go for the 40th. April 29th is also my 43rd Anniversary and we are going away and to a dinner theater.

Habit to Extinguish: Not following diet plan.

Habit to Establish: Planning food the prior evening and staying with program. Get that Beck Book out again.

Here's a challenge for whatever part of April you have left:

TWENTY-FOUR DAY TWEAK
(April 7-30)

a) Extinguish one habit
b) Establish one habit

Mine would be a) April streak of NO sweet drinks
(soda, sweet tea, caramel latte) Another example is no alcohol, or no twinkies during the late news, or no eating the kids' leftover plates . . . you pick a habit to challenge!

b) April streak of EACH DAY'S menu planning, or reading Beck Diet Solution cards, or daily cardio, or always sitting down to eat . . . or your choice of a healthy habit to start a streak!

If you're a person who likes the accountability of reporting on a forum, you can track your streak here. I'll post a sample . . . you can share any way you like, or even be a silent partner with us!
