Cindi, thanks for sharing that about your husband. I have been working on narrowing down the names of people who can diagnose this for me. I have two leads.

I'm glad that you are getting down to business on your goals. Being truthful with ourselves is a huge key, isn't it?!

Judi: My husband has been on meds for ADHD and depression. This week he went to a new psychiatrist for a med check. The psychiatrist increased his antidepressants significantly and told him not to worry about the ADHD meds for the time being. My husband told me this morning he can't believe how good he is feeling and how focused he is. So, you might be right.

Working on my goal of tracking and being truthful. Also, working on portions. Now I'm home for the weekend. We'll see if I can keep this going.

There is a new thread for setting specific goals in January and February 2010, and for reporting on your progress. Feel free to go over there to put any goals you want to track.

We can still keep posting here if we want to just talk about our thoughts on some goals and are not feeling like re-posting about them regularly.

Something for everyone!

It' great seeing all the goals!

I do not disagree about ADD. I just feel like if I can define what is going on in my mind, I can choose the best strategies. I am not sure I am a person who will need medication. But for years, I have been on an antidepressant for "anxiety", but what if that anxiety is really ADD? Maybe I can swap one medication for another. We'll see .... (And I am passionate about Math too!!!!)

Short term goals (3 per month):
1. Clean out my junk box (we moved in Nov.) which should have been done already.
2. Finish loading my cd's onto my computer.
3. Begin the P90X exercise/eating program (beginning on Monday of next week).

Long term goals (for the year).
1. Get under 200 pounds.
2. Go to church at least once a month.
3. Hopefully get engaged.

Hi there -- my goals for this year include:
Getting closer(if not to) my healthy weight by the end of the year
Organizing my house better and get rid of unused and unwanted items
Read at least 50 books for the year(I have done it before I can do it again)
Up my average daily steps to 15,000

A side note about ADD:
I have read a lot on ADD also because both my kids were diagnoised with it and I am sure I have that kind of thinking also. Here is my two cents on the subject that I know is not real popular but the more I read on it the more I am convinced that it is more a different way of processing information than an outright "disorder" and the real trick is to learn how to deal with that type of thinking in a society that is tuned to a different style -- one author calls it "the hunters vs the farmers" where "the hunters" represent the ADD personality. Janet Weiss has written a book called A.D.D. and Success which covers people who have embraced the characteristics of their way of thinking and are in every way successful. No offense to anyone -- I am just passionate about this topic(like I am about Math also) and had to comment.

By the way both my kids were on meds but both have taken themselves off of them and they are doing fine emoticon

Thanks for the ADD info Cindi. I am doing a lot of reading, and I know I will want to add that website to my list.

I hear you about how hard it is to get moving on the health appointments the longer you have been out of the loop.

Judi: Glad to hear that you made your appointments. As someone who works with and also lives with persons with ADHD I'm glad you made your appointment to talk about your ADHD. If its getting in the way of your daily living, you need to get it checked out. Also, have you ever looked at ADDitude Magazine? You can also find them online at www.additudemag.com . They have a lot of information about daily living with ADHD. One of the best resources out there.

I haven't done much about my appointments. I have moved so much and its been so long that I'm not sure where to start.

I called and made all of my health appointments: the dentist, the gyne, the internist, cardiologist, and I have a call in to the psychiatrist (who I don't see anymore but I want to talk to him about ADD.) Oh yeah, and my new knee doctor. I really got on the phone and set it all up!!!

My husband is also not someone who goes for these kinds of discussions. I try to get him to "look at his life" and "think about his priorities" and so forth, and he gets this glazed over look in his eyes. I think it is fascinating! But he doesn't!!!

I like the goals that involve the husbands. I think as we get older, we will do better if our goals give us more to do together. My DH and I are learning to dance (again). At times, I do not feel in sync with him, but when we are dancing, it does help!

One goal I have no control over is that the 3 pending gas wells in our area will be done and active I will be able to retire sooner.

I guess my job goal of working from home, was my last goal for work.

My DH and I want to get more exercise. We got a WiiFit for Christmas and need to use it. Also the Total Gym and Eliptical we already have.

Just to feel better about ourselves, health, exercise and relationshp wise.

REMEMBER: I have had this before. I know what it tastes like, AND ITS KILLING Me ! IS IT REAL HUNGER OR HEAD & HEART HUNGER?

Does anyone have any non-diet related goals? For example, I am trying to become really proficient at Statistics so I can tutor in that subject without always feeling like I am looking up everything.

Also, my DH and I are trying to get better at Ballroom Dancing!

Anything like that? Any job goals? Any relationship goals?

Oh Heidi, you do have quite a year ahead of you. I am not sure if I ever found out what subject you teach. (I'm a math teacher.) If I asked before and forgot, please forgive me and tell me again! And the idea of getting a child is quite amazing. When that comes through, you will have all kinds of great free advice here from all of you Beck friends who raised kids. (And you already know that we are "your kind of people" so ask us anything!)

2009 was a great year for me in terms of getting control of my eating and actually losing weight in a way I feel I can maintain. My weight loss goals for 2010 are to lose another 30 pounds and adjust to that weight and the eating and exercise to maintain it.

2010 is going to be a year of change as well. My school will announce their decision on my re-tenure case in the spring and then I either will be unemployed and writing full time to finish my book OR dealing with the new responsibilities of being an Associate Professor So my goal is to take care of my self emotionally during all of this, to focus on stress-reducing activities, which includes staying physically healthy with my eating and activity

Goals for 2010:
1. Stick to my plan
2. Perform at the Las Vegas Belly Dance Intensive festival.

I might add more later but those are the two biggies right now.

Nice place and time to start thinking ahead...

For 2010?
DH is due for a kidney transplant - my biggest goal is to support him through this as best I can. Perhaps even by giving him a kidney! So far, I'm a match. So my goal is to be as fit and healthy as possible so that I can fly through the donor-surgery and recupe fast.

in 2010 - I will settle into the habits necessary to maintain at 145-150 for life.

in 2010 - I will set short term (3 month?) exercise goals to keep it fun.

in 2010 - I will complete 4 semesters of science.(And I want "A"s, dang it!!) I need to finish my lower level sciences so I can apply to the U for the exercise science degree.

2010 - here we come!!!

Hi Team,
This thread is going to be a sticky topic where people can post any goals that they want to post.

We can use it right before a certain time of year. We can use it for eating goals. We can use it for exercise goals. I am making this a sticky topic so we can look back at the goals that come and go over time. (We used to have thread with goals for a certain month or a certain holiday, but let's put it all here until it gets too big!)

I am going to start the ball rolling with some of my 2010 goals:
- Continue to lose weight - maybe another ten in '10.
- Get a website up for my math tutoring business
- Continue exercising regularly
- Enjoy my wonderful family - appreciate every encounter!
- Make a dent in the CLUTTER - this is huge!!!! I hope I do it!!!
- Figure out if anything can be done about my knee

Anyone have anything to say? Feel free to share!
