Asics have been a good fit for my wide feet in the past. However the last pair I got turned out to be Nike Air...they beat out the rest, and I really shopped around, trying on many different brands and styles. Plus JCPenney's had a great sale, they were reduced down to $40...cheapskate to the fore! :-)

I know many have recommended New Balance, but for whatever reason I found them to be clunky in their feel and passed them up.

GL in your hunt...let us know what you pick!

Don, I am with you on being to cheap to buy sneakers. I used to own sneakers for years. I have now had my sneakers for about 8 months and am just starting to get blisters on my toes.....think it is time for some new sneaks! anyone have a good brand to buy. I would just get running shoes. I do the treadmill and elliptical, but figure running shoes would be fine for the elliptical. My feet are wide so I am having a hard time finding shoes!

Cross trainers are designed to give support for both forward and lateral movement. On a treadmill, there is only forward movement.

Well, I'm a pretty half & half kinda treadmill user, half walk (4 mph) half jog (5 mph)...so...is that a case where "cross" trainers might be better than either walking or running shoes...?

Wow, this shouldn't oughta be QUITE so complicated...?!?! :-)

Leanne's answer says it all. Three of my children were runners and it seems all I did was buy them new shoes.
Also, if you use the shoes mainly for running on the treadmill, you'll want shoes for running, not all purpose shoes.

I just had a thought. I don't have a clue if it would work. You can get birkenstocks made for your feet and that would save your toe nails at least. I have coverage for one pair per two years.

I would (if it was me) to find out about your toenails and blisters.

All Success, let me know if anything works. I hope it does ((or you are going to end up doing laps in th pool)

Leanne

P.S. If you are ever stuck for an answer for a spinal condition (or nutritional) I do have personal contacts. Have a great week. I hope everything works out. Do not hesitate to ask if you need a question investigated. It may cost me a glass of wine (but who wants to drink alone anyway).

Thx so much Leanne...will have to try some of these tips. I typically rack up 20-22 miles a week...at least when I'm not sidelined by blisters and sore toenails...!

The "old" me would look for at least a year or two out of my sneakers...but then I guess when one is building a *new* lifestyle there are more things that need changing BEYOND diet and exercise!

Here is the info I found:The idea of having two pairs soundslike a good one. Iwish I could run but years of competitive gymnasics has made that not an opiton. I have a stationary ,and a regular bike and everything you need (which isn't much. I can't use my stepper a lot but due when I can.

Hope this helps (even a little) Shoes can be as expensive as someother equipment.

Opps,I missed copying the first part. I have done it in it's entirety

Running Shoe Replacement Tips
• Track your mileage. After 350-550 miles it's time for a new pair. For runners who log 25 miles per week replace your shoes every three to four months.
• You can check for signs of wear on the sole by placing your old shoes on a table and looking at them from behind. If the soles are worn and leaning to one side, the midsole cushioning is probably worn as well.
Spotting Midsole Wear
A shoe's midsole cushioning may be worn out long before the tread shows signs of wear. Because the bottom and tread of the shoe may look fine, identifying when the cushioning is shot isn't easy to do. Here are some tips for identifying midsole wear:
• First, pay attention to how you feel. As your shoes begin to give out, you may begin to get some aches or pains in your bones and joints. You may also notice slight muscle fatigue, new tightness, or possible shin splints.
• Look for creasing of the midsole material in areas of high load (under the heel or the ball of the foot). A worn out midsole will have wrinkles and creases there.
• Try to twist the shoe. A worn out midsole will allow the shoe to twist more easily than a new shoe.
• Try on a new pair of the model that you are currently wearing. Compare this to your current shoes. If the cushioning in your shoes feels dead in comparison, it probably is.
Consider Rotating Shoes
If you run frequently it's a good idea to have more than one pair of shoes. Think about buying two pair at a time (or buying a second pair about midway through the life of your first). Add the new pair in to your shoe rotation when your "old" shoes have about 200 miles on them. If you use two pairs of shoes you should still track mileage per shoe, and replace each after it has 350-550 miles on it.

300 miles...?!?! Wow! That would mean a new pair for me every 4 months or so...? Blows my cheapskate mind...lol!

Going to have to research this...how does one know when sneakers are "worn out"?

Im sure you have thought about this; but has anyone checked you spine allignment. A good pair orthtics may help. I'm no expert. I just know that they have made a big difference.

Just got a new pair this past November, which haven't given me any problems until now. I'm really scratching my head over this one...! Can't imagine I'd "wear out" a pair THIS quickly...! I'm hardly a long-distance marathon runner...!

Going to see if I can catch up with a local sports doc, as I haven't been happy with my podiatrist...grrr! Two of my other toes are black under the nail...dya suppose it's possible just to have them all pulled so they can't be such a nuisance???

Woo hoo...! Around our office we have a "Catch a Shining STAR" incentive, in which we can "turn in" an employee who is doing something noteworthy and give details on why.

Well a couple of colleagues "nailed" me and wrote up the following: "Don is an inspiration to the Team and whole wing of this building! His discipline and perseverance with his diet and amazing weight loss and continued health regime give hope to all who know and work with him."

Talk about making my day! :-)

Keep spreadin' the Spark out there folks...one never knows who's paying attention!
