Hi Suzi, Thank you for letting us know about the registry. I went to the site to see what it was about and was pleased to read that it is run by two researchers I work with on the Diabetes Prevention Program (which promoted lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes). Congratulations to you! I hope one day to join the study too.

And very much agreed, re: motivating by example. I have known many clients for many years and they have known how large I have been in the past and are amazed over my accomplishments and I tell them that they can do it too if they wish.

One little "secret" I have for maintenance - I joined a research group. The National Weight Control Registry www.nwcr.ws/ is gathering a list of people willing to participate in research who have lost 30 or more pounds, and maintained that loss over at least 1 year. :) Promote and participate in research that shows others that YES, you CAN lose weight and keep it off, and here's how we did it! :)
I would also add that nothing has motivated my friends and family to start their own healthy lifestyles like sharing my success. Too many people I talk to really don't believe its possible for an ordinary person to reach and maintain a healthy weight. They don't start because they don't think it'll work. Knowing it worked for at least one person is a huge help.
