Thank you for posting the site - I have downloaded and will print up the receipe part to have handy to create some menus.
I wish there were a class closer. I don't think it is that people need to be taught how to cook whole foods, it's that they need to be taught how to cook. I was taught by my Grandmother for several dishes, but the German diet wasn't exactly Vegan.

Do people really to learn how to cook with whole foods? I mean, go back 100 years and that's all we had. The only "processed" foods I buy are cereal and even these are all whole grain. Is cooking with fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables really that difficult? I think it's a sad commentary on our civilization as a whole that we need to be taught how to cook with whole foods.

Am I missing something here?

You can order or download the booklet that they give out at the classes on the website. It is 148 pages. I got mine. Go get yours. :)

Watch your actions;
they become habits.
Watch your habits;

This is such a great thing! I wish there were classes close to me, they're all in southern Michigan.

My DH is a cancer survivor. He had a rare form of cholangiocarcinoma or bile duct cancer. He had part of his stomach, pancreas, small intestines and liver removed along with his common bile duct and gall bladder. The procedure is called an Extended Whipple. He has a lot of digestion problems and eating can be a challenge for him sometimes. I have to cook high protein and sometimes high calorie meals for him. And nothing greasy. A cooking class for cancer would be fantastic! Wish there was more of this kind of thing in my area.

It's not just a matter of fitting a city into the schedule; there has to be someone local who is qualified, trained and willing to offer the service.

Talk it up! The Cancer Project is currently recruiting new instructors, for a training session to be held this spring. Applications are being accepted until April 1. If you think there is a need, maybe you could find someone willing to take the training.

I'm surprised there is nothing in Pittsburgh. We have a huge community of hospitals and medical research, and unfortunately, a lot of sick elderly people. Maybe they're working on fitting us into their schedule.

Darn! Nothing close to my house. I'd love to take the class with my husband. Both of his parents have had cancer, and he's hitting his mid-forties. I worry about him.

They are training a new batch of instructors later this spring. Apparently there are some cities that they've targeted, but I don't know what they are. We may find new locations sooner rather than later.

The Cancer Project, an affiliate of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, offers free whole foods cooking classes around the country. Although the focus is helping cancer patients, you do not need to have cancer to sign up.

The course ran two hours a week for eight weeks. I took the course at The Wellness Community, a nation-wide network of community centers for cancer patients and our loved ones and caregivers. They are also offered at hospitals, community centers, churches, etc.

You can find a list of course locations and dates at: www.cancerproject.com

Each participant receives a manual which is part textbook and part cookbook. There was a new edition being released in November, with new recipes.

I really enjoyed it. I plan to take the course again in March, from the new book.

Flo
