Does anyone have thoughts on oatbran hot cereal for breakfast? Is this a comparable alternative to oatmeal? I eat oatmeal because I know it's healthy, but I really don't like it.

Leslie, that sounds wonderful!

On Sunday, I made a batch of pumpkin and cranberry muffins with whole wheat flour. Delicious!

I have two favorite things; rather difficult to pick one. The first is a multi grain cereal (like oatmeal) and I add dried fruits to it and Quinoa for added protein. Sprinkle with brown sugar or pure maple syrup.filling and yummy.
The other is my homemade pancakes. I have many different recipes; pumpkin, buttermilk, berries, etc. I use whole grains to make them healthy. My grandbabies love it when they come and start fussing for them. Of course I make the silver dollar size and they eat them like cookies. No Sugar.

I love oat bran mixed with two tablespoons of flax seed meal. It is really filling and delicious!!

Also, I, too, LOVE quinoa!

Yum! This all sounds so good, especially with the cool weather. Leftover barley heated with soy milk and maple syrup sounds delish. I'm gonna make some and try it in the morning. Thanks for the tip! I usually have oatmeal, but it'll be nice to add some more hot breakfast dishes to the menu.

I have some quinoa but have not tried it for breakfast yet. I'll have to try it.

I am making mushroom barley soup and minestrone soup this week. I like barley just never had it rolled like oatmeal.

I have not had steel oats. I did try barley but not for breakfast. It's a nice side dinner dish with a dash of ginger, garlic, and salt and pepper to taste. But, I bet it would be great as a hot breakfast cereal.

I donít have a favorite though. I go through phases where I want a certain thing for a while then I get tired of it and move on to something else. I was a creature of habit, and my whole grain was only oatmeal. Then I had couscous. My new friend is quinoa. I am trying to learn new ways of having it. I love it with smothered with some strawberries and some Splenda or stevia or a bit of rice syrup or molasses. It makes a great hot cereal in the morning.

Hi!

I have used quinoa with walnuts, soy milk and sometimes a touch of pure maple syrup or honey. Blueberries with it is great, too.

I just bought some quinoa flakes at the health food store, but haven't tried them yet because I'm still off of all grains for a while (to get the yeast under control again).
My naturopath suggests quinoa over all other grains since it has more protein than the others and less glycemic impact.

Leftover brown rice heated with cinnamon raisins and some milk or soy milk tastes sort of like rice pudding. emoticon

Also heard Amaranth (sp?) is a useful grain, but haven't tried it yet. Kasha works, too.

Now I am hungry! LOL

I am loving steel cut oats (groats) because they stay with me. I have seen rolled barley, rye, wheat and oats at the health store. Has anyone tried them?
