Because it is the last day of April I weighed myself this mornig as it is the last day of the challenge. The good news is that I have lsot another 1lb so far this week and not only that but I can now do my belt up on the FOURTH hole. So that makes 9lb since the challenge started.

Although I am pleased, (obviously), I still have qualms about using the Xenecal tablets as they have definitely helped me to lose a consistent amount of weight and therefore are definitely a diet aid. Also, I am thinking of increasing my calories slightly as if things continue it will mean I am losing at the rate of at least 2lb per week. I am worried that this is a bit too much at one go and that it is going to be more difficult when it comes to keeping the weight off. Mum has said not to worry too much at the moment but to wait and see what happens in five months time when I come off the pills. The weight loss could slow down dramatically then. It is either that or come off the pills now. I simply do not know what to do and would welcome advice from any quarter.

On your front page. But I have visited your Gallery and it is just beautiful. That is your fav fuschia isn't it? Mine also. All those pics in your gallery look so good when zoomed in. And all my favourite little pets in there. What happy memories walking through, it made me smile to remember the fun we had. That little foxy thing hasnt got a name but I am sure we named her. Mac thought of something didnt he that we decided on.

Way to go Linda, that's some great exercising going on there.

Can't wait to see who has lost the most weight this month.

I know it is not me because I have already had my last weigh in for this month Sherry, and Mac has lost more than me, dont know about anyone else though.

I dont weigh in again until Sunday morning.

Keep it going and Wispy, don't wear youreself out. (I think we have had this discussoin before).

WTG Mac 8lb is great going, and hard to beat I am thinking. Well done you.

I also loved to crochet,knit, embroider, all those arts that the young ones no longer need. Cant remember if I told you but I knitted all my kids sweaters from when they were born up till teen years, and I unravelled them when they were outgrown and have made an enrmous Afgahan rug. So many happy memories are crocheted into those squares.

I did my steps again today about 1200 and the steps once and a little dancing, but not so much as yesterday because not only my body is tired today, I am too. I guess its because my son is staying and I am doing much more than usual.

I used to do embroidery and crochet but the hands do not work properly. The muscles tire too quickly. I suppose that I really could do a small bit at a time but I do get frustrated.

I know the feeling Kitty. Just when I am thinking I am on a roll with something those blasted temors start or I go into spasm. Had a go a little weeding this morning as I was watering the garden. Nothing too bad butI got half way through the row, I stood up and everything went black for a moment and my back locked in spasm. I was outsixde on my own so I oculd not do anything but wait it out until I could move again.

However, it is another emoticon and emoticon for me as I have lost another 2lbs, so I am feeling very pleased right now as this makes it 8lbs so far this month.

Well, I'm learning not to throw away - I mend my socks and shirts etc. and I'm trying to learn how to crochet and knit, but it's hard on my hands - I love to sew and craft. I also do cross-stitch and I'm working a bit on kneedle point and embroidery. I just wish my hands could keep at it. Oh well, just have to take is slow.emoticon

Hey Dee, a kindred spirit. Not many people tend to do crochet these days and if you were to ask a school kid about it they would probably look at oyu as if you were on a different planett. So many arts and crafts and skills have disappeard now in today's throwaway society. Some people don't know they are born or how lucky they are.

Hello to all you losers, and great looking people, I think we all have to learn how to slow down, mostly for those of us, who did have a very active life before the disability, I also learnt the hard way..

While I was just out of the hospital, and still in the wheelchair, I was getting antsy and wanted to get going, and that is the time I fell, and broke my leg, and ended back in the hospital for 4 more months.

So yes we need to try and listen to our bodies, but some days my body tells me things I don't understand, and I think I can do more, and feel it after the fact..

I started a vent thread under the games forum, and there is a place we can all go to let it out, and yell and scream with what we are fed up with at that time.. So I hope you will all use it at some time, to just let go, and say whatever you want, and whatever is bugging you that day.

y it is good to know that I am not alone in struggling to slow down a bit. I also have a mother who constantly nags me about it as well these days so I cannot get out of it. However, I have to say that so far my only repercussions of trying to carry on has been that my medical conditions bite me with a vengeance. Compared with how some of you have had to learn this is not even in the same ball park.

It is a subject that should be discussed because a lot of us do find it hard. I am finding it extremely difficult, and not just for the fact that my body is telling me enough, it is because I have to be doing something all of the time. I have a low boredom threshold and Mary used to hate it when I was on holiday at home with her. I just could not sit still, and the same goes for today. I can only do so much reading at a time. I can only watch so much TV in a spell. That is why I am pleased the spring is here and that the garden can occupy some of my time. Now that the hard work has been done for the most part this hobby will not prove so physical, which is good in one sense. It will still have to be tended and looked after so it means I can still get outside. What I am looking at now is for indoor hobbies. Ok, I spend quite a lot of time on my PC and especially with Spark these days but I also need to branch out. My problem is that I cannot do things involving great detail as my condition simply will not allow that. So what do I do?

I am going to possibly surprise you here because I have thought of a productive hobby which will also tax me. Because of my condition the tremors can come and go at any time. However, if I was to go back to this hobby and do short spells it might just work out. The hobby... CROCHET. Yes, you heard it here. I actually taught Mary to crochet because we couldn't afford to buy woolen blankets for the kids when they were first born so I got hold of some ends of wool, made some simple squares and crocheted them together. From there I taught Mary and she was able to make shawls and things. Such a simple thing and something not normally associated with a male, (I can knit as well), but it was taught to me by my grandmother when I was young as she said you never know when it is going to come in handy. When I was young, sewing had to be learned as it was still the age when people used to darn holes in socks etc. Nowadays we live in a throwaway culture. Having seven grandchildren it might just be nice to make them something instead of going out and buying it, and I am definitely thinking on these lines. BTW, for anyone who doesn't know, crochet (pronounced cro-shay) is a form of knitting using a single needle with a hook on the end and the stitches can really be broken down into singles, doubles and trebles with variants on each depending on what you are making).

But back to the main subject. Hard though it may be I have to learn to take things a bit easier. Okay, I am only 55 years old, but I do not want my condition to get any worse and I do so want to see my grandchildren grow up. So perhaps it is time now for a little of that Army discipline I used to have to endure. Maybe we should all have to take a deep breath and listen more to our bodies instead of having to learn the hard way.

Thanks Sherry for the wake up call. It is so timely.

Hi gang. Yep, it is so true Mac. I was into everything, a burn the candle at both ends kind of girl. I had so much living to catch up on, and I loved every minute of it. Now I am beginning to think I might even get out and about again it is so great. I have done my exercise for today 1600 and that's it for the day.

Good luck with walking Sherry. I am so wondering how you got on.

It's Saturday here, another great night on TV for me. So I am just kicking back, chatting to you all before I get some dinner. I am going to have a candle burning tonight, and a long stemmed wine glass for my sparling water. I have a great meal planned. Schannper sauteed in butter to start, then roast chicken with a mixed salad, a cheese plate and then a frothy creamy coffee.
WOW, it sounds so good. I have some Paris daisies and a coral pink double geraniium for the tray, and of course one of my favourite plates.

Now what was this thread about again. emoticon

MAC, this challenge is NOT just for losing weight, but it is also for people to come in and talk about how their doing... So bringing up the slowing down goes in here with how your getting through your challenge, and what you have to do daily to remember to stay healthy, and not in pain all the time from doing too much....

So I am glad you brought it up, because most of us do need to slow down, and we know that, but some times that is hard to do..

But this thread is for talking about anything that has to do with losing, and how your losing, and what you or me need to do to lose, and how to live a healthier life style..

Some of us did have a very active life before our disability, and some have been this way all their life, but no matter who, we all want to be able to do more.. Get out there, and try new things...

It's good to hear that you are finally listening to your body, and slowing down a bit, things will get done one day at a time, one chore at a time, one venture at a time, and so on.

And that is a great subject, to see who else struggles to slow themselves down, and maybe what worked for someone else, may work for another..

I know this challenge is supposed to be about losing weight but I thought I would mention a challenge that even Sherry did not think about when she mentioned it. Learning to slow down after having an active life before disability is a challenge in itself. This week, after having a rough couple of days I have had to really discipline myself to say, ok, that is that job done so now I will have a reast before tackling the next one. Then when that is done I have found it hard, (although I have managed it), to say that is enough for today. Naturally with me it is doing stuff in the garden as well as playing with Lucky and doing the housework etc. I have literally been challenged in my own mind to turn round and say NO to the next job. There is an old asaying that says don't put off 'til tomorrow what you acn do today. With our varius medial conditions and disabilities I am really having to concentrate on doing exactly the opposite. So far, so good. The past couple of days I have really limited myself and have madesure that every so often I sit down and have a drink and most importantly take a rest. Hopefully this strategy will imprint itself on my brain in time, but for now it is definitely proving really hard. I know Sherry has said a lt to a few of us on this subject but how many of you out there also have to almost shoout out to yourself at times to physically say ENOUGH?

WISPY, your doing a fantastic job, and now up to 1600 way to go, and yes never mind trying to do more right now, you will get there.. We sure don't need you hurting yourself..

DEE, you are doing some new exercising with the knee, and how soon before that brace comes off for good??

GINNY, are you still walking those stairs?? I am planning on going for a very short walk today, it will be the first time since last summer, so we will see how it goes..

Hi Linda nice to see you. WTG on the exercise lady.

Ginny the stairs ae great, I must confess today I had to see if I could manage it, I managed slope and one step, but my legs were not happy. I am going to have to work at - slowly of course Sherry.

Great news though I have done my 1600 steps again today so am feeling very pleased with that.

No weight loss this week - so glad I had the episode with my nutty attitude to the scales last week, because this week it didnt bother me. I have not cheated at all, so not sure why. I did feel bloated this morning, for the first time in the last 7 weeks. No idea what caused it. However onward and upward and I am so happy to be feeling good and healthy and getting my strength back. emoticon

First of all excellent news GINNY that you can do this. I can sometimes climb my stairs but more often than not I have to use the stairlift as although the physical exertion is not a prblem the very act of the way you have to mobilise your legs to climb can bring on the spasms and tremors. So, I am soooo pleassed that oyu are finally able to do this again. What seems to be just a small thig is actually a giant leap and somany emoticon

Now Wisopy, I see you are also getting the treatment from Sherry. Nicew to be in such good company. Seriously though, it is advice I have received from a lot of people and especialy my family. Okay, I find it hard to slow down but these past few weeks have taught me that I am going to have to or else my conditions couold get worse. So, although it hurts not to be able to forge ahead and charge through everything as I suspect you and I both would like, we should heed what Sherry is telling us as she has our best interests at heart and theadvice is extremely sound. Keep it nice and easy and like me, everything will get done in the end.

Sherry, fortunateky Mary isn't the jealous type so I am okay with all you lovely ladies. She is actually behind me when I told her about you all as the support is working so well. I have tried to get both Mary and Patricia to join Spark but they do not seem very interested and Mary simply does not have a lot of time, especially as she would have to share either my PC or Trish's laptop. So, I have the green light to stay on board and remain one of the luckiest men in the world. It is not often that a man can boast ofbeing surrounded by ladies like this, (at least not unless you are very rich, and that is a much different scenario anyway). Therefore, i will look forward to chatting with you every evening I can possibly manage.

I'm not sure why those country's are not on the map, I wonder if anyone else has noticed that..

It is amazing when you do something, you have not been able to do in the past, or things we use to do, but we are all going a head, last month, I finally walked down my basement stairs..

And as long as we keep at it, good things will happen for us all.. Some days I don't even feel like getting out of bed... But because of this team, I do, and once I'm out, and chatting with all of you.. I am great..emoticon

Ginny that is amazing you must feel so great being able to climb the stairs. I cant do steps yet, did try one day, only did 10 or so but could hardly move the next
day, whatever muscles you use for steps, mine are enjoying their long holiday and have no intention of giving that up without a fight.

The front of my cottage is wheelchair/walker friendly, and the back has 6 steps up, so I will be trying that later on. There is no hand rail however, and it costs a fortune to put one in. So I will have to see if I can get some kind of device that my son or gardener might be able to manage. I used to run up and down them like a moutain goat.

PS: Oh yes, New Zealand is not flagged either, I was going to ask you if there is something I need to do to get my flag on there. But Maybe Ireland and New Zealand are too small to count as separate countries.

Did I mention to you all that I can now go up the stairs in my house??? I haven't been able to do that in over a year. Now
I am trying to do it at least twice a day.

SHERRY-- I found out today where you are in Canada. (looked at the site map) No wonder we have trouble being on at the same time-- We are separated by a seven hour time difference!! BTW Irish members are not on the map!

Oh yes. I did 1600 today. Ok Sherry I can see you shaking your head and muttering - only with love and affection of course. However, I have been going the long way round the garden and I did have to get back home again. Excuses excuses.

Well, you know she must be a very understanding Missus, maybe she doesnt know about his secret Harem here.
Course, if she actually saw some of us she'd realise beauty sure is in the eye of the beholder. (I am applying this to myself, not you lovely ladies - ahemmm!!)

Dee, you will soon get used to us crazy bunch. What I was referring to was the fat pills I am taking at the moment, but that is now history. Come and join in with us regularly as the more you get to know us the more fun you will have. I am probably the luckiest member of the regular posters though. As I am the only male who is on line most days I am surrounded by a bevy of gorgeaous ladies, all of whom have a great personality, a good sense of humour and an extremely warm heart. It will not take you long to get to know us, (I have only just entered my third month with the team and already it is as if I have known the regulars forever). A great place to swap stories, chat a while and generally chill out as well as getting all the support you will ever need when times are not so good.

I am permanently hooked. You can keep MySpace etc. 'cos this is definitely THE place to be.
