I can only download back to episode #99 now. I use to have them all, but had taken them off for a while so as not to load my phone up. Now I'm sad

Thanks for doing this! I just started to go through the podcast again. I will listen to this one next. I can say there is no gym available to me so I do kettlebells at home and walk in the school gym before work.

I also use the Y because they let children over 12 use some of the machines. I have many complaints about the place though but I won't rant here. Many empty promises and limits on the kid programs. The worst is that they close two weeks for maintenance every summer just when your schedule is the most open. It always ruins our momentum.

My husband and I use to work out at a huge gym where there were a few body building competitors. We did free weights with a trainer and found that free weights gave you much quicker gains than machines. The machines did nothing for you after working with free weights for a couple of months and we just worked out twice a week. I lost a size and a half without losing a pound but I found it hard to cut back on food when you work out that hard. I miss it though.

I've always used the Y at all the places I've lived, mostly because they were the only option (the small towns I've lived don't have those fancy gyms the guys talked about!). But I always liked their family atmosphere...elderly folks worked out right alongside teenagers and it didn't feel like a meat market or a pick-up spot.

Now I have a child so I have to use the Y because the only gym in my area with childcare. I do pay a little more, but I know I would not work out nearly as much as I do if I waited for my husband to get home in the evening.

We've also used their programs, such as a Parent and Tot swim class, which is nice. I totally get the "con" that it can be a little TOO family-friendly at times, but overall I'm a big Y fan!

Oh, and I use MyFitness pal, which has me at 1400 calories to lose a pound a week, which I know is a little low. I usually eat a little more than that, quite a bit more than that when I work out. Still tweaking the numbers to see what works best for me. I love myfitness pal though, it is completely mobile user-friendly, which is a must for me.

Great idea! I haven't been active in the team (or SparkPeople, for that matter, on and off over the years), but this sounds great. I still listen to the old podcasts, but haven't listened to this episode in awhile. I'll listen tonight and come back to join the conversation.

I chose my gym based on convenience, price and facilities. I use the rec center at the university I work at. I have the price withdrawn from my paycheck. It's close to my work, LOL! It's on campus! There's fun group fitness classes like zumba, kickboxing, TRX, TurboKick, etc. There's racquetball courts, a pool, running track, & weight room. Sometimes, when school's not in session, the hours & classes are limited. That's the down side. There's also a majority of fit 18-22 year olds, and few ladies like me.
