I do need to lighten up with my kids...and focus not so much to the information they share, but the feelings behind what they tell me about school, friends, etc.
For example, my daughter was telling me about some friends in her class yesterday, but I never got back around to listen to her feelings about what she was describing and reporting...so I will do that this weekend.
All good reminders...thanks for posting!

Singing....religious stuff that i learned when I visited the Hutterian Brethren in UK...:

From the suns rising
until it has set again
shall the name of the Lord be praised,
shall the name of the Lord be praised

That's a great little ditty to lighten up the morning!

If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one!

I love the idea of singing in the morning---loved it when I read about it in the book. I'd like to have a collection of corny, sappy songs to trot out.

I recently learned the lyrics sung to the tune of the old Dick Van Dyke show. You didn't ask but here's the words:

Well, you say that you got trouble
Well, trouble's a bubble,
So tell old Mr. Trouble to get lost.

Hold your head up high
Stop crying, start trying,
And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed.

When you find the joy of living is loving and giving
You'll be there when the winning dice are tossed

A smile's just a frown that's turned upside down
So smile and that frown will defrost.
And don't forget to keep your fingers crossed!

Hello!

Here are the goals Gretchen laid out for April/Lighten Up month:

- sing in the morning!
- acknowledge the reality of people's feelings
- be a treasure house of happy memories
- take time for projects

If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one!
