My name is Susan

and I have read your stories and want to thank you for sharing.

My act of kindness may not seem much and it really is probably one of those that is more of keeping my sanity in check..
but basically...

I let my daughter live another week without taking her head off or mine...
I have visions of throwing myself down the stairs...
or having my ears fall off...
or maybe just have her voice box quit working..

or maybe..just maybe...

she will actually find someone to fall in love with that actually can take her just the way she is...

yep...

I did good..

and my husband deserve credit for putting up with me..*LOL

and her!!!

well..with the both of us..hmmmmmmmmm

off to bed I go..

Hugs
Susan

Random Act of Kindness story: Unfortunately, I can't take credot for this act but it's such a great story I have to share it:
Here's a bit of background...my client suffers from extreme anxiety and has a history of huge health traumas. She was in yesterday to see the psychiatrist. He meets with our clients weekly, despite being the Chief of Staff of the hospital, the full time inpatient psyc, the father of 12 children, he sees the 900 odd clients of the program for which I work. Suffice it to say that he is a VERY busy man. Appointments are scheduled for 20 minutes, with the last 5 minutes to be for documentation. Clients recognize and appreciate how busy he is and take little time for pleasantries.

My client was very upset and anxious yesterday and asked me to come in with her so that she didn't forget to tell him everything about her meds that we had previously discussed. We walked into the meeting room and, in response to his question of how she's doing, she immediately started talking about her anxiety and concerns that she has brain cancer and death is imminent.

He stopped her, invited her to sit, and asked her what she likes to do. She responded that she does not want to die. Again, he stopped her and asked her if she likes to garden. She does. He asked again what she likes to do. Well, she likes to bake. What does she like to bake. She made a great cheese cake a few weeks ago. Tell me about it, what goes into it? Did you share it? Heather had some? Are her cheese cake making skills improving, deteriorating, or staying the same? She visibly relaxed talking about something she enjoys. Somehow, the conversation naturally turned to her health, her meds, etc. She left the office exactly 20 minutes later, with the agreement that his note would be dictated rather than written. Everyone wins! She felt great and listened to, the next patient didn't have to wait any longer. And he and I will receive a piece of the next cheese cake to determine her cheese cake making baseline emoticon

For a man as busy as he to take the time to make small talk was the kindest thing I've seen in a long while and I thought I'd share it.

Let's call this one Random Acts of Kindness Challenge...Give us the following information:

Name: Jan
Date: 01/18/08
Random Act of Kindness story: I guess I have two, although it feels weird to toot your own horn, but then again good too. Enuff
Okay: I share a home with my mother. We learned a long time ago that there really is not place in any home to have two cooks in the kitchen, so she is the domestic part of our partnership and I take care of mechanical and anything that requires dealing with the public. Since her cancer surgery 2 years ago, she had gotten so darn skinny and frail. I convined her to start walking on the treadmill to build up her strength. (the surgery horribly disfigured her face so she doesn't like to go out in public often) Anyway, she walks the treadmill for 10 minutes in the morning and 10 at night (so far) so while she walks after supper I have been doing the dishes so that when she comes downstairs, she can relax..It sounds like I'm rather lazy becasuse I let her do all the domestic stuff, but it's important that she remains "in charge" of those tasks. If I did everything for her, she would feel all she could do is sit and that is NOT what is best for her.. Make sense?
My supervisor is morbidly obese and crippled by it- She makes her way to our office in steps. After she parks her car, she gets out and walks the 15 feet or so to our outside door and rests for a few minutes. She had been sitting on a ashtray, but I found and slipped a office chair outside the door. I make sure that if I am working that the parking space closest to the door is open when she is due in. She doesn't know who put the chair out and I have never said anything.

Random Act of Kindness story: As many of you are aware, my mother in law passed away over the holidays. Chris was granted last week off for bereavement leave and was back to work yesterday. Upon his return, he was informed that he is off to Texas next week for at least a month and a half. We had been hoping that they wouldn't send him. Instead, they are sending him for longer than originally planned. I know it's probably because of his abilities as a Log Off but it feels like it's because he missed last week at work.

Anywhoo, he was p-o'ed about it, upset, disappointed, etc. As was I. I have an appointment with the fertility clinic 2 days after he leaves and really wanted him to come to it with me. I decided it would be unkind and unthinking to express my feelings and looked for silver linings--I talked positively about all the things that were good about his going to Texas and I think I may have convinced him, even if just a little.
