A word from the Word

June 9 - - Faith

Mark 2:5 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

“When Jesus saw their faith”, faith is the key word in this verse. Faith plays a big part in prayer. So if faith is so important then don’t you think we need to stop and ask the question – what is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

First faith is a substance. What is a substance? The dictionary says that substance is the actual matter of a thing, as opposed to the appearance or shadow of reality. It is the material a thing is made up of.

So faith is the substance that we build or hope on and the evidence that what we do not see is actually their.

How does the old saying go? “Seeing is believing” but with faith it is “believing is seeing”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

June 8 - - Roof tearing prayers

Mark 2;3-4 3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. 4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

When I look at this scripture and the four men trying to get their friend to Jesus I can’t help but think of intercessory prayer. Praying for a friend who is sick or who is in need. Praying, as in taking this person to Jesus.

These four men were determined to get their friend to Jesus. They knew that if they could get to Jesus that Jesus could and would heal their friend. They tried the front door thin I believe they tried the back door and then the windows. They were not going to give up. Then they got a ladder and went to the roof. They knew it would involve a cost if they tore up the roof but they were determined to get to get their friend to Jesus. So they tore a hole in the roof and lowered the man down to Jesus.

When I read this I wonder just how determined we are when we pray for a friend. Do we pray and the stop or do we pray, what I like to call roof tearing prayer.

That’s the kind of prayer I want to be able to pray. Lord please make me into a roof tearing prayer warrior.

See you in church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

A word from the Word

June 7 - - Jesus preached the Word.

Mark 2 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. 2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

I love the last part of this verse “And He preached the Word unto them”. People today still have a hunger for the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

PSALM 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

A lamp unto my feet so that I will not stumble and fall and a light unto my path showing me the right way to go

Now how great is that?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

June 6 - - The house was full

Mark 2 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. 2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

In Mark 2 we see a large crowd had gathered seeking Jesus. It says “in as much as there was no room to receive them”. They were there seeking Jesus. I have often said that when we start preaching Jesus we won’t be able to build churches fast enough to hold the people.

People are seeking Jesus. They are seeking Jesus in their marriage. They are seeking Jesus in their jobs. They are seeking Jesus in the raising of their children. People are seeking Jesus.

John 12:32 Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me”.

Our part is to lift Jesus up. Jesus part is to draw all men unto Him. How hard is this to understand?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

June 5 - - Worth saving

Romans 5:8 God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

One day while working in the yard, I found a coin. I picked it up and noticed how it was caked with dirt and grime. I felt it was not worth my time to try to clean it up. Then the thought occurred to me that even though the coin was dirty, it had not lost its value.

Often we stop and wonder how God could love such a person as me. It seems as if I keep falling short of what God would have me to be. Often I look at myself as I looked at the coin that I found, to dirty to keep. But just like this coin, even though I have been soiled by sin I have not lost my value in the sight of God.

“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.

Even though we were/are soiled by sin God still felt we were worth saving.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the financial needs of the church, calling believers to give generously and sacrificially through tithes and offerings.

So true. You don't know what kind of bills or guilt they're carrying around to have "achieved" their wealth or fame. I'd rather be who I am with what I have and trust in God knowing He gives me what I need. It's a much happier place to be.

June 4 - - Do not envy sinners

Proverbs 23:17-18 - Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

“Let not thine heart envy sinners”. This would be those that have gotten their gain or fame by sinful means. There are many wealthy or successful people in the world. Many of them have gained their wealth or success by means that were just down right evil. This verse tells me that we are not to envy them and what they have but we are to be in “fear of the Lord”.

What does it mean to be in “fear of the Lord”? Fear of the Lord as used here is to show and have reverence for the Lord. Not to envy what man has gained by sinful ways but to put your trust and reverence in God knowing God will provide for you.

It says that surely there is future hope for those that fear the Lord, and there hope will not be cut off.

My question would be, if the hope of those THAT FEAR THE LORD WILL NOT be cut off does that mean that the hope of those that DO NOT FEAR THE LORD will be cut off?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

A word from the Word

June 3 - - If God said you can do it then you can do it.

Exodus 4:10-12 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Have you ever feel inadequate in the things God has called you to do? Will I know I have. I sometimes feel that if I try to do something that God is calling me to do that I will make a mess of it.

Well Moses felt the same way. I like what God said to Moses “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”?

Who would know more about you and what you are able to do then God the one who made you. So if God has called you to do something don’t you not think that God would know if you are able to do it?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

June 2 - - The mountains and valleys

Isaiah 49:11 I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.

English Standard Version reads like this - - I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways will be raised up.

We all have mountains and valleys in our lives. Mountains that we have no idea how we are going to cross. And those valleys, those place where there seems to be nothing but darkness.

Well I have good news for you. God will make level all those mountains. God will make them into a highway. And those valleys, God will raise them up, God will make them level. God will bring you up and out of that valley onto level ground.

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. - - - - Well it just doesn’t get any better than that.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

June 1 - - Love you enemies

Matthew 5:43-44 “You have heard that it was said, 'Love your friends, hate your enemies.’ But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Prayer brings about change...Prayer brings about change in the one we are praying for but it also brings about change in the one who is praying.

It is very hard to be bitter or angry with a person that you are truly praying for and if we are faithful in our praying it just might be that our enemy might stop being our enemy and become our friend.

Problem solved - - See you in church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

I agree with you Herb. I believe that our lives, the way we speak and act, should be part of our prayer. How people perceive us should be part of our prayer life. Prayer takes on many forms, not just down on your knees, striking your breast, head bowed prayer. How we speak and treat our neighbors should reflect our prayer life.

May 31 - - Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

I have read this many times in the Bible and each time I read it I pictured a person on their knees praying all day. I don’t believe this is what the verse is really telling us. I believe that it is telling us that we are to be in an attitude of prayer, in constant contact with the thrown of grace.

I read once, in the “Upper Room” devotional, of a little girl telling her grandmother "I'm praying for you granny and I haven't said amen yet.”

I believe that “praying without ceasing is never saying amen”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

I used to be the driver most of the time and couldn't figure out why I was having trouble with my fruit then I started praying for humility and the Lord has showed me a thing or two. Now the Holy Spirit is my driver. I still try to drive sometimes but I like it better when He drives. It's much more relaxing too. Thank you Herb.

May 30 - - Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

I love Paul's teaching in Galatians 5 verses 22 & 23. When I look at this scripture I can’t help but look at myself and ask the question, “does the Holy Spirit really control my life and am I producing the fruit that comes only from the Holy Spirit”?

Even after coming to Christ by faith we still try to hold onto and try to control our lives. When I finally realized that I needed "let go, and let God", my life becomes easier.

When I “let go and let God” I find that the stress and worry seem to disappear. When I allow myself to be controlled by the Holy Spirit I begin to realize that this is what true LIFE IN JESUS is all about!

It’s like driving a car. When I’m driving the car I’m the one who is deciding where I am going. What I need to do it to allow the Holy Spirit to do the driving, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to make the decisions in our lives. When we allow the Holy Spirit control our lives, we will begin to see amazing fruit being born in our lives! Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance

Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to do the driving? Who is holding on to the steering wheel in your life - you or the Holy Spirit? Are you willing to let go of that steering wheel?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

A word from the Word

May 29 - - What’s on the inside will eventually be on the outside.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Whatever in inside you will eventually spill out of your mouth. That’s a little freighting when you stop to think about it. I had a pastor who once said, “What kind of fruit falls from your tree when someone shakes it”.

Those little things that we keep hid in our closet. Those things that we know are wrong but we refuse to leave go of. You can only hide them for so long.

Numbers 32:23 ... then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.

Luke 6:46 - - - why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Don’t get mad at me, I didn’t say it Jesus did.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

Thank you Herb and so true. I know my Pastor teaches right from the bible and that is so comforting.

May 28 - - Judge a tree by its fruit.

Luke 6:43-4443 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

The only measuring stick we have is the Word of God and the Word of God says “You will know a tree from the fruit it produces”. You will also know a Christion by the fruit they are producing.

The same holds true with the Church and the preaching of the Word. That is why it is so important that we take our bible with us when we go to church. We need to check what is being preached with what the bible says.

I hate to tell you this but not all churches are preaching Jesus. I have been in churches where the name of Jesus is never spoken. The music and the preaching never speak the name of Jesus. Even when they pray they will say thing like “in His Name”.

Paul said it like this. 1 Corinthians 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

The music is to be about Jesus, the preaching is to be about Jesus and the praying is to be done in the name of Jesus.

John 12:32 Jesus said, - - - if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

May 27 - - Judging and giving advice.

Luke 6:41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

We are always quick to judge and to give advice to those around us as to how they are living but before we give advice we first need to look at how we are living

Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

Jesus is telling us that we need to work on our lives and when we get our lives right then we can judge and give advice to others

How long will it take to get our lives right? I don’t think we will be doing much judging and giving advice.

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Jesus is our righteousness. Jesus is the only righteousness we have. So the next time we try to help a person by giving advice why don’t we shear with them the righteousness of Jesus.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela¬tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

I believe it's okay to question those in leadership at your church. It's okay to double check the verses that they are teaching from. If you have questions ask them. There's nothing wrong with that especially if something doesn't feel right. Thank you Herb.

May 26 - - Can a blind man lead a blind man?

Luke 6:39 He also told them this parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? 40 A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

What happens when a blind man tries to lead a blind man? They will both fall into a pit.

What is Jesus telling us here? Jesus is telling us to be sure that the one we’re fallowing is not blind to the truth. If they are not walking in the truth of the Word then they are blind

40 “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher”.

We are all the product of our teachers. You will become what you are being taught. So be careful where you are being led and what your being taught. Choose a good Bible believing church, A church that is being led by the Holy Spirit and a church who is teaching the Word of God.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

This has happened so many times where I don't know how much to give and I ask God and He'll tell me a certain amount. At first I would question Him. But not anymore. He knows exactly what He's doing. AMEN. Pressed down shaken together.

May 25 - - It will be given back to you

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

“And it will be given back to you”. Did you see what I just saw? What you give will be given back to you but it goes even further than that.

“Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, poured into your lap”. God will Fill your cup and then press it down so more can be given. Then God will shake your cup in order to make room for even more until it is not only full but it is running over spilling out into your lap. I believe that you cup will be so full that it will even be spilling out on everyone around you.

One thing for sure --- you cannot out give God

I had a pastor who once told me “whatever you need that is what you need to give.

Just a thought - - - See you in church.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that strained or broken relationships, among families and friends as well as acquaintances, will be restored.

May 24 - - What you plant is what you harvest

Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Wow what a scripture. What you give is what you receive. What you plant is what you harvest

You know when I was young boy I would watch my granny plant this garden. Each spring she would plant different things in her garden. Never once did I see her plant one thing and grow something else. If she planted carrots then she harvests carrots.

As Christians we can learn a lot from this. “Whatever we plant is what we will harvest. If you plant friendship then you will harvest friendship. If you plant love then you will harvest love.

But it does not stop there. It goes on to tell us that the harvest will always be greater than the planting. Luke 6:38 “ Give and it will be given to you a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

I just dearly love the Word of God. It just keeps getting better and better.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

May 23 - - Compel them to come

1 Corinthians 3:6 I (Paul) have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

When I was young boy I recall seeing my grandmother putting out a small garden. She broke the soil and planted the seed. Then for the next few weeks she would water and weed. In time with careful tending, plants would begin to appear. Then before you knew it grannie would began to harvest what she had planted. The table would be set with fresh vegetables from grannies garden.

Jesus spoke of another kind of harvest, a harvest of souls. For years Ann and I were able to visit those who visited our church. We counted it a blessing to be able to shear Jesus with others.

At times we felt sad, thinking we had not done our best. However, the important thing to remember is that we were simply planting the seed. Some received the seed of the Word but other did not. Those who did not receive the Word may still come to follow Jesus later. When God’s Word is proclaimed and shared, it is like a seed that is placed in the ground. Then sun, rain, and caring hands contribute to its growth.

Some plant, some water and some see the harvest.

Luke 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
We have been called to plant the seed the Holy Spirit will tend to the harvest.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. 2 Chronicles 714 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

May 22 - - Read the directions

PROVERBS 4:20-22 - 20 My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

I recall trying to put together a gym set for out granddaughter when she was still very young. I worked several hours on it and I still did not have it assembled. So I did what I should have done in the beginning – I looked at the directions.

The directions began by saying “This gym set can be assembled in fifteen minutes using these directions but it may take several hours not using them”.

How often do we deal with life the hard way simple because we did not read the directions? Make reading the bible part of your daily life and allow God’s Holy Word to direct you.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership a strong sense of vision for the church and congregation.

May 21 - - With God all things are possible.

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Wow you could build your life on this one verse. What is impossible for man is possible for God. The bible tells us this same truth over and over and over.

Genesis 18:14 - Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Job 42:1-2 - Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do everything....
Jeremiah 32:17 - Ah Lord God! ... there is nothing too hard for thee.
Jeremiah 32:27 - Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for the Lord?;
Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27 - With God all things are possible.
Luke 1:37 - For with God nothing shall be impossible
Luke 18:27 - The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

I heard it once said “the impossible God does best”.

So my question would be how many times do we have to be told something before we start believing it?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those gift to the fullness of their potential.

May 20 - - Just as you are

Romans 5:8 (NIV) - God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We pick and choose those that we like and those that we dislike. Most often the ones we like are those that live up to a standard that we have set for them. This is most often based on their behavior. But this is not true with God for it tells us here in this scripture that “while we were still sinners Christ died for us”.

Christ did not wait till we came up to His standers. Christ died for us just the way we were but He did not intend for us to remain that way. He wants us to grow into the likeness of Himself.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral leadership will be blessed with the guidance and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

- - - A word from the Word

May 19 - - And Jesus wrote on the ground

John 8:8 8 And again he (speaking of Jesus) stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

The Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery hoping to trick Jesus. They asked Jesus the question. 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? (John 8:4-5)

I, among many, have often wondered what Jesus wrote on the ground. Then I read in Jeremiah 17:13 13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.

Now the Pharisees know the Word of God so could it be that when Jesus wrote on the ground it brought to memory Jeremiah 17:13. One thing we do know is that they “ which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman- - -”. (John 8:9-10).

Just a thought - - -Tell me, what do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as well as with community leaders.

May 18 - - I pray that you may prosper.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

I would like for us to look together at this prayer that John is praying for those to whom he has written this letter. Paul says. I pray that you will be as physically healthy as much as your soul is spiritually healthy.

How healthy is your soul spiritually?

Is this a prayer that you would like for someone to pray for you?

Just a thought - - - See you in Church.

May 17 - - I AM THE VINE, YE ARE THE BRANCHES

John 15:5 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

All the branch has to do to produce fruit is to stay attached to the vine. The life in the branches comes from the vine and apart from the vine it has no life.

I was doing a sermon in Children’s Church one Sunday. I was telling the children how that when I was coming to church I heard this groaning sound. I stopped the car to see what was going on and I saw this grape vine trying to have grapes. It was moaning and groaning trying to make the grapes pop out on its branches. Then I laughed and told them I was kidding that everyone know that all a branch has to do in order to have grapes it to stay attached to the vine.

Jesus said “ I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abided or stays attached to Me will bring forth much fruit”. The fruit that Jesus is speaking of here is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

So if you want to produce the Fruit of the Spirit then TAKE HOLD OF JESUS AND - - DON’T - - LEAVE - - GO.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral staff strong health, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

May 16 - - I AM THE TRUE VINE

John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

It says here that Jesus is the true vine so if Jesus is the true vine then there must be vines that are not true vines. All vines do not produce grapes and all religions do not produce salvation. Jesus makes it clear that no one can enter into Heaven except by Him.

Act’s 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Some believe that if they are good they will go to Heaven. Others believe that having a mother or a father that is a Christian makes them a Christian. Others believe that by doing good works, helping those in need, working in a nursing home or feeding the homeless will provide salvation.

Even though all of these things are good and commendable they will not take you to Heaven. It’s only by faith in Jesus the true vine that we are able to enter into salvation and the reward of heaven

Jesus offers us true life --Abundant life, a new life and this new life comes only from abiding in Jesus.

Jesus said I am the True Vine.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

May 15 - - I AM THE WAY, TRUTH, LIFE

John 14:6 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

This “I AM” statement by Jesus took place at the “LORDS SUPPER TABLE” on the night before Jesus was crucified.

Several things are taking place. We see Jesus washing the feet of His disciples showing them how they are to be servants. Jesus has just told His disciples that one of them would betray Him. Peter is told that he would deny Jesus tree times before the rooster crows. Jesus tells His disciples that He would be leaving and they could not go with Him. This was a time of confusion and trouble for the disciples.

Jesus knew they would not understand so He gives them a word of comfort. John 14:1-4 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Good old Thomas always asking the questions. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him (Thomas), I am the way, the truth, and the life - - - .

Jesus was telling Thomas that he did not need to know the way. Jesus said I am the way “- - -I will come again, and receive you Thomas unto myself that where I am, there ye nay be also”. Jesus was telling Thomas that he did not need to know the way that when it was time that He would come for him.

Everything we need for our salvation has been taken care of by Jesus all we need do is to trust and believe. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

May 14 - - I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

John 11:25-26 25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Lazarus, a very close friend of Jesus has just died. Mary and Murtha his two sisters are there. Jesus arrived three days after the death and the body had already been placed in the thumb. 21 “Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. 22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee”. (John 11:21-22)

Have you ever been at a Funeral to visit the family or a friend who has just lost a love one? You look and them and search for the right words to say. Yes, it is hard to choose the right words to speak to one who is grieving but Jesus always knows the right words to say.

Jesus spoke these words to Martha “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die”. (John 11:26)

The words Jesus spoke to Martha were true then and are also very true for us today.

Jesus is the resurrection and life.

Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks. Hebrews 12:28

My church teaches that the purpose of life is to "love and serve God in this life and to be happy with him forever in the next." That is certainly a thing to be thankful for in this day and age, when so many people seem to have no purpose in their lives at all. Then too, it seems to me that happiness and gratitude are twins. The more a person looks around and sees how blessed he or she is, the more a person is grateful. And the more a person gives thanks and praise for those blessings, the more those blessings seem to multiply.

May 13 - - I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:14 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

John 10:3-4 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

It was not uncommon for several families to bring their sheep together at night and hire someone to take watch over them.

With this in mind we can understand verse 3. 3 “To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out”.

At morning the shepherd would call his sheep and they would leave the group and follow him because they know his voice when He calls their name.

There will come a day when Jesus will come with a sounding of the trumpet. 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

Will you know the voice of Jesus when He calls your name?

John 10:14 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

May 12 - - I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:14 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

There would be times when the shepherd would set watch over the sheep and times when someone was hired to watch. Jesus tells us that there is a great difference between the good shepherd and the hireling.

John 10:11-13 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

Jesus was telling them in this parable that there would be those who would come saying they are from God who would lead them into destruction. Jesus was most likely speaking of the Pharisees. We must be very careful whose voice we follow.

That was when Jesus spoke the words 11 “I AM” the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (John 10:11) Jesus did give His life for His sheep but only to take it up again. Jesus is the “GOOD SHEPHERD”.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

May 11 - - I AM THE DOOR.

John 10:9 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

What did Jesus mean when He said that He was the door?

After all the spring grass was gone the shepherd would take his sheep sometimes a long distance to find new pastures. During these months he would sleep with his sheep. Usually he would build a rough enclosure of stone leaving a small opening as a door. He would then sleep across the opening making Himself the door. In order to get to the sheep they would have to go through the shepherd.

I recall when my granddaughter was very young my wife and I take care of her. I recall that I would always tell her that in order for anyone to get to her they would have to go through me. I recall once hearing her tell one of her friends that they would have to go through her papaw in order to get to her. She found real safety in knowing this.

Jesus is my salvation therefore that makes Jesus my door. Now how safe it that? Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved”. Only one way into salvation and that is through the JESUS the door.

See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the financial needs of the church, calling believers to give generously and sacrificially through tithes and offerings.

As we open the door to God wider and wider he takes the place of all fear and anxiety. He removes unhealthy habits. He frees us to be all that we can become-physically, mentally, and spiritually. Thank you, God!

May 10 - - I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Before we came to Christ we were walking in darkness but now with Jesus in our heart we are now walking in the light. We are now able to see and understand the spiritual things of God. It is only when we partake of the life that is in Jesus Christ that have this light.

The world says, "Let me see and then I will believe." Jesus tells us it is exactly the opposite: "Believe and then you will see."

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral staff will remain bold in proclaiming spiritual truth, even when it is unpopular to do so.

Psalm 120:1 in my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

In the midst of any painful situation thoughts come within the individual to give up. When there appears to be no hope for deliverance why should one seek for help? These are certainly emotions that cause some to give up, but David declared a diffrent approach; he cried unto the Lord and the Lord heard his cry. Deliverance was the result.

Distress is a time in which one must decide how to respond. The options include giving up or seeking the Lord's assistance. Regardless of how impossible your situation may appear be assured the Lord is able to deliver. With confidence cry unto Him for He will hear your cry.

DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, it we faint not. Gal. 6:9

May 9 - - I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

If I were to try to remove all the darkness from a room I would not use a bucket, scooping up the darkness and throwing it out a window. That is not how you would remove darkness from a room. The same thing holds true for sin in our lives. No matter how hard I try I cannot remove sin from my life.

How do you remove darkness from a room? Yes - - to remove darkness from a room you turn on the light. The same with our lives, if you want to remove sin from our lives you turn Jesus on “THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

In the same way light has power over darkness Jesus has power over the darkness of sin.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

May 8 - - I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

John 8:12 “I am the light of the world; he who fallows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

When Jesus made this statement He was at Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles. It is important to understand where Jesus was and what was taking place in order to understand why at this time Jesus said, “I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD”.

In the 7th chapter of John’s Gospel we see that Jesus in Jerusalem for the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles. On this last day of this great feast was the celebration known as the LAMP LIGHTING CELEBRATION. This is what would take place.

Men would dance through the streets holding torches and singing Psalms. Then at evening they would gather in the court of the woman. There would be four golden bowls at the top of four very large golden candlesticks. Jars of oil would be poured into the bowls and then the bowls would be lit. The light would so intense that there would not be a courtyard in the city of Jerusalem that would not be reflecting the beauty of this light.

That was when Jesus spoke these words. That was when Jesus said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”. John 8:12

Jesus always knew what to say and the right time to say it.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

May 7 - - I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE.

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on shall never thirst.

Jesus makes this “I AM” statement in the 35th verse of the 6th chapter of John’s gospel. What we need to see is that the entire 6th chapter is about bread.

Jesus feed’s the 5.000 thousand bread. Matthew 6:5-7 5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

Then later in the chapter we see the decuples leaving by sea crossing over to Capernaum. A storm comes up and this is where we see Jesus walking on the water. Later when Jesus reached Capernaum the crowd found Jesus again and this is where Jesus makes the statement - - - Matthew 6:26-27 26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves (the bread), and were filled.

It appears that most of the crowd that was following Jesus was following Jesus for the bread. When I look at this I have to ask myself the question, for what reason am I following Jesus. Is it so that Jesus will take care of me, is it so I will go to heaven, it could even be so I will not go to hell or is it because I simply love Jesus and want to please Him.

Jesus said “I AM” the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on shall never thirst. John 6:35

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

May 6 - - I AM THE I AM

Exodus 3:13. 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, “I AM THAT I AM”: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, “I AM” hath sent me unto you.

When Jesus addresses Himself as “I AM” He was/is proclaiming to the world that he is the promised messiah.

In the book of John, Jesus address Himself as “I AM” seven times.
Jesus said, I AM the bread of life (6:35)
Jesus said, I AM the light of the world (8:12)
Jesus said, I AM the door (10:7, 9)
Jesus said, I AM the good shepherd (10:11, 14)
Jesus said, I AM the resurrection and the life (11:25)
Jesus said, I AM the way the truth and the life (14:6)
Jesus said, I AM the true vine (15:1, 5)

Do you have a need in your life? - - - - - Jesus said “I AM”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

May 5 - - Then when the Storm comes your house will stand

Matthew 7:25,27 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Then when the storm comes, and the storms will come, the Bible tells me that the house built on the sand will fall but the House built on the Rock will stand.

We each are to build in preparation of a storm and we all know the storm will come. I heard it once said that we are either coming out of a storm, in the midst of a storm or going into a storm.

No better place to be in a storm then anchored to the Rock of Ages. Jesus is that Rock

What do you think?

May 4 - - Use good blueprints in BUILDING YOUR HOUSE

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Use a good set of blueprints. Know what kind of house you want to build and use the best blue prints that you can find. Follow the plans doing everything the way it should be done.

We also need to follow the plan that God has given us on how to build our life. The Bible is the Christians blueprints. How does the Bible say that I should handle this? How should I respond to this? When the storm comes how and what should I do?

You wouldn’t have much of a house if you only look at the blueprints once a week for an hour on Sunday. You need to search it daily.

See you at Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

You're so right Herb. When we're not consistent we fall away from Jesus. I know first hand but when we are consistent reading His word, prayer, going to church, fellow shipping then all we have to go is close to our Saviour!

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29 NKJV

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Phillipians 2:4 NKJV

A word from the Word

May 3 - - We must be consistent in BUILDING OUR HOUSE

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

We must be consistent, day after day, week after week, good weather or bad weather.

The same is true for us in our daily walk with Jesus. You can’t be an on again off again Christian and still be ready for the storm. We need to be consistent in our Christian walk, day after day, week after week, in good times and in the bad times. Praying, Reading the Bible, Going to Church. We don’t take a day off from being a Christian. We don’t take a vacation from the Christian walk. Who would want to? Like the disciples told Jesus in the 6th chapter of John, “where would we go”? Salvation is in no other than Jesus.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

May 2 - - You may need help BUILDING YOUR HOUSE

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

There will be times we need help with the building of our house.

You may need to have someone give you advice or hold a board in place. There may be things in the building that you don’t understand or just don’t know how to do. Then you may need to help others with the building of their house.

The Christian walk sometimes is not easy.

Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.--1 Thessalonians 5:11

Sometimes we do need help. Sometimes we need others to help by praying. Sometimes we need others to be there for us, to encourage us as we strive to live the Christian life. Sometimes we need good Christian advice, someone to talk to about the storm that is in our lives. Sometimes we need to help others by doing the same.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

May 1 - - Choosing the best material for BUILDING YOUR HOUSE

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

When we build our house we need to use good material, the best lumber and brick good flooring and carpet, the best cabinets in the kitchen, picking and choosing the very best, after all this is our house.

It’s the same with our lives. We need to choose only the very best like being part of a good Bible believing church, having a good prayer life and spending time in God’s Word, after all this is our house.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

April 30 - - BUILD YOUR HOUSE UPON THE ROCK

For the next few days we will be looking at the Parable of House built upon the Rock

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

When it comes to building a house there are three things that are very important - - - LOCATION, LOCATION AND LOCATION.

When building a house the first thing we need do is to look at location. A person who is going to build will sometimes look a long time trying to pick just the right place to build their house.

Jesus tells us that these two builders each chose different locations. One choses a location you might say is at the beach. Now this sounds like a great place to build. Every day you play in the sand or walk along the beach but the beach is not a very good place to be when a storm comes in from the ocean.

Jesus tells us that the other builder built upon the rock. Rock is not a very easy place to build. To build on rock requires a lot of work. You would need to do some drilling or even blasting in order to set the foundation.

Jesus was speaking of our lives and what we are building our lives upon. Some will build on things that are temporal like money or their jobs, friends and a good time. These are those who are like the man that built on the sand. Then there are those that build their lives upon a rock. Jesus is that rock.

There is one thing they both have in common in this parable. They are both building in preparation for a storm and you can be assured that the storm will come. I heard it said that we are either coming out of a storm, in the midst of the storm or going into the storm.

We are to build in preparation for that storm.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela-tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

A word from the Word

April 29 - - Show me thy glory

Exodus 33:18-19, 21-22 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

I don’t know how many times I have read this scripture and never seen really what it was saying.

Moses was asking God to allow him to see God’s glory. What I did not see was the answer that God gave to Moses. God said Moses if you want to see my glory you must stand on the Rock. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: (Exodus 21).

Nothing has changed, today if we want to see the glory of God we too must stand on the Rock. Jesus said, "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: - - - " (Matthew 7:24).

“Hears these saying of mine and does them”. This is the secret of seeing the glory of God.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

There are certain people in our lives we run into that are truly hard to love as Christ loves us. I'm so thankful for forgiveness and prayer!! Thank you Herb. Have a blessed evening.

April 28 - - Love one another

John 13:34 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Moses was given the ten commends for us to keep. Jesus came to redeem us and Jesus did this by taking our sins upon Himself. Jesus keep the tem commends for us. But before Jesus left to return to His place in heaven Jesus gave us a new command to keep.

You know as a person we wear all kind of hats in our lifetime. We wear hats telling other our preference in a sports team. We wear hats tell others where we work or where we attend school. One of my grandchildren gave me a hat telling others that I am their grandpa. People can tell a lot about a person by the hat they are wearing.

In this scripture Jesus gives us a new kind of hat to wear. A hat called love. “Love one another as I have loved you. By this love everyone will know that you are my disciple.”

It is so easy to speak of this kind of love but another thing to do this kind of love.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

Herb, your explanation of falling in love reminds me of when my hubby and I were dating and after we were married. Like you said we went out of our way. I'm sorry to say I don't do that as much for Christ. I think sometimes I have a hard time with that because He's not physically here with us. I'm not blaming Him, I just need to be more creative. Thank you for opening my heart and eyes.

Deb, I love what you said. Very good in a nutshell!!!

How do we show our love for him? Being the best we can be, kind hearted, giving, truthful! Praying, doing our devotions, reading the bible. When problem arise, we need to go to him, ask for his help! Sometimes it is Please Jesus, Help! Be patient. ( my problem ) Sometimes he does not answer right away! There is a good reason! Well that's my though! Deb
