I will let you know. I like fruity recipes. Especially for chicken as I ate so much chicken as a kid since it was cheap, that I really don't like it now. So I find ways to doctor it up, as it is a great source of protein which I need since my surgery!

I do the same thing Dari, I fill my water bottle with iced tea and sip on it all night long, there is a dispute as to whether you can use it in place of water. I was told when I was in WW and T.O.P.S, as long as it wasn't sweetened with sugar, it could count as water. Now since my surgery, I have been told as long as it is not caffinated if counts for water, but I think they tell us that because we can't drink caffinated drinks. So I have adjusted to decaf tea and it tastes as good. When we went out to eat last night at a restraurant with friends, I forgot and ordered a glass of tea, and I could taste the difference and didn't really like the normal tea.

Also, I have really gotten to like fresh pineapple. They have been rather nicely priced lately and the wife and I have been enjoying pineapples, strawberries and other fruits. I am trying a recipe tonight for grilled Citrus Chicken, that has a salsa with mango, kiwi, lime, pineapple, and honey and soy sauce. I will serve it over rice or angel hair pasta. I think it sounds delish.

I am addicted to water. You read that right. Water. I tend to sip constantly. Like some folks chew gum, I sip water

I have to cut down because my sodium level dipped under acceptable level. Who knew this could happen?

My level is in range, barely. Thanks for the prayers.

Hello Dari, thank you so much for your kind words. The health drinks I am making are from recipes that came with my Nutri-bullet.
As for an idea for an evening treat, what my husband and I have been having is cold fresh pineapple. Not only does this taste yummy, but it is good for us.
At night try to drink liquid, maybe a nice big glass of ice tea, or a smoothie. I like to take small sips and this I find satisfies me.

I shall take this mountain

It sure works for me. I add butter buds or liquid butter *with the pump in small amounts. Sea salt sometimes, even nuts or rarely chocolate mini semi sweet chips. Just enough to change the flavor up.

I am crazy about air popped popcorn & I have a little Presto microwave popper which is perfect in the microwave. I also like Skinny Cow ice cream bars, which are 100 calories and 2.5 fat grams. However, they are not cheap. Also, Laughing Cow cheese wedges which make a good snack with crackers of choice. Then, there's the Purity fudge bars which are 100 calories and 0 fat grams. Here's an odd fact! Since I started exercising, I started feeling a little weak. I found out about the Special K protein drinks & I drink one every other day. They are 190 calories and 5 fat grams, so by every other day, that averages 95 calories and 2.5 fat grams per day and is well worth the expenditure, as they seem nutritious. Seems I wasn't getting enough protein for the extra effort. The drinks are good, too! I just had a strawberry-banana one here at work for morning break!

I have the frozen fruit bars all the time. That is what I normally go for or my Skinny Pop popcorn. They have a new white cheddar Skinny Pop that is fantastic. But makes it hard to limit the amount you eat!

Relisa you're an awesome encourager and you have such a sweet spirit. Are you making up your smoothie and juicer recipes or are you finding them? I am a at night eater also and haven't found anything to substitute it with. The sugar free fudge pops sound like a great idea though.

Hugs to all my team mates. Keep up the awesome work. Thanks for sharing what has been working for you as you tackle the battle of the bulge. Thanks for also sharing your feelings and thoughts as you go through the process. Thanks for the prayers. I am on standby for July 1 if a surgery gets cancelled they will move me in that time slot otherwise it will be July 3. My wife works for this surgeon and she has briefed me on what to expect. Sounds like things have changed from the past, as they say my hand will be weak for a couple of weeks, but I need to exercise the finger right away. I am sure she will keep me in line. I have been trying to imagine life without my right hand and it is miserable! I don't know how I will survive, but I am sure that with the good Lord's help I will manager. Thanks again for everyone's prayers. I appreciate it.

I believe that what I have been losing is inches and belly fat. I believe this is what people in my circle are seeing in regards to my body's change. I love doing health drinks. I find that I am satisfied after having my morning drink. My goal is to add one for my lunch and have meat , and veggies for my evening meal. I have noticed I do not want to eat as much. I do love a good tall glass of raspberry ice tea, especially at night time. On a good note, I have been noticing I am not wanting to eat at night like I used to. If I do have something, I have been having either fresh apple slices or fresh pineapple. This seems to meet my need for a snack and what is good about it is it is healthy.
I do still have an ice cream treat, but I found fudge pops that are sugar free and only 30 calories, or is it 40. All I know is that they are under 100 calories, which is awesome.
I am sorry to hear about the carpel tunnel. This is very painful. A friend of mine battled with this and had to have surgery to help ease the pain. In the past I have learned that this condition is caused by repetitive motion. I will be praying for you .
I wish everyone a wonderful week.

Bob, I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands back in 1995. It was a very good decision. I lost my job at the time but it worked out okay. Unfortunately it has come back now within the last year or so. My doctor attributes some of it to my weight. Okay. It is a very simple surgery but you do have to be out of commission for awhile. I don't remember it being painful though. I do remember having to keep my hand over my head for at least a week. That's when the recliner came in handy and also the OJ trial telecast. Seriously though I'll be praying for you Bob and you too Della.

I've always been so toned. even when I gained and lost again. This time, I'm not certain it's going to be that way. I think it's part of the reason I've stopped losing weight I want to be attractive with no clothes.
I know my health is more important..... so, we will see what happens on this gluten free diet. ?

This may sound funny, but I may need him for skin removal when I lose all the weight I want to lose. But I'm embarrassed. He mentioned to my wife that he noticed the floppy skin on my arms. But that is a long way down the road.

My wife works for the surgeon and he is one of St. Louis University's top Plastic surgeon and a top Hand surgeon specialist. My wife has been raving about some of the top patients that he has taken care of and the miraculous changes he has done for folks that have had great accidents While I know my procedure is so common place today, she insisted that I go with him. So I think my hand is in good hands!

Well, it looks like I am going to have to have surgery for my carpal tunnel. I have it severely in both hands, but my right hand is really bad. I have been wearing splints at night and during the day when I can, and had a cortizone shot in my right hand last week, but it has done no good. I am dropping things that I try to hold with my right hand, so surgery is probablly going to happen hopefully by the end of this week. I have a conference on July 10-12 that I have to wear a suit and it's formal, so I want to have the big bandage off before then. I hear it is only a 15 minute surgery and pretty common place, but painful. So If you don't see me around for a couple of days, and my notes have more typos then usual, that will be because I am only using my left hand to type!!! My wife is not looking forward to this. But I thought I would get mine in first, before she gets her knee replacement. I just keep thinking of all the things I have to do with my right hand!!! But I shall survive! Will appreciate prayers of course!

If you do not have a nutria-bullet, you can always try your blender. I have not tried to make the drink using this. I talked my husband into getting me my Nutri bullet and love it. This item is sold at Walmart and you can get it a lot cheaper then what I paid for it.
The one thing about the Nutri-bullet is it has a different kind of motor that extracts all the nutrients and makes it into a liquid. I do not know if a blender will do this. I know it will mix up the fruits pretty well, but I do not know about the greens.
I want to thank you for your encouragement. I so appreciate it. I have been exercising , but it is done through a non conventional way. I mowed this week one day for an hour. I have walked in the store all around, covering lots of floor. I have been cleaning my house, getting it ready to sell. My husband will be looking at a house near where our church is. We looked at it before and the owner has dropped the price . I believe this is going to be our next home. A little smaller, but then much easier to take care of. A nice yard so I can hopefully plant a garden or set up an area to enjoy the outside. If this happens, I probably will not be on very much. Time will tell, I just take one step at a time and do what I can do to help support the team and be faithful to my duties as a co-leader.
Wishing everyone a great week.

I'm so sorry you ladies have had to deal with steroids. That does not sound fun at all!!

Relisa I was checking out your Insulin Regulating Blast. I wrote it down but I don't have a Nutribullet. Would a blender work just as well?

Thanks, IGNITE! I know all about 'roid rage. I have a neurological disorder called CIDP. At one point I was given such massive doses that I got avascular necrosis and the bone died in both of my hips. I had to have both of them replaced. That REALLY enraged me!!!!

Thanks for sharing. It is wonderful to learn from one another what works and what just does not work for each person.
I have another recipe to share with those who like to juice. As I shared with you, I just love my Nutri-Bullet. I would recommend this tool to anyone.
Today, I share with you an Insulin Regulating Blast I have used before and found not too bad.
NICE AND SLOW BLAST
2 cups of baby spinach, 1/2 avocado, 1 cup frozen blackberries, 1/4 cup rolled oats, 2 teaspoons cinnamon and top with water (I use 16 oz. water bottle) blend and drink

For my legs I drink in the morning a 8 oz. glass of lime tonic water. This helps with leg cramps because it has quinine in it. I also have been wearing medi pad socks that have made such a big difference.

I am so happy to be in maintenance and I am doubly happy that I finally joined the gym! My goad is to work out every other day. I have heard that you need to rest your muscles and not to work the same groups every day. My workouts are gradual...just adding a minute at the time, or 5 lbs when the move gets easy. I'm not in it to be an Olympian!!!! LOL!

I too struggle with my willful side when it comes to exercise. I did not meet my fitness goal last week and did not lose weight. I have time in the morning to workout but when the alarm goes off at 6am I hit snooze and snuggle for 30 more min. before work. I know I am blessed to physically have the ability to walk or go to the gym but there is a part that is so resistant and stubborn!! emoticon

And you are right RELISA4HEALTH - if the bad food is in my house - I will eat it - and not just one potato chip either. Have a blessed day tomorrow all!

Me too girls. I found myself saying the other day, "I am just not ready to give up ice cream". I do not eat a lot of it, but ice cream is not good if one has trouble with acid.
I was sharing with my friend, reflecting why do I not want to give it up? In honesty, I said out loud without a thought", it is my flesh. I like it, I want it, I am going to have it." This is an area that I am working on , my rebellious side in this area.
One thing I have found that has been working is having the health drinks for the morning and when I do have ice cream, have an ice cream treat. What is nice about this is the product is proportioned.
Most of the time I can care less about food. My trouble time is at night , when I want to snack on junk. My other junk food I have to watch out for is chips. I just love these things. I think it is the salt. I am learning with these is to not have them in the house. For me it is out of sight, out of mind. When I do have them , I have been having a small bag to go along with a sub. Once this bag is gone, it is gone. This tends to work for me. if I have this product, I will not want it for quite a while.

Hi Dell, yes acceptance has seem to have gotten in my way of what I should be eating. I'll be praying about that. I tend to be rebellious.

I am so glad the recipe sounded yummy , Della. What I love about it is it is healthy and easy to make.
Dari, you can do it. God will lead you in how to make new choices. I never had a lot of what I now eat before and I have found , it taste pretty good. Think of this as a new adventure.

Della, sounds like you're coming along with your gluten free diet! Praise God! I called a nutritionist and left a message today. I'm needing more detail and about what to eat and what not to eat with my different dietary needs. I'm becoming frustrated a little.

Praise God Della. I am so glad that I was able to encourage you in this area. My doctor is the one who reminded me of the juices as well. I have been making my health drinks now on a steady habit for my breakfasts. What I have found is by using frozen fruit, it makes the drink taste , oh so yummy.
Here is a muscle blast for you: 2 cups of baby spinach, 1/2 avocado, 1 cup blueberries, 12 almonds 1 tablespoon flax seeds , water or almond milk (about 16oz. ) Put this in your juicer and blend real well. I use my Nutru-Bullet.

Relisa,
You've encouraged me to juice, once again. though I can't have bananas, yet, I made an excellent drink with beets apples and carrots! it was yummy.
Today, I'm going to have gf spaghetti n spinach and use the same sauce I use for the regular eaters with their regular spaghetti noodles.
Later, I will have a salad with shrimp. I bought frozen pops to break up the monotony for all.

Hugs. Thanks for the support. I am looking forward to another fresh start. Praise God for new beginnings. My goal is to make a health drink for my breakfast and lunch. I would like to add a salad for my lunch. For supper I will have my meat and veggie.
I do not eat a lot of bread any more.
I got to stay away from French fries. I have been having these again with my hamburger when I buy it when out on the road.
I have not been having pizza lately. Last time I ate it had trouble with acid.
What are some things that you are doing that has been working for you?
What kind of exercises do you like to do to get your body moving?

Keep slowly backing out of the bad foods. On the pizza cut back to two pieces. You can do it. Do it for you! Make small changes and they will lead to big successes.

Hugs. I want to thank you all for your encouragement and support. relearning how to eat is not easy. I am doing better, but I have so much room for improvement. I have been making my health drinks in the morning again. I want to try doing another one for lunch and adding a nice tossed salad. I have cut down on the soda and chip intake. I have been also cutting down the ice cream. I love ice cream at this time of the year. I can care less about it in the winter.
Pizza, I love pizza. I usually have cheese and three slices. This stuff is hard to cut back. How do they just eat one slice?
I have been having a lot of trouble with my legs again.
I did mow my yard two days in a row, 30 minutes each time. This was my first time mowing. Yippy. I think I found my other task for exercise. I loved being outside and giving my yard a good hair cut. I came away feeling pretty proud of myself. emoticon
I got to find my hedge cutters and give them a hair cut too. My next project.
I want to get some tomato plants and maybe some bell pepper plants and grow these for a nice harvest. I love to watch things grow.
I have been very busy lately with ministry and so have not been on like I used to be. God is good!

I know what you mean Bob. I have this inner rebellion sometimes and I kinda go a little crazy. I have noticed too if I don't track it right away it doesn't get done at all.

Boy for as good as I have been for the last three weeks, yesterday I was bad! Well really Friday night and yesterday. Pizza, bread sticks, cini sticks - all the evils of Pizza Hut. Although, I didn't overeat, I know it was poor food choices. Last night I ate a whole bag of microwave popcorn! I don't know what is wrong, but I will get back on track starting today. It is a salad for dinner, and smart choices for breakfast and lunch. And more working outside!

Hi Relisa, I'm so sorry I haven't responded sooner. I've was having computer problems and didn't get them resolved till yesterday late.

I did good with no junk food while I was off line. I actually was afraid to have it in the house when I wasn't going to have any accountability or support. I was out yesterday doing errands and I went into a convenience store that was on the way to my Dr for a snack. I looked around in the store knowing I wouldn't be eating lunch. I decided on a package of Fritos Chili Cheese Chips. I purposely didn't look at the sodium because I knew it would be too high. I got in line and to the left of me was the candy. I saw the word Reese and it was the Reeses that is a flaky cookie. I grabbed it and paid for both. I ate the cookies slowly throughout the day. There were 4 stick cookies in the package. I was gone about four hours. I was using the bus as transportation so I walked a lot. About 3 miles so I didn't feel guilty and it's been a while since I had candy. I unfortunately ate the fritos in one sitting when I got home. I did end up eating a fast food lunch while I was out but, I only ate till I was full and brought the rest home and ate for dinner. Some success and some failure so I press on. I also tracked everything I ate so I saw the damage. That's always an eye opener. I should've tracked it before I ate it. I have the app on my phone and could've done that. Definitely next time.

I've also been journaling my food before and after I eat except when I'm out. I just had a thought I have a notes app on my phone that I could do that on too! Thank you Lord for ideas.

How've you been doing?

Thank you so much Lacy for sharing. I agree with you taking this challenge to change life time habits does take time. My number one goal is to put into place life time habits I can do. I have learned quick fixes or radical changes, do not work for me.
In this process of getting healthy, please celebrate the wonderful accomplishments that you have done. As for junk food, you will get away from it in time. I still have some of this in my house too, but I am working on keeping it out. The place we have to watch out is when we go shopping. I try to stick with my shopping list. If the food is not on my list, I do not buy it. Sometimes, though, my craving gets the best of me and I find myself eating something I have not had in quite a long time.
I will work with you on this area. Next week I will be adding potato chips to the soda I am not drinking.
Keep up the awesome work.
I go today for blood work to see how the new thyroid med is working.
Have a great day.

Relisa, I've enjoyed your motivations. I have one of them written down. But, I haven't put it in place yet. I like that you take it slow with them. I don't do well with a lot of changes at once. I'm sorry they changed your thyroid med. I know that can cause havoc on your body. It controls so much. Hopefully the tiredness will subside. I like what your doing about spending time on the back porch. I do believe my back patio is also calling my name to spend time with God and it'd be good for my doggies as well. Especially in the morning before it gets too hot.

My plan I'm kind of winging right now. My exercise has been good since Wednesday. I've walked everyday except today. I walked a lot yesterday and today I'm pretty sore so I'm sticking to a couple of chair exercises then pick up the walking tomorrow after church. I've still got junk food in the house and no one to blame but me. I don't know what the attraction is. I can't figure it out. I bought a couple of new notebooks yesterday to use. One as a food journal to see when I'm actually hungry, full, etc and if I really need to eat. I'm going to write down what I eat no matter what it is and why I'm eating it. Boredom, relaxation, hunger etc. I'm hoping that'll keep me aware of what I'm doing. Any other ideas let met know sister.

I have started a new blog on my page to record ideas I have been getting for motivation. I am happy to admit, my motivation is slowly coming back. I have been walking on my treadmill as I promised to do. I am writing down foods and keeping an eye on what I am eating.
I do best with routine, so every morning , I have been making for myself health drinks in the morning. I love to make a drink called deep purple. This is baby spinach, banana, blueberries, black sweet cherries and 10 almonds. Water is added to this drink and then it is blended in my Nutra- Bullet. This drink is noted for being good for anti inflammatory and above all it taste wonderful.
Today, I sat on my back porch and spent time with God in prayer. it has been awhile since I have been able to sit outside. The fresh air was so refreshing and the time spent in prayer, encouraged my spirit.
I have been making salads for lunch and have been allowing myself 70 calorie pudding for lunch and have been having fruit at night time fort a snack. I like to have oranges, pineapple or an apple.
Thanks for asking how I have been doing , Dari, I appreciate this.
The only other thing going on, is I have been battling with tired spells. I just went on new thyroid medication, so it could be this.
I am hoping that getting outside in the fresh air will help my body in this area.
How has your plan been going on dear reader? What things have you learned so far?
What things do you have to watch out for?

Relisa, have you found your motivation yet? Or has it improved? Please share. I could use some.

I have something funny to share if I may be so bold. I was sharing this after church with a friend of mine today and she thought it was funny, I think because it's true. Ok, I get paid twice a month. Once on the first and then on the third so consequently all my bills, groceries, gas, pretty much everything gets paid at the beginning of the month. Unfortunately I haven't learned the art of keeping money till the end of the month, well at least not every month. I say this because i was looking at my weight loss and gain on the Get Fit Club, at the beginning of the month I gain and at the end of the month I lose. These are usually significant. I couldn't figure it out till this month. I just went to the grocery store with the last of my money which was $23.00 that had to get me thru to the beginning of May. I have money to spend and I don't budget as well in the beginning and I spend more on "bad" food and at the end I have to be frugal and buy "healthy" food and what I buy has to last. Does this mean I should spend all my money at the beginning and only have healthy food left over? Will my weight even out? I'm just kidding. I'm trying to be funny emoticon . But, this is actually true. Good night.

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29 NKJV

Lately my issue has been with motivation. I notice that when a lot is going on, I shut done in the area of striving for my personal best.
I have not been exercising on my treadmill the way I would like to. I like to walk on this for at least 30 minutes, six days a week, but lately I am lucky if I walk on it three times.
I have been doing a lot of cleaning and sorting my house, which is a form of exercise, but I can't seem to shake feelings of down.
How do you dear spark friend, motivate yourself, to get up and get moving?
What are some things that have helped you push through these down times?

Hello Judi, I buy my Quinoa at Walmart. I find it near the pasta. Do you like Kidney beans, black beans, chick peas? These are also good sources of protein. I love these in a soup.
Eva taught me a wonderful recipe for sore throat and it works. 1 table spoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 table spoon of raw honey. You mix these together warm and drink.
I will be praying that you feel better.
My goal has been to eat a more alkaline diet. I am trying to eat more veggies such as salad greens, broccoli, celery, carrots, cucumbers, onion, garlic, spinach, sweet potatoes , and yams.

I shall take this mountain

About Quinoa, I have never even heard of it. Can you get it at a regular grocery store. Where would it be? I need more protein in my diet. Also, I have a virus with sore throat and have lost my voice pretty much. Warm salt water and herb tea with honey are good remedies. Any other suggestions? Judi

Quinoa tastes like to me like a nutty taste. I like it. I have been eating it lately in the morning. it is high in protein and very filling. I put 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in it and mix it with some almond milk. Quinoa is and ancient seed.

CAL6563 or anyone else who may know: What does quinoa taste like?

It's always a great idea to go less acidic.

Wonderful goals shared today, Cal. That is so awesome. I would love the recipe.
Thanks for your encouragement Della. I am determined and it does feel good. I am trying to put a new plan into play, one that will help my body become more alkaline rather than acidic.
The dressing Dari is Kens' Light Sweet Vedalia Onion. I have a Asian Ginger Vinaigrette recipe I got to put together and try this with my afternoon salad.
I bought some bell peppers just a couple of days. I got green, red, yellow and orange and cut them up immediately. I found this very helpful because I can use these in my daily salad, but also for a evening snack. I love the taste and it gives me the crunch I am looking for.
Today in my salad I added some chick peas. These are a good source of protein.
Tonight I am going to try some celery sticks with some almond butter on it. I will let you know latter if I liked it or not.
Keep your eyes on the prize. You can do it.

Great goals Cal6563!!! I'm always afraid to make exercise goals as I'm afraid I won't live up to them. I know I shouldn't let that stop me. Maybe it's just an excuse, hmmm. You and Relisa have inspired me today to cook some of the bulgar I have. I bought it a month ago and my daughter was going to show me how to cook it, but she's not been home at all. She cooked hers with taco seasoning and it was DELICIOUS!!! I preferred it over the meat because it didn't feel so heavy.

Setting some new goals for April.

1) Get a total of 900 fitness minutes....30 minutes a day. Hopefully it WILL get warmer in Wisconsin and getting outside for some walks/runs will help this. I'll be striving to get more than 900, but want to set a goal that is absolutely doable!!

2) Start tracking my food. I find this difficult, especially when I'm eating something that isn't easily broken down....maybe that's my problem?

3) Start eating fresh/clean foods and less junk.

4) Spend at least 15 minutes with my team, Hopeful Hearts Breaking Free!!

April.....here I come!!

Relisa, you ARE taking this mountain! You've come so far in the last 6 weeks or so in determination, etc.

I can see a difference in your level of determination and the price you are willing to pay for it, too.
Praise GOD~

I made Quinoa with cinnamon and Almond milk today for breakfast. You know what, it did not taste bad at all. Kind of nutty and the cinnamon made it taste yummy.
Today, I also had a nice tossed salad with spring greens, green, yellow, red bell peppers strips, and shredded carrots. Yummy. I cut up the bell peppers last night and have them ready to serve in my salad or to use as a snack at night. What I found is I love to serve fresh veggies with low fat sweet onion dressing. What is good about this product it was only 70 calories per serving.
I have also been drinking water with lemon, 20 minutes before each meal.
As I progress, I will let you know more of how this new program is working.
May everyone have a blessed weekend.
