I try to get them to at least twice a week after I get home from work either walk the dogs with me, walk to the area play parks or something. I just want them moving. The weather is nicer and I am trying to cut down TV, video game time.
So on last Wednesday night the kids and myself went to the Elementary school and weeded the gardening boxes. Each class has a gardening box and they had to be cleaned out before Spring break was back in session so that the classes could plant. Then we went on a very active 4 day vacation that include ALLOT of walking. So I can say we did 5 straight days of family friendly exercises.
Tonight five pta families are going to the elementary school and we and the kids are going to clean out all of the class gardening boxes. Each class in the school has their own gardening boxes that they plant and grow things. However they all need to be weeded and cleaning out for the new growing season. So 5 of the families are all getting together tonight for a beautification party at the school. It should be fun for the kids and get them outside. Hopefully it will not be tooo cold.
Last night we had cubscouts and I am the den leader for my son's group. I always have sisters that come to our meetings so my kids and 10 other scouts/siblings made bird feeders and then we went outside for a run around the school to get the crazy's out. I don't know if you would count it as family time but it was my family with my cubscout extended family.
Last night the kids and I worked on our nature boxes outside. We are planting a box garden (one the dogs can't get too). We planted tomatoes, cucumbers and yellow squash. The kids had fun and where fighting over who could water my flowers. Then we went to the back yard and I raked leaves while my daughter tried to train our youngest dog. He is 3 and not so bright. ha ha! She probably does not help the matter confusing him more. Tonight I am planning on taking the kids and dogs for a walk. Then come home and make homemade pizza and salad.
This months challenge is a family friendly challenge. I would like each person to log in each week of April three family friendly (get your body moving) things (each week) they have done with their kids or family. It can be taking walks at night, going to amuzement parks, taking the kids to the park to play, biking, etc. The goal is to help instill a healthy lifestyle in your children while at the same time work on yourself.
