So many different noises around the world, yet some are recognisable anywhere. I love reading what you all see and hear.

Walked up hospital hill and around through the college campus. Noticed the yellow paint on the curbs is not really paint but some kind of coating and it's cracked and coming off in chunks. Noticed the valley gutters are full of sand and tiny gravel from the recent rains. Noticed the new wild paint job on the stairs that lead from the lower campus to the upper campus. They get repainted by students every year the weekend before Festival Days.

Heard all the sirens and horns and bagpipes and horse hooves clomping getting lined up for the parade. Heard someone with a chainsaw clearing out branches from an old tree. Heard the noises from all the people heading down to the parade, shuffling and muffled talking.

First walking day of my second week.

Saw blue skies and white clouds.

Unusual variety of flowering plants set around my neighbor's property.

Unique ways people display their country mailboxes.

Heard a ground squirrel or other small animal moving around in the underbrush next to my driveway as I walked by

A large bird in the woods making himself known.

Someone was tapping on something like maybe wood with a hammer on their property behind my house.

Oh, YUCK!! Snails are my Kryptonite. I've got the heebie-geebies just thinking about a crunched one. We had them when I lived at the beach in southern CA. I almost never wear shoes....so you can figure it out. I would never have thought of London as having snails. In the restaurant biz we used to serve escargot and our behind the kitchen door joke was always, "Imported from the finest sewers in France"

I'm headed out for coffee and the suns just coming up. It's nippy as we had rain last night. NO more 90 degree temps for this year...the weatherman promised!

Very changeable day, air has a bite to it.

Noise from a tree chopper/shredder
Children in street going somewhere with their class
Neighbour asking how I was

Leaves on ground, just a few
Lots of sycamore seeds, and two lying together as if they were kissing.
Two snails, one had been squashed and its shell broken the other seemed to be looking on

The Lord is my light and my salvation. Who shall I fear?

On today's walk:

I heard the rain and the wind today. It was only drizzling when I left the house and by the time I was nearing home it was pouring.....luckily I had an umbrella.

I greeted people in the street so I heard their Hellos.

I heard hens clucking.

I think we need a week 3 title....

Today I saw the blue blue sky without a cloud, the still for a little while green green trees and felt the yellow sun heating my face. It was an absolutely beautiful morning.

The sounds are always harder for me. Maybe I'm wrapped up in my own little zone too much when I walk lol! I heard some people passing by on their bikes. And that's it.....it is a peaceful little village, but not this much. I'll pay more attention to sounds tomorrow.

Have a good week everyone!

My 3 things from yesterday

I saw

A car backing out of their driveway as I was getting ready to walk past. That could have turned out bad! Note to self pay closer attention to my surroundings & less to Bon Jovi tunes.

Drizzle on my glasses. Fall is definitely here!

Football flags of opposing teams. There seems to be neighbor rivalries!

Heard

Bon Jovi tunes in my ears. This is the 1st time I used my earphones. I had to be careful not to sing out loud. I could have scared the peaceful neighborhood!

Live each moment to its fullest!

My three things from yesterday

I saw:

puddles!
poodles!
pedals.

(It amused me to see a man riding a bike through the puddles with a poodle in his bicycle basket. Now, of course, I wish I'd taken a picture)

I heard:

clash of supermarket trolleys being collected
sound of cars on the wet road
distant chime of an icecream van (probably not many sales......)

Have a great Sunday, don't forget to take a rest day somewhere in your walking schedule.

sounds: someone whistling to get their friend's attention;
someone driving over the hose that rings to let the service person know someone wants gas pumped;
a car horn beeping

visuals: the hanging baskets are looking nice and full these days;
a car parked in front of the library with an interesting personal plate;
my Hubby pulling up to the library on his bicycle (I chose to walk to raise my step count)

emoticon Hope you'll have a great Saturday, Sassy. Sorry yesterday was not good.

From my Friday afternoon walk-still 89 degrees??
Saw (and definitely heard) kids getting off the school bus for the weekend!
Woman loading bags of groceries into her camp trailer.
The whole front patio of the Dairy Queen filled to capacity with ice cream eaters. (Our DQ closes for the winter and usually before Halloween so people are getting in their fix!)

Heard school bus grinding gears.
Locomotive horn and bells as train nears the crossing.
Crowd noises from the JV football game.

Well done everyone. I had a bad day yesterday so wasn't around much. I did walk, but it was a mistake, I'll probably blog about it later.

I'm so proud of you all. I love reading what you have seen and heard. Hasn't this week just flown by.

Oh dear, what a disappointment. I much prefer the thought of braided eyebrows. It gave me a giggle at the thought emoticon

However, I've often wondered how they manage to get them through the eye of the needle

notice 3 visual things. If you are in familiar surroundings you can still do this - for example, choose 3 items of the same colour that you have in your room,

I saw a little girl taking pictures with a pretend camera....she was so cute photographing the sky, motorcyclists, and other people.

I saw the beautiful blue sky with the clouds arriving for tomorrow's forecast rain.

I saw some friends in the street and stopped to chat for a few minutes (even if I stopped walking, I needed to rest anyway)

Have a great day!!! emoticon

Cold day today and raining.

Very heavy traffic - seen and heard.
People with cases coming and going - why do they have so much stuff
Pushchairs with stoic toddlers in new shoes
Rain and umbrellas
The noise from traffic blocked out other sounds - honest!

Three sounds
1. Cash registers ringing
2. People talking
3. Espresso maker at Starbucks sissing

Three sights - so easy at the Mall:
1. Boots - it must be time for fall!
2. Native jewelry half-price sale
3. Someone getting their eyebrows braided

A man rummaging through the garbage can for recycling & mumbling to himself.
The sound of my feet pounding on the bleacher steps.
The sound of my heavy breathing as I reach my 10th flight.

The aroma of someone's dinner as I walk past their house.
The aroma of barbecued chicken on the grill as I get closer to my son's house.

emoticon Night walking
3 Sounds:
Mercy flight helicopter heading towards hospital hill
Boxcars smacking together to build a train
Cat fight-first I think it's a child screaming "MMMOOOOOMMM"

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

Never give up what you want the MOST for what you want at the MOMENT!

3 sounds:
Canada Geese flying over
Children's voices
Hammering on wood (the working party mentioned on the blog)

3 visuals:
A tiny tractor
Bird splashing in a puddle
a Robin Red-Breast (he is often along the same stretch of path.)

Surprisingly no dog walkers! It's the first walk in a long time they have been conspicuous by their absence.

3 sounds: crickets and that 'hum' they make, blue jays screaming, the sound of a tennis ball being hit

3 visuals: a couple and their dog walking ahead of me, my friend's new (to them) condo, lots of black-eyed susans

Next step! Let's keep our eyes and ears open this week too. It doesn't matter if you are walking on the spot, around your home, on the treadmill or out in the open you can find something to tell us.

So.... choose one of the following for each walk (you can do one three times if you like, but make the results different)

1) listen for 3 sounds. Sounds from you iPod, TV, the country or town - anything is valid including the sound of your washing machine

2) notice 3 visual things. If you are in familiar surroundings you can still do this - for example, choose 3 items of the same colour that you have in your room,

Walk with purpose and enjoy your week. Don't forget that you can download your chart so that you can mark off your progress. 12weekswalking.wordpress.com/about/w
