I just did my 1st day of 30 day shred and I loved it! I have never been an active person and I always thought I would hate working out... I am not really sure why. I did the first work out and thought it was hard, but not so hard I couldn't finish it. I felt great afterwards and plan on doing it again tomorrow. I have a very clingy 8 month old so the fact that it is so quick is what initially drew me to this workout. My family and I are going to Disneyland for 3 days on the 13th, but I didn't want another excuse to not start something. I am also new to this site and hope to meet some new friends who have similar goals.

I have both her books " Making the Cut" and " Winning by Losing".
Years ago I have done both programs... now I am back trying to lose the weight I have gained :(.

If you are not used to working out I recommend her " Winning by Losing" book. It is a 12 week program that builds you up gradually.
" Making the Cut" is hard core ( in my opinion) it is 30 days of butt kicking workouts.

Both great books.. I am starting back with " Winning by Losing" the 12 week program.
Good Luck everyone! emoticon

About 5 years ago, I lost 30 lbs doing workouts from Jillian's book "Making the Cut." I love her workouts! I did P90X for about 5 weeks last summer and it KILLS! I had been working out consistently for weeks before that, which is the only reason I could do it. I have gained about 20 lbs recently and am hoping to do the same kind of plan, starting with Jillian workouts and working my way to P90X (so I don't burn out lol). :)

Good question SacredAmulet. I was wondering the very same thing. I'm thinking it's more geared to meat eaters as her books are. Hope someone can answer the question.

All, with Jillian's online program (the one tailored for the individual) does she have a lot of meat and dairy in there? Is there an option to tell the site if you're vegan?

I want to do it, but that's holding me back. I don't need it to give me an omnivore menu. emoticon

I think I bought the book a bit prematurely and wasn't entirely impressed with the information. If anyone wants it I am willing to send it with the understanding that it will be passed along to the next person who wants it. :) Send me an email if interested.

Making the Cut is great for the last few stubborn pounds that you're trying to get off. However, if you're at the beginning stages of weightloss, I would look at Winning by Losing instead. InMTC is tough, and the workout and diet plans are not sustainable for more than 30 days.

Hisartist, Hey i think I just finally got back over here. Gosh I am not on here as much as I am Jillian's site. Well if you want look me up over there we have a great thread over on the sweat area called It's All About Me, and it is lots of fun. My id over there is Renee0915 just like here!

Way to go with starting some P90X, I just finished the program and will be doing my blog this week on it. Now I am mixing Jillian's stuff up and then starting MTC on June 1st. Oh I also ran my first 5k on the 2nd it was a lot of fun too.

Renee, I just joined her online club yesterday, and it's nice to see the success someone else has had--it definitely helped me make the choice to join. I'm hoping that between this site, her site and a little P90X (which I'm starting in May), I'll be able to take off about 5 more pounds. I absolutely love her workouts, especially 30 Day Shred, and I'm hoping that the extra support and help developing a workout will help me bust through this little plateau.

I would like to drop 35lbs, I'll be happy with 25lbs but 35lbs is my ultimate goal. I tend to gain muscle fast, but have never been able to to a pullup. I am striving for that.
I think you have sold me on joining Jillian's site. Her site along with the support here--I think I might just make it. :)

Melissa,
Yes I do have a variety! Well I have been trying since November at getting these last 10 lbs off and well I am not having much luck. I just go back and forth. Though I do have to say that I have lost a lot of inches in that time maybe not lbs but I do know that I am a lot further than I was even 90 days ago.
I am really liking the P90X and actually just did my last Chest & Back with the program and increased my push ups by 34 and pull ups by 28. So I am really happy with that and can say right now my arms are on fire! Love it though. I will be glad to take a break and get back to what got me started and that is Jillian's stuff.
I have lost 35 lbs on her online program since I started and I have totally changed my eating. I have been on her site since March of 2008 and I am very happy with it the people there are so supportive!

When I did MTC I did my first round just one time thru on the circuits to get the idea of the circuits. I am on her online program and well I never used the circuits online just did her 5 disc dvd set and then did MTC. The second time thru MTC I did each circuit twice thru. The moved on to P90X where I should be finishing that here in 3 weeks and will work on her two new dvd's which I love Banish Fat and then will do MTC again in June.

What are meaning by pyrimid up? Are you talking the weights each time?

Yep, that's Jillian. Love that bod...I'm almost there, but she will always be my inspiration. I loaned my MTC book to a friend, so I can't look it up to see how I did the stuff...I'll try to figure it out and get back to you. I think if you double check her instructions, it will tell you how to do the workout. The pyramid thing varies from workout to workout.

ok, so i've got it now... but i'm a little confused. when going through each circuit, am i supposed to pyramid each exercise, or do the circuit 3 times pyramiding, or do i just do it once, and i end up doing a pyramid with the entire set of circuits for the day?

.... i couldn't find clarification in the book.

also, HISARTIST, is that a picture of Jillian Michaels? If so, WOW! Yeah, i'm in it for the bod!

thanks!

No instructions with the DVD. Jillian tells you exactly what to do. You just need a set of light dumbbells, as I remember. It's been a while...maybe I'll do it again today. Thanks for the motivation.

Day 2. I'm a little sore, getting more sore as the day goes on. But it feels good. Can feel the muscles. Seriously, anyone that wants a challenging workout dvd, get your hands on this one. On their own, the exercises are routine, but put them all together and at the speed that she has you do them, and wow. I can't wait to see how I look and feel in 30-45 days. I've decided to mix in a few other tapes and going to the gym too, so I don't get burnt out.

MTC is a book. The Shred video is along the same lines as MTC, but more condensed.

I just finished the 1st workout, level 1. It was good. Tough, but good. I'm in need of a good butt kicking, so I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next 30 days and seeing some results. I'm guessing I'll be slightly sore tomorrow.

I just bought a copy of Shred at Best Buy, I have been reading all the encouraging words and I hope I enjoy it. I don't think 20lbs in 20 days is feasable for me cause I don't have a lot to loose but I am willing to loose anything at this point. I have been on a plateau for quite a few months now.
I haven't seen the MTC video yet but maybe after I do the Shred video I will try the MTC.

Thanks HISARTIST! I've kind of determined that I do need to eat a little more. Seems like I can lose a little more weight when I eat sensibly than when I try to cut calories too low. Just need to eat good foods. I've got Jillian Michaels Shred coming, and a few others from swapadvd.com including some tae-bo. The classes at the Y are all at the wrong times for me, so this will work perfectly.

If anyone is interested in swapadvd, it is a great site where you can list dvds you don't want anymore and trade for ones you do. Give me a pm if you are and I can get a referral credit to get a dvd.

Welcome! I've done both, MTC and Shred. Personally, I prefer Shred. I hope you like it as much as I did. The great thing is that you can do it at home...no gym equipment required except some dumbbells.

I know what you mean about the plateau. Why is it that the last little bit of weight is always the worst to get to go away. I know, myself anyway, that I needed to increase the amount of food I was eating to get that last little bit to come off. Sounds wierd I know, but if you aren't eating enough it will be harder to loose the weight. You might give that a try. Good luck, and keep in touch! Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I found this thread, looks to be dead since November. Wondering if anyone is still around or interested in getting this one alive again. I'm getting the Shred dvd next week from Amazon. Already have MTC, but my gym isn't set up right for this, track is upstairs and weights are at the other end downstairs. I'll to MTC this spring/summer when the weather is better and I can run outside.

I'm trying to lose 11-15 lbs before this summer and swimsuit/vacation season. Cleaned up my diet. Lifting weights 3x a week, and doing cardio at the gym 4-5x a week. This will be a hard number to lose. I've been at this plateau for 3 years after losing 70+. Need something to kick my butt.

Post if you feel like it. I might keep on posting after I get the dvd and give it a try next week.

Hi, just found this site about a week ago, mainly to track daily nutritional intake. My goal is to lose 20lbs and increase overall strength and agility (so I can play soccer for at least another decade). Those 20-somethings are really fast!

I started MTC and running program back in May/June but quit after about 3 weeks due to plantar faciitis. Don't EVER play soccer barefoot. I like it back then, but never really got back into the groove until more recently.

I am finally focused (knock on wood) to pick up and get moving, and justify why I joined a gym. MTC is a great starting point. It keeps me focused while in the gym, I can modify it to fit my objectives, most of the workout keeps you in the lower aerobic level of activity with a boost into slightly sub-AT zones (BTW I'm heartrate zone training). Strictly looking at it from a HR training, this workout is great for fat-burning as you rarely, if ever, will go into AT (or anaerobic zone), but there are activities that do get you breathing heavy for minor cardio workout and may spike your HR near to your AT levels, which means I supplement this workout with cardio/resistance training and beef up the weight training. Your overall calorie burn will be lower than a really hard cardio workout of same duration, but on the good side, this kind of workout should boost your metabolism ability versus the strictly cardio translating to larger caloric burn throughout the day (at rest).

I do not follow her meal plan, but use her macro-nutrient ratios (or near to it) with the calorie estimate based on her formulation for my body type, hence the need for a nutrition diary. I'm down 1-3lbs, and about .5-1% body fat since beginning my overhaul (7 weeks ago). Not the big change, but slow and steady so I can change those bad old habits that got me into my "predicament" in the first place. I'm definitely feeling more fit, and other than a healing MCL, I'm still going strong.

Keep strong during the Holidays and potential eat-fests. Halloween definitely could have been worse. Instead of 10lbs of chocolates, I succumbed to about 2lbs.

I am not doing the plan but I find that the exercises that she shows in the 2nd half of the book are unique and refreshing. She has some nice variations and tweaks on some of the more common exercises that are quite exciting for someone like myself who has probably seen and done every exercise in every book out there.

Tannie, I think Jillian's 30 Day Shred Video is the easiest DVD you'll ever follow. She breaks everything down for you, explains it and has two others in the video--one doing modified and one doing advanced versions of the exercises. No crazy move combinations that you can't figure out...it's really great and I think tough. Good luck. If you pick it up, let me know what you think.

you should do ok. I didn't do her meal plan either, just tried to stay close with her ratios, and I still lost and toned up quite a bit. Good luck feel free to ask if any questions come up.

I'm very happy - I decided to try this program and did the fitness assessment prior to beginning and was shocked! (Shocked, I say!) that I could do 27 pushups in 1 minute. This put me into the above average category for my age. I never attempt to do them because I assumed my upper body was not strong enough, so I was expecting to do Zero. I guess all that time spent in the gym has gotten me in better shape than I realized.

I was in excellent shape for my age for both situps and wall sit, but only good for cardio. This doesn't surprise me because I have been lifting weights but not doing much cardio for quite some time due to time constraints.

Did day 1 today and am looking forward to the rest of the program. I am having to substitute quite liberally with food due to multiple food allergies, but I'm using her carbs/fat/protein ratio as recommended and tracking calories so we'll see how it goes.

I'm sure you'll be ok. One meal isn't going to hurt anything. Besides, the number on the scale fluctuates anyway...it's all in how you feel and how the clothes fit.

Hey, if you're in for a challenge and like to see results...this is the video for you. I regularly work with 12-15 pound dumbbells and I can barely do 8s with this program. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.

Has anyone tried Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD? It got good reviews on Collage Video but wondering what anyone here thinks about it. I am an avid Kathe Friedrich fan but sometimes her workouts are long and I need a shorter one some days. Always busy! emoticon

I'm doing my 2nd round of MTC for June and plan to do more of the workouts at home on mornings I have to be at work earlier. I plan on just trying to come up w/ a similar type exercise to replace the ones that require gym equipment or just doubling up on the ones that don't require equipment (the main thing is to replace it w/ an exercise that uses that muscle or muscle group).
This workout is very effective and I'd highly recommend it! (whether it be at home or the gym).
