Bonnie-It is kind of confusing if you didn't start at the top Forum, called General Team Discussion and read what JACKSGRAN wrote where she tells you not to post. It's kind of the instruction manual and mission statement. There are 3 groups on this 1 team. The BEST FOOT FORWARD group is for very beginning walkers. If you look at the schedule it is asking that you walk 11 minutes 3 times a week for Week 1. This is for people who are just getting started, recovering from an injury or have not done walking at all. That's the thread that this one is...BEST FOOT FORWARD WEEK 1.
The next group is BEGINNER'S WALKING. In Week One of Beginner's group it is asking that you walk 15 minutes 3 times a week.
The group that most people belong too is INTERMEDIATE WALKING. In week one of that the schedule asks for 20 minutes 3 times a week.
So if you read the Week One for each of the 3 groups you will decide which group you should belong to, to get yourself started. Then you will be posting with that group in the particular week that YOU are in. So while I am in Intermediate Group, Week 6, you would START in Intermediate Group, Week 1. I noticed in one of your posts that you said you had to do the week over. I think you mentioned an eye infection or something? You can certainly do that. There are many of us who walk every day. There are several people on this team who do 5K walks. There are several people on this team for are also on Walk Your Way to 5K Team which will prepare you for your first 5K Walk. There are lots of walking teams on Spark People. There are a few people ON THIS TEAM who walk 10K, 1/2 Marathons and Marathons. I will defer to JACKSGRAN, but the idea of this team was for those who needed encouragement to start walking. This team, 12 Weeks to Walking, is to get people walking. There were no teams on Spark People for people who were not ready to train for a 5K. There are none that are just for the purpose of getting people out of their chair for baby steps to begin a walking program, except this one that JACKSGRAN created.
It's part of why I caution some of the people who join that this is for beginners. There are lots of walking teams and all of them have different goals. There are running teams. There are marathon teams. THIS team was created to get people walking. It is evolving and who knows where it will end up. If you started in Best Foot Forward and did it for 12 Weeks and then graduated to 12 Weeks in the Beginner's Group and then did 12 Weeks in Intermediate Group you would be on the 12 Weeks to Walking team for 36 Weeks. I have a feeling that many of those who started in the Intermediate group will stay on this team long after the 12 Weeks just because of the friendships and encouragement. That's fine.
JACKSGRAN and IMLOCOLINDA post on all 3 groups in several different week threads because as leaders we feel like our job is to encourage each team member at the level they are. I'll find a way to post an article that explains how the Forums and Topics work on a team. Each team is free to do it their own way. We are a new team and growing and evolving. Some people create a new topic to introduce themselves instead of posting on the Topic, "Introduce Yourself" Some people "chat" on a Topic that is for posting what you see and hear. If you look at the Topic, you should be able to tell what the purpose of it is.
I do understand that it is confusing. Since only 5 Topics can show up on the main page under a particular Forum you may have to click a box at the bottom of that Forum to take you to the week that you are looking for in your own progression. JACKSGRAN put Weeks 5 through 8 as one Topic because after you have posted on Week One, Week Two, Week Three and Week Four you should have a good idea of what's going on. But I'm glad you asked. I will have her write a better description of how it is supposed to work...but the best laid plans....
I don't know if this answers your question?
