JACKSGRAN aka Sassy may be cooking up something for after the first of the year but we have not done challenges. We are 12 Weeks team with 3 groups. The links will show you the schedule for Intermediate, Beginner and Best Foot Forward.

Mostly we just walk and chat in the general chat thread or the walk with purpose thread is where you post what you see and hear on your walk. It's pretty laid back and about walking.

The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

It's no problem to walk when I work - I have to walk to get to work, but I ALWAYS gain weight in vacations. I'm setting myself 40 fitness minutes a day, except Sunday. This works well during term time. The next thing is to do it when I'm not working, and I have a year off work next year. Last time I had a whole year off, my weight went up a lot.

I fixed the link in the announcements so all you have to do is click "GO" once you open the page and it will let you register for the virtual race. I've suggested to Eliz that she do it as a 1K. I'm hoping we can get some more support for Judy in her Santa walk. I have a blue fleece pullover with a big lime green Grinch on it that says, "Mean One" and a red furry Santa hat with the Grinch in all his scowling glory. I'll be wearing that in lieu of the Santa suit. Check out the link and see if you want in. You can put in how far and walk/run and then when you finish just post your time!! It's all official like!! and I think you can even print out a little certificate if you are so inclined. I'll be doing mine very early as I have a busy day of volunteer work at the sr. center and then we're supposed to bet another big snowstorm mid-afternoon on Saturday. Join Judy!! and me...

Hi Emily

I'm sure you will settle into a walking routine in time. Don't fret, just let it happen. Have you printed out your schedule? Somehow, seeing it in print helps you focus. Looking forward to hearing about your next walk.

I just found this team on Wednesday. Back in the summer and early fall, I was walking 3-4 times a week. Now with my school schedule (yes, I'm in college, again after 30 years) and church activities, I'm finding it harder to find the time. I know the time is there, I'm just not adjusting my schedule very well. For example, I could be walking right now instead of sparking! I really needed to find this team to help me stay consistent and accountable. So I'm going to put my walk from Tuesday on here and go from there. I know I can fit in 2 more times this week!

I walked yesterday because I'm unsure if I could walk today. We have to take our son to the neurologist a couple of hours away, and there is church tonight. So I got my walk in yesterday just in case. Short walk, 1.25 miles...34 minutes.

I had two sudden deaths to deal with last week, so I had to put it off until this week.

Yesterday I walked 2.04 miles in 54 minutes. Not the fastest time, but movement is movement is movement and all movement is good.

I'm starting this challenge this week, as generally when I do walk it's just over 1.5 miles and takes me about 40 minutes. I would be out huffing it today but nooooo, it's raining! So after my doctor's appointment and after my husband gets up and heads to work, I'll be heading to my room to do about 40 minutes with my good friend, Leslie. She says 45 minutes is 4 miles, but yeah....*L* I'll take it. :D

Whew! Just got back from a good 50 minute walk. I missed my early morning water aerobics class and was asked to watch my granddaughter which almost made me miss walking!
So glad to get it in after all! Beautiful early evening, the 90 degree heat was zapped with a good, heavy thunderstorm! 73 is perfect temp! emoticon

and Courti you just walk however you want to walk!! We won't judge. Toes have to be willing to cooperate or the whole walk just kind of falls apart. My toes are still not 100%. Maybe should have taped them when they were healing. Live and learn...and yes, getting old is the pits...like Bette Davis said, "Old age ain't for sissies."

Yes, DH always enjoys the walks once I can get him to start!! Exciting news. The county has created what's known as a "dust control zone" on the cross road about half a mile from my house. It's a lovely hill down, then up, then down again (reversed on the way back) and leads to a paved road with a lake!! Not sure how long a walk it is - maybe two miles? If it isn't too hot, I'm going to give it a try on Saturday and maybe take my camera.

Hi, I forgot and just walked my normal way yesterday. I start out slow and ease up then back down all with in the 20 min. I'll follow the guidelines today. I'll probably walk everyday as I have other team that I'm doing a walk. I want to get a mile in but going slow won't get me there and if fmy foot bothers me....well, so much for that. stupid foot. Getting old....but don't really feel it. emoticon The older I get the younger the age seems.

emoticon Welcome to the team CANDACEL.

Stacy-Did DH enjoy the surprise walk?

I slept a few hours and got up and walked for 30 minutes. It was just too hot to go much longer. Drove 3 towns over for lunch with a friend, came home and puttered around and then went out for another hour long saunter before dinner.

I'm really hungry tonight. Had a lovely salad for dinner, like an Italian Sub without the bread, shredded lettuce and beautiful halved grape tomatoes (home grown) and some red onion and diced green and red peppers and black olives and pepperoncini peppers and of course the pepperoni and ham and salami and motz. So I know it's something else. I think I'll take a little midnight stroll and ponder what's really going on!

I saw the hoop video awhile back and thought it would be great fun to do! I will have to think about getting one while the weather is still good enough to do that in my back yard. ;)

Today is a water aerobics day. My dh and I walk to the Y early (leave the house at 5AM) swim or walk in the pool and then enjoy our class together. Oh, how I love it!

I hope everyone is enjoying walking with a plan!

Have a great day! emoticon

I did a bit of research and the hula hooping blog came from MOSTMOM1. If you check her page and then click on see all blog entries it's the one from 6/13/13 called "It's All About the Hoop." She is very good.

Good morning IMLOCOLINDA! I remember that video. Yes, it was good and it made me laugh too. It looks such fun - but if I'm as good now as I was when I was little I'll spend too much time getting tangled up to think about it now! I've heard others say that it's a good way to exercise, so if anyone feels the impetus to try - go ahead!

IMLOCOLINDA - now that you've told us you just need to get that hoop made. And we will be expecting a video blog showing us how to do it when it's done emoticon

There was a great video blog right after I started SP-around the 8th or 10th of June and the woman and her daughter "hoop". It inspired me to check it out on the internet sites that she recommended. Funny part was that I bought the cheapie kid ones for my mom and myself and neither of us could do it. She was laughing so hard because she couldn't do it when I was a kid and my sister and I spent hours with our hula hoops. Find out that the kid ones are way too small and too light for grown-ups. So I bought the tubing and connectors. Still haven't put one together but it's on my list for this week. If anyone is interested I'll try to find the name and date of that video blog. It really inspired me and looks like so much fun. One of the tips was to reward yourself with something besides food for meeting goals so I thought this would work out on so many levels!

IMLOCOLINDA - I really would like to try hula hooping but lack skill. they sell them at the sports store across the street in the mall and I do look at them but haven't tried. Maybe that will be on my reward list for the future

Oh MADEIT3, I'm so jealous you got 25 points on the wheel. I just keep getting 2 or 3. Good thing it's not a roulette wheel with real money bet!! You can do any other thing on the daze that you are not walking. I'd like to try the belly dancing too as I certainly have the belly for it!
I'm making myself a "hoop" so I can do the old hula hooping. Bought the stuff as a reward for myself when I lost 15 lbs.!!

Well, I'm not sure about the water aerobics, but the belly dancing sounds like a good time. Can I substitute step aerobics for water aerobics? Walking 20 minutes today - day 1 of the challenge - sounds like what I can do!
