How about canola, that's heart healthy also, and it doesn't solidify.

good to know and thanks for answering Donna. I am supposed to keep the food in the frig while marinating so I don't think using Olive Oil is the answer.

Olive oil solidifies if put in the fridge. If you use it for salad dressing you have to let it come to room temp and shake it up good.

Donna - I use Olive Oil when cooking and such. Yesterday, however, I made up a no salt marinade for some marinating steaks. It consisted of Olive Oil, Vinegar, and whatever spices you like on your steak. I made it up, put it in a dish, put in the steak and made sure there was some on top of each piece as well as underneath it. I covered it and put it in the frig. This morning I took it out of the frig intending to turn the pieces of meat. I was surprised to find that the marinade had separated. There was a liquid on the bottom half and the top was a semi-solid of what looked like fat like you get on the top of soups and stuff when you've cooked them and are letting them cool. Anyone else ever had that happen? I thought it weird! The steaks had a nice flavour and although not really tough, they weren't that tender either!

I thought I'd never eat eggs or baked potato or corn-on-the-cob again because I thought I could NOT get used to no-salt...I was wrong...I now PREFER then all without. I do spray the corn lightly with olivio. I'm thinking of trying it with a spray of vinegar, that tastes salty but isn't. Another food I got used to is low sodium bread. I bake my own most of the time, I like hearty breads, but occasionally (when it's too hot to bake) I buy the store brand low sodium whole wheat bread, and it's not bad for squishy bread. I'm also trying to get away from butter, ven though I use the unsalted. I like the Mediterranium diet and they use olive oil instead, so I've been spraying my bread with olive oil. I use the spray, because if I just dipped it in oil like we do in Italian restaurants, I'd eat way too much.

I have found that with popcorn I can use just regular (salted) butter now and couldn't originally. Hopefully this will happen with the corn on the cob.

We all have different tastes and likes and dislikes. The less salt I have, the less I can tolerate and the less I can stand a salty taste. There are things, however, that I do not like at all without some salty seasoning on (corn on the cob and eggs in particular). I would rather go without the food I want salt on than have it without salt or without something that looks and tastes like salt. I tried Mrs. Dash on things and while it's nice, it does not taste like salt and because I want that salty taste, it just doesn't work for me. If you are looking for a seasoning that ads flavour, but not what salt does, it's great. The same goes for the suggestions to use lemon instead of salt - it gives a whole new flavour to things which isn't what I am looking for. Does anyone else find other herbs do not satisfy them and use No Salt (or the American equivalent)?

Have used some of Mrs. Dashes also but have a hard time chosing the right one.
Was raised on salt and pepper only. Any suggestion which one to use on corn on the cob.

use a salt replacement called "No Salt." It is potassium. I use it at the table and when cooking/baking.

I LOVE corn on the cob but find it hard to eat without salt. Today I had it with Old Bay seasoning but that is so high in sodium so not the solution I need.

Anyone else deal with this?
