Today is pushup day for me. Anyone want to join me? My plan is to do pushups Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Today, I plan to do 3 sets of 10, and see how I feel at the end. Monday, that last 2 were quite challenging, so I don't need to increase what I do YET.

Okay, I have started doing pushups again. I did last Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Monday. I did 3 sets of 10 both Saturday and Monday. Need to keep at it, would like to continue on 3 days a week.

Can't do pushups until I get clearance from the Dr after surgery. It's been a week. I know I've lost stamina. But I'm still healing from major surgery too so trying to look at it positively. How are y'all doing?

I got in one set of 20, and then did to failure and got 36. I was curious how many total I could do. This is a huge improvement from when I started originally at 11.

OKGOATGAL, thanks for the kick in the behind that I needed. I had been doing 3 sets of 15, kicked it up to 3 sets of 20 today. Those last 5 on each set were challenging.

I envisioned it as a place to encourage each other to do the pushups, as it is a good strengthening exercise requiring no equipment. So, let's cheer each other on. I have skipped two days, so I guess you just gave me my nudge to get at it.

I kinda got burned out on the hundredpushups.com plan, so I quit! I just decided that I didn't care whether or not I could do 100 consecutive pushups. I did however, do 3 sets of 10 pushups yesterday. If anyone wants to join me, feel free to post here how many pushups you are doing, and if you increase we will all cheer for you. Right now, I seem to be the only one here, but hoping that I can get some others motivated. It doesn't matter how many you can do, even if it is 0 - you can start with wall pushups. The idea is to increase your strength, which is shown by the increase in numbers of pushups you can do.

After 10 days off from pushups, I was surprised that I was able to do the next "assignment" which was Week 4 Day 3. It called for 23, 28, 23, 23 and as many as possible, for which I achieved 35 - shocked me. So, now back to the hundredpushups.com site to see what Week 5 and 6 hold.

Today was pushups day!

20, 25, 20, 20, then 30 for my max today! I was quite pleased. I did take extra rest between sets though - the plan says 90 sec (or more if needed) between sets. emoticon

I don't know if anyone else here is working on pushups, but I have not updated recently. Yesterday, I started Week 4 of the hundredpushups.com program. I did 18, 22, 16, 16 and 25 for my max. Although this program builds up gradually, I found it difficult to get the 25. I am not sure if I need to add an extra rest day between workouts, or allow more rest between sets. If anyone has advice on this, please share.

Didn't get it posted yesterday. I took 2 days of rest because I seemed to have maxed out at 24 pushups. Yesterday, I did 14, 19, 14, 14 and 23 for my max.

So, life happens and I got out of the habit of working out and checking in on Sparkpeople. I re-started the pushups challenge, and started week 3 of hundredpushups.com challenge. The program called for 12, 17, 13, 13 and max - I got 24. So, I am pretty happy with where I am right now.

I finally got home late. Walked some and did some wall pushups. Back's much better but not quite healed.

Jennifer, you're doing great. Keep doing as much as you can to work those muscles. Remember it's all about strength exercises and gaining lean muscles. No stressing about anything else. Lots of hugs.

Accountability time. It had been a week since I had done pushups. I was getting discouraged because I felt like I wasn't advancing. So, today, I did another initial test - do pushups to failure. I got 28! So, I went back to week 3 and took the workout based on my new baseline. That looks incredibly challenging! So, I really have progressed, just not enough to move on to week 5. I dreaded doing my pushups all day, but now that they are done, I am happy with the results.

I fell off the wagon on the pushups. Today is a new day and a new week. I may just try to see how many I can do fully rested. I need some focus. Being unemployed SUCKS and I have been so down I don't want to do anything and am having trouble motivating myself.

So, now that I have told all of you I am going to do my pushups, I need to be accountable and DO them.

No worries. What's important is that you start and continue it. Also reading on the earlier post, it's very effective for the muscles when we do strength exercises that we rest one day in between. Because muscles need time to repair and rebuild from the workouts. And it's been proven to be very effective too for the workouts and weight loss journey. Anyways, we can discuss more if need be. Jennifer and I are doing it Mon-Wed-Fri a week. It's up to you however it fits your schedule. For me personally, I've noticed if I walk a few thousand steps, I can do a lot more pushups as my muscles are all warmed up from walking. It doesn't have to be just walking only. Do any cardio first before strength exercises and it's quite effective.

Just got back from a mini vacation up the coast. sitting in the car for 7 hours leads to very few steps, :-) so i started week 4 today day one. I'll be back on track by the end of the week.

I'm still playing catch-up and sorry I didn't get a chance to post earlier. Had a really grand time visiting friends/family and their pets. I didn't realize until Monday night when I tried to do the pushups I couldn't. I think I pulled or stretched a muscle on my back side Especially when I bend down to pick up something I can feel it. Otherwise I can't tell. I did do the wall pushups and didn't have problems. So for this week I'll just focus on my wall pushups and re-do the week next week.

Well, that's a bummer. Week 5 starts at 31 pushups. I think I will be doing Week 4 until I get those numbers. I also noticed that starting with Week 5 you get more sets and less rest on days 2 & 3. Hmmmmm. Well, I will try to keep hangin in there and doing pushups. I know my upper body is weaker than my lower.

Welcome, Federman! Hope to see you posting increasing numbers as time goes on. If you follow the thread back to the beginning, some of us are using the hundredpushups.com website to give us a guide for our workouts. It takes you from where you are to being able to do 100 consecutive pushups after 6 weeks on their program. While that is a noble goal, don't feel like you have to have that as a goal. Personally, I just like seeing my numbers go up each week, and really do not have a desire to do 100 consecutive pushups.

I wasn't in it necessarily for getting to 100. I just liked how their personalized workout took you from where you are. I have seen a lot of improvement in myself. When I started, I got 11 pushups. Now, my max is 22. So, I have doubled the number of pushups I can do. I need to work on my abs also, but I always feel them after the pushups, so I haven't really pushed the issue with myself.

Just you and me..Lol. I know Jojo's been really busy at work and our jobs come first and getting ready for her vacation. I think she'll be out. Plus it is getting harder and on occasion I'm attempted to give up also. But you know what it is helping my entire body and helping my clothes fit better and walk more straight etc etc and I just cannot give up. I don't care if I only do certain number of pushups as I'm still satisfied. How do they say it quality and not quantity. Lol
Anyways, week 5 day 3 finally done. I love to keep going with a different challenge after this week. Maybe crunches or dumbbells or something else. We'll see. But let's not go up to a 100 this time. Maybe realistic numbers.
Anyone have any ideas to help our challenge and join us? Not just say yes and never start but actually try it like we are. That's the whole idea of pushing yourself. Give it a try. What have you got to lose.

I'm sorry, Jennifer. Hope starting again is working out for you. You can also do like I'm doing. I don't see myself doing 100 pushups but since I haven't done pushups in a long long time, I loved the challenge. So, I'm doing wall, modified, and un-modified version pushups. All of them with different numbers. It's been really helping me a lot. Not just my arms and shoulders and back but quite a lot of my muscle groups.
Sorry I didn't post on Monday. I just finished doing it in the evening. There's no getting hopes high or hopes down as actually exercising. I'm just doing the best I can. Some days I'm about the same and some a fewer than my usual pushups but I'm doing it and it's way better than before my starting day when I couldn't even do one.
So don't worry and just be proud that you're actually working out your body. We shouldn't be aiming for a certain quantity anyways since we're starting from 'scratch'.
Do the best you're able to and work on those muscles. You can do this!!

Hi...I' got all out of whack last week and started week 3 over again. Day 2 of week three is done. Just wanted to check in since I've been so wrapped up at work I've been a little MIA.

Week 4 Day 1 done. It was kind of harder to do and didn't do as many this morning as I didn't warm up enough and barely walked because I had to go to the dentist. Would like to try again this evening only if I get a chance to walk. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the workout this morning.

Awesome, Jennifer! You Rock!! We all felt the 'tired' day yesterday. I'm going to blame it on the weather as it's so easy and move on. Actually, it's happened to me on too many occasions to count that my mood and body being tired act up whenever the weather changes. So, I've finally learned to accept it but forget most often. Yesterday was the 1st day the weather gotten better almost perfect from all those hot and humid days. Today's going to be much much better day.

Didn't go out for my walk till after 7pm, then came in and did week 3 day 2 of pushups! Struggling with motivation a bit, but didn't want to let my spark friends down.

Week 3 Day 1 (yesterday) - Done

I agree. I like to do my pushups after my walk so my muscles are all warmed up. Yesterday was the first day I couldn't increase my pushups (or I didn't want to). I was so tired and hot from walking outside in the afternoon and totally forgot until late last night after my another walk. Today is much cooler than last few days. So hoping tomorrow will be better.

For you new(er) members, remember not to do your push ups on back-to-back days. You need that day of rest between doing the same strengthening exercises.

I finished week 3 workout 1 yesterday evening, but I goofed. I had looked at my card that I wrote down my workouts and I wasn't at home, so I did them at my daughter's boyfriend's house. I remembered 10,12, 9, 9, then max. I looked at it when I got home, and it was 10, 12, 7, 7 then max. Well, at least I erred to the side of more pushups!

So, my 18 yr old son saw me doing my pushups and he decided to go check it out. The hundredpushups website told him to start at week 3. emoticon

So, then he linked to the sit up challenge that was on the pushups site, and it told him he needed to find a more challenging program.

Youth is SO WASTED on the young.

LovelyPam, you do what works for you. I wanted a little bit of a stretch, and I didn't think I would challenge myself enough. So, by following the hundredpushups.com training plan, I don't have to think about it, just do it. Are you able to do more pushups than when you started? If so, that was the goal and you are winning.

Week 3 Day 3 finally done. I think knowing that I just started doing strength training, I'm just doing pushups (modified, un-modified, & wall pushups) and increasing every time I'm doing them. Just wanted to throw it out there that I'm not following any links but just going by our pushups challenge. So far I'm doing great only because I'm doing them slow as a turtle but at least I'm increase it every time. Lol.

I read it that way as well, but I also looked at my number firmly in the first range. When I did the initial challenge, my number was at the lowest point of the second range, and I couldn't even complete the first workout. I think I will test, but then use my judgement on if I think I can manage the workout. Right now, the range I have selected looks challenging but doable.

Hi Spinning. I just re-read the week 2 instructions and at the end of the week you are supposed to do another test to figure out where to be in week 3. So then I went to week 4 and saw the same thing. I guess at the end of every 2 weeks we are supposed to re-test to exhaustion to see how to start the next week.

it's been fun to see the changes in the numbers I can do. hope you are enjoying it too ;-)

Week 2, Day 3 completed. I am not sure how to interpret the instructions for week 3. Am I supposed to do another "initial" test, or should I use the maximum from my final set of Week 2, Day 3? I wrote down the plan based on my numbers from my max(18) at the end of my day 3 workout.
