For those who may assume that any challenge and not just walking challenge is for those who are strugglers and need help are quite mistaken. This is a team effort and everyone is welcome. If we didn't have any challenges then what's the fun in doing the same routine over and over again. By joining SparkPeople, we're committed to improving our lifestyle. This isn't a diet program or just because we've lost weight so let's go back to our old ways. That would be yo-yo dieting. And we are not about that.
Since I've joined SP last year, I've accomplished so much. And I will never go back to the old me because this is who I am now. I am much much healthier than ever. I love trying out new clothes and give up the old. Lol. Last year I went on lots of hikes by doing close to 30k steps. Which I can't wait to start again. But my point is even if I relax and walk less don't assume I'm struggling. I'm past that. Even if I take breaks especially with my healthy eating ways, I'm comfortable how much I've accomplished and where I am today. And so will you. Starting is always hard but we must try and try until it becomes a habit and be a part of you. Be patient with yourself. Keep encouraging and you can do it. I couldn't walk a few steps without getting out of breath. And look at where I am now. Some of you and also including those who are readers only but not joined the team. Always think of yourself as making a new lifestyle. Slow process. Yes it is. But by being patient you'll realize the new you and leave the old behind. You can do this.

Determined to get back into my exercise routine. Did a mile and a half on the treadmill. Plan on doing some swimming a little later.

Also swam for 30 minutes today (then I relaxed and floated around the pool for another 30!!)

Five of the 7 days I was in Hawaii, I got up and did my Bikini Body workout before breakfast. None since being home. I excuse myself for yesterday. I got up to go do it and realized I might need my arms to not be rubbery. I was right. We went to a zipline adventure course. I am pretty sore this morning. That course was quite a workout! Back at it today.

LFLYNT1069 I try not to double-dip. So on the fitness tracker I will just add notes and let Fitbit decide on how many calories it wants to give me (automatic sync). So I wear my Fitbit everywhere and use it whenever possible. I even rigged up a way to wear it in the pool. It didn't count for much but to me it was the principle.

I wear mine during treadmill use as I don't add treadmill as a form of exercise but only towards walking. But when I use the stationary bike, I take it off. I think it's more of preference. But for the treadmill, if I have it on high incline, I'm also getting a very nice workout and definitely less steps so I take my Fitbit off as it's not worth the steps as I can easily make it up walking outdoors.

My daughter loves just dance games
We have two or three at the house and try to get some time in at least two or three nights per week
I found my pedometer so I am tracking my steps while up and moving during the day
however
I do take it off when exercising - not into the double-dipping on my steps
I don't think I can count my treadmill steps as pedometer steps as well.... kinda unfair
or am I wrong
Do you all count those in with your pedometer steps?

Didn't read completely through all the responses but I love Just Dance on the Wii for cardio. For me it is a fun and motivating way to get 10 minutes in if that's all the time or energy I have.

Well
Let me tell you how my Monday has been
no Im not a griper or complainer
typically I am a problem solver whenever it is possible...
so
this morning - trying to get myself back into the school routine
I was awake at 5am
coffee ready
laundry washing
dryer drying
emptied dishwasher
packed my gym bag
got dressed and left the house
spent my normal morning in the office
ate as I worked
finally had to opp to leave and hit the gym
YEAH
Its the only way I make time to get out of the office - otherwise I am a work-a-holic.
so I get to the gym
change my clothes
fold everything and put it neatly away so I don't go back with wrinkles
grab my shoes
sit down to put them on
and
uh-oh
Houston
We have a problem
I have one grey with light pink shoe
and
one grey with dark pink shoe...
ok - well I need to look more closely in the dark....
uh-oh
Houston
we have another problem
I have two right shoes....
Well
there went that workout
not allowed in the gym without shoes... not even for still weights, lol
So
Problem solved
I get to leave work 30 minutes early
and I guess Its swim time and/or Gazelle time tonight
I will get some sort of workout in within this day, lol

Hi, I have tried Zumba for Wii. It gets yo moving and that's what counts! I actually just this morning did Zumba on the XBox now that Hubby showed me how to use it. Both get you moving. If you never did Zumba before either will be hard to follow. But don't worry about the score just get moving it will come in time!

As for time. I think that is the hardest part for everyone. I started getting up really early but that wasn't sustainable. i got really tired and worn out. So now i try an do 45 min in the morning and then 10min burst of walking throughout the day.

Keep on MOVING everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have never tried the wii, nor zumba... BUT both looks like so much fun! anyone have any ideas?

as for your second question... finding the time. yup, that is a hard one. on days where i work 13-14 hour midnight shifts, it is REALLY hard. it really depends on you. for some people, it works if they do it in small increments (10 minutes here, 15 there), and as time goes on, finding other small opportunities to work out.

for me, i have 100 time wasting things that i am trying to stop, to make the time for working out. i love getting on facebook, checking e-mail, surfing the "net" in general. i have given myself a time allotment. in the morning, with my coffee, and once in the evening for about half an hour. or just try to find time savers, like never go upstairs (or downstairs) without carrying something that has its home in the opposite place. which then these things leave more time for workin' out.

also, my kids are 14 and 17, so it is probably easier for me (than moms with little ones), but they know that my exercise is "mom's time". just like how they have their own time for video games, being on the computer, hanging with friends, this is my time. they might hafta help out and do an extra chore, so i can work out. i know it sounds selfish, and it took me until my kids were this old, to understand, that i am a better mom, when i work out.

lastly, i now pay a "jedi mind trick" with myself (LOL!) my work out is part of my job. i have a very strong work ethic, and saying that being healthy (eating right and exercise) is part of my job, so i can have my dream career someday very soon... self defense/fitness instructor.

i hope this helps! and it doesn't hurt to reach out to spark friends to encourage you, too! you ARE worth it, and you CAN do it!

i have a few more recent ones of his (tae bo), they are quite intense... inferno, and explosion, fast paced, and gets me sweating... alot! i really like his, that are just cardio, it is really hard to find good intense cardio dvds that DON'T require equipment. i do strength/cardio one day, and just want to do just hard core cardio the next.

does anyone have any suggestions to hard core cardio dvds, that don't require handweights, medicine balls, or anything?

I have a Tae Bo dvd somewhere in the house. I didn't want to say anything until I found it. But by posting it here is the only way I'll look for it. It's really quite a few years old but I remember I used to get a great workout.
Have a great weekend everyone. emoticon

I did get a chance to check it out a little, Val. Then I got carried away from there and you know what happens after that. Fitbit friends started taunting and I had to get up and put on my shoe laces. Lol. I can't believe a lot of the stuff is free. Great workout videos. Everyone should check them out.

This week has been a good week:
Went 3 times to the Golf course--on my way to my 4th time
Played dozen of cardio and strength training videos on Youtube
Played WIO on my Wii

If you don't know what to do as cardio/ST, check out the Be Fit channel on Youtube; it's free and they have tons of workouts (different intensity, times,...). Really love this channel, I always find a workout that I can do.

I love tons of variety but my fall back is Zumba. Tonight at the gym is Toning Zumba so I get cardio with strength training. My favorite combination.

so far today just 30 minute walk at lunch. tonight I'm trying to decide what to so.

**Self implement tip - I have Tabata timed music in my play list and when ever a tabata song comes up I have to do what ever I'm doing high intensity to the music. Its just 4 minutes a song. My always seem to pop up when I'm arguing with myself about whether to stop or not.

Today I did 20 minutes of alternating high intensity and rest periods, followed by some stretching and core work on a ball. I saved my exercise for when my son's soccer team was doing their fitness session. Last week another mom and I worked out together during that time and we did it again today. Very nice to have a little interaction in my day.

Had the day off today. Normally that would mean lounging around and more than likely no workout. But not today, did a 2 mile walk to make sure I got in at least 6500 steps.

Went to the gym and did stationary bike (without my Fitbit) and treadmill for my steps. I used the incline for half the time. Usually I walk outdoors only. WooHoo!!

Besides walking today I tread water for 8 minutes (yea I thought I was going to die) and swam laps for an additional 15 (keeping the pool noodle under my feet so it was all upper body). My abs are now killing me!

this is AWESOME! exactly what i want! i do walking (TRY to do between 5,000-10,000 steps a day. (i use a fit bit)

i take off my fitbit, when i do strength training and when i am doing cardio...

as for my cardio program... i do cardio dvds... usually tae bo, biggest loser, jillian michaels, bob harper, or cardio kickboxing of some type. i try to do cardio 3-4 times a week.

i signed up for the walking, and the strength training, and have left posts there also. do we just post after we have worked out? if so, where?

thanks! this is just what i was looking for, and what i needed!
