Welcome to SparkPeople and our team, Ariel! And yes, so much information. You're not alone as we all went thru it. It's frustrating but our website has been updated so many times since I've joined. And learning and using new tools is overwhelming. I agree. I get bored easily and love new changes. I'm always having to change my routine so I won't get bored. But learning new things on this site and making learning new changes is frustrating at times. I used to post using my iphone but now after these new changes, I can't get it to work. I even updated my app. It's ok tho. Back to you learning new tools. Take baby steps. We've been there. And if you're consistent for couple of weeks on your fitness and nutritional food tracker. You'll have a good idea where you're off on your calories, carbs, sodium, protein, fat, etc.
Oh and make sure you save your food to favorites. It's easier to retrieve. If you get stuck, ask any of your teams or here and we'll be glad to help. Good luck.

I had the cold-flu last week and half along with so many I know. Including my parents and few friends. So I was stuck indoors all days. Hubby was so nice enough to bring or make healthy meals. I didn't have any energy left in me. Whew. So glad it's over with. Good riddance (riddens?). Never want it coming back. Should I continue? Lol
emoticon

A nice surprise coming up for you all. Well, nice surprise for me. My walking starts tomorrow. Unless I'm traveling or working in my mom's large garden, but I'll try to make up the steps.
Anyone else make any new year's goals? No? Ok. So if our team is quiet, and not posting any steps (which you totally don't have to) I just assume everything is fine.
Hugs to everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Holly emoticon emoticon
What a nice surprise and thank you for dropping by. Can't believe it's December already. I've been thinking the same thing. Since last year was all walking for me and this year clean eating. I know there's always room for improvement but I'm at a loss what goals to take on for next year.
Maybe start jogging. emoticon emoticon

Hope you're feeling better soon. I have aggravated an old knee injury, so I take Tylenol. I've also found that a Tommy Copper compression knee sleeve helps. They're expensive though....but there are other less expensive versions around. (Wish I knew that before buying the Tommy Copper).

I only did 4000 steps yesterday....but I'll be doing more tomorrow.

My Dr. sort of discouraged the NSAIDS because I was slightly anemic. I've been taking NSAIDS daily for...10 or 11 years now. I'd have to go back and look...because of my back issues. I'm no longer taking them and have a huge bottle of 800mg ibuprofen (VA...Ranger candy) but I have to eat when I take that and blah blah blah...and I'm not real sure where it is just now.... I just need it fixed so I can get back to normal. I live with pain, but having new pain is not fun. I did ibuprofen 3x a day the first week and 2x the second week. Just taking my daily tylenol now.

OKGOATGAL - don't know if you are already doing this, but take ibuprofen if you can. It has an anti-inflammatory property and is good for these types of injuries. I rolled my ankle a couple of months back, and had the PT at work look at it. He identified the problem, a ligament in my ankle, suggested stretches and exercises, but after 2 weeks and it was still bugging me, I went to the Dr. just in case I had a hairline fracture. Dr. said ibuprofen routinely, which I did morning and night. It finally resolved on its own after about a week of the routine ibuprofen. I am on my feet all day at work.

If you are able, ice and elevate it in the evenings after work.

I am not a Doctor, just sharing what worked for me.

thank you Lovely Pampa. Tis the nature of my job keeping me on my feet and hopping most of the day. I can't let my kiddos know I'm still hurting. They will take advantage because they don't have the tools yet to deal with all the stress in their lives. So I push hard most of the time. Life is GOOD and I love it.

Hugs and hugs Okgoatgal. We're depended on the legs ankles and feet to carry us everywhere. A lot we take granted until there's issues. Please try to elevate and rest as much as possible. Once you start the therapy program, it'll help get your ankles and feet to normal. Lots of love.

I don't tend to overeat much at holiday time because we just don't do big family shindigs. We celebrate, but just normal type stuff. Chili on Thanksgiving, a ham on Christmas.

My big deal is my stupid ankle. It is still giving me trouble and the MRI I had last week said I have torn ligaments and some other stuff, but the ortho dr hasn't called me back yet. Sigh. Wish they would so I could get started doing whatever I need to do to fix this thing and get back to no ankle/foot pain.

Hi team. Hope everyone is doing great. Just heads up. Tough days ahead. I've never paid much attention before until I joined SparkPeople last year. So when it came to Thanksgiving and Christmas last year, I became more aware of everything around me. How I was behaving towards food, exercise, weather, temps etc. I'm a lot more prepared this year during these holidays coming up so I won't make the same mistakes.
I did not change my ways last year but just became more aware of my habits and behavior. I truly believe these couple of months ahead are going to be much smoother for me.

As you make choices during these holidays coming, please select wisely and remember don't give up as you always get another chance the next day.

Also, wanted to say that I needed the push to create this team last year for my accomplishments and you all have been a tremendous help to support me. What I've learned. It's ok to make mistakes but learn from it. And move on as you always get another chance to be healthy. Last year, I barely walked and ate junk foods before joining SP. And now, I've lost inches (fat..lol), lost weight, became fit from lots of walking last year and working out this year, lost interest with junk food as I stayed in the kitchen more. I couldn't cook or didn't want to but either case made time to be in the kitchen. Practice practice practice. Made me become more healthier. So can you. I still enjoy the same recipes but learned the nutrition labels and made wiser ingredient choices.
Change is hard. But once you keep at it, it becomes you. Like any normal day.
Lots of hugs :)

I'm feeling better. The added pain from my foot/ankle makes the back and hip hurt more. Just something I have to deal with. I just need to get meaner at home so they will help out there. No one there is any busier than I am, but I seem to be the one bothered the most by undone stuff. I guess because I am the mom. Thank you for the support.

My family is lazy. I have to beg, plead, scream, shout and go exorcist to get any help. My husband could walk the dogs, but it hurts him to walk, so he won't. My daughter still at home works, has dance, and basically doesn't help. My son at home I have to force to breathe, much less help. I'm having a crappy pain day, so my outlook sucks right now. But, no, no one wants to help. Such is life.

OKGOATGAL - Being in a boot basically sucks. Good luck with getting clearance for stationary bike. Do you have someone who could take the dogs for a walk for you? At least then they wouldn't be going nutso with you.

Prayers and good wishes for speedy healing.

I'm behaving and the boot and compression wrap are helping quite a bit. I'm hurting more in my back and left hip from the uneven gait and limping, but not much I can do about that. I still get in 4-5000 steps a day at school. The dogs are going nutso needing their morning walk/run, but there's not much I can do about that either. I tried 10 minutes this morning. I'm not ready for that, at least without the boot. Elevating it is a challenge most of the day. The swelling is almost gone and the discoloration is slowly fading. It will be hard to take it slow. I'm just not a slow kinda gal. I'll be calling about a followup tomorrow to see if I can get clearance to ride a stationary bike here at school, so at least I can keep up some of my cardio.

OKGOATGAL, sorry to hear about your injury. If you can see a Physical Therapist, do it! Being a Physical Therapist Assistant, I stand by the profession, and they are more "specialized" than a regular doctor. Unfortunately, ligaments and tendons take a long time to heal.

Bless you for working with kids with special needs. I have a good friend who has an Autistic son, and although he is quite distractable, overall, he is a great kid!

Steps from my pedometer:

Monday- 13,410
Tuesday-18,386

Have a great Wednesday everyone!!

Ouch...I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad you went to the doctor. I missed a step on a small stairs waiting for our restaurant to call us. I fell and couldn't get up. I just hugged my knee and legs while my hubby helplessly looked at me. I just wanted to be still at the moment and prayed nothing was broken. I thought I was fine until over a week later, I found out my foot had broken bones. So therapy for a few weeks and wondrously my foot healed to normal. Now I can't remember which foot it was. Lol. Please take the physical therapy once the swelling's down. Hope you feel better soon. Lots of hugs.

So disgusted right now. One step forward 3 steps backward. I was finally making good progress again, my walk/run times were getting faster, I could run for longer times, I felt great. Then Sunday, on my 4th interval I somehow landed wrong and by the time I went to the dr after work yesterday, my ankle and foot were swollen horribly. I tore the ligaments and tendons in my foot. Really!?!? UGH! So now I'm back off my feet as much as possible for a couple of weeks then we'll see if it's healing properly. If not, more will have to be done. I'm in a boot and supposed to be using crutches, but I'm not hopping around school on crutches. I'll hurt myself even more. At least right now my students are maintaining their behavior (I teach special ed to students with severe ADHD, emotional problems, etc who have behavior issues that do not allow them to function at their best in the general education classroom).

I'm sorry to hear this, Jen. Yes, please contact Fitbit right away. I never called but contacted them thru my account and they replied back via email. They may be slow with replying back so please be patient but they stand behind their product. I used to charge via my laptop until I got my smart phone. Then I only charged thru plug in or via car but never had problems. So please do contact them soon.

Pam,
Maybe I need to contact fitbit as well. My charger has been temperamental, and it will only charge if I get it into specific positions. It will look like it is going to charge, but when I let go of it, it stops. I have propped it up on a variety of things to get it to stay charging, and it isn't even very old yet.

Step counts:

Friday - 12,454
Saturday - 13,376
Sunday - 11,444

These are from my Omron pedometer, because it is easier to access those numbers.

Back to work this Monday morning. Have a great week everyone.

Great news! emoticon
You know we all hear stories of Fitbit's customer service and how they are so awesome. I finally got a chance to try them out for the first time during my vacation. I washed my Fitbit when I did my laundry as we were on almost 3wks vacation. I remembered it when it was in the dryer. Omg-I panicked at that time.
At first I placed it in the rice bin hearing stories from others. After couple of days, I gave up. But then I didn't want to give up that easily as I was in love with that toy. Lolol
emoticon
So although I knew it was dead completely. I contacted Fitbit customer service and explained what happened. They informed me not to give up and follow few instructions. I did as I was told and Fitbit was alive again. But after I came back and few weeks, it wouldn't record my steps properly as the battery had to be charged twice sometimes 3 times daily. It was hectic. Then I kept it in the charger continuously for couple of days. That helped a little and was back to charged morning and evening.
I started to forget to wear it as it lost its value. Especially those days I traveled a lot or visited my family and friends. Although I walked but not consistently as I did before. During my vacation my best steps was 8miles. Oh how I wished I wore Fitbit that day.
So I contacted Fitbit again and explained my situation. Ta-da!! Replacement on it's way. I just love their customer service.
So if you missed me on Fitbit, sorry for not replying back as I didn't have any solution as I would only use Fitbit few hours of the day.
Can't wait for the new Fitbit and start showing my true steps again.
Have a great week team!!

I'm ranging between 7500 and 11000 counted on my phone m-f since school started. I do not always have my phone on me during the day, so it's not as accurate as it could be. You are not alone in counting your steps, I just don't get into this forum daily.

Step Counts:

Saturday - 23,714
Sunday - 13,080

Saturday's count is from my fitbit, but Sunday's is from my pedometer. On Saturday, I had my pedometer in my bra, and I don't think it captured my steps well, as my pedometer usually tracks more than the fitbit. So, I am recording the higher number for each day.
