I would never do that to you or anyone in person or online. You walk/jog at your own pace. There was a member when I created this team towards end of summer last year. They didn't have a pedometer for jogging but knew the route well. After some time passed by I learned how to create a goal using miles instead of steps. I think everyone has either Fitbit or any pedometer these days.

And welcome here on this team also. I'm very flexible with our teams as everyone has different goals. There are ways to compete with both our teams also. On the bottom where you see step goals, click on it and you'll see the entire team's actual step count for monthly and since they've joined. You can compete with your friends here and on our other 40s team. You'll have to manually include the steps on the fitness tracker. Or if you're interested in increasing your step count, Fitbit is a really great pedometer. I have Fitbit One which is useful for my hikes uphill as it counts floors. No battery required as it charges on my laptop or outlet. And you can also compete with their own website members.

My pedometer had instructions for measuring my stride. Take 10 steps then measure the distance from begging to end and divide by t0. this will give you the length of your stride. Then divide this number into a mile (feet/inches) and should come up with a pretty good estimate of how many steps you are taking on your walks. I also noticed that there is a "4 miles a day" goal...not sure if this would work for you. emoticon

Hi, hi, hi! Wow, forgot I'd joined this group! *is very bad* Sorry! I walk 10-12 miles per week, (I have an extremely sedentary job so I have to get out and walk after work) and I see that y'all measure everything in steps. How would I know how many steps without a pedometer, since I don't have one? Is there a way of knowing the average steps in a mile? I want to join the challenge (motivation never hurts!) but....without knowing it's kind of hard. emoticon

BEARSPIRIT: hope you'll recover soon!

JANA: Good combo skills! You are actually doing what the peripatic philosphers were doing in Ancient Greece. Bruise-free, I hope.
I would be afraid of banging in my furniture. Yet, I thought of it once I get a treadmill.

I've been struggling to meet my daily 10K steps during the week. Was 3,000 short yesterday!

One thing I have done, to combat boredom and feeling useless, is study some topic each month. A couple of weeks ago I decided to spend more time walking a circle around inside my house. Feeling cold while sitting around? Get up and walk. Well, a few days ago I started combining the two. Read my book while walking. After lunch today my pedometer wasn't yet where I wanted it, so I grabbed my book and started walking. 37 minutes later I finished the book and had walked nearly 2 miles. All pretty painless.

when you take long walks in a big town like jax, it's good to know some one who can tell you where the worst place are, so you don't have any problems on you walks, some red neck area are bad to.

Will, I'm so glad to see you back. It's like you've just answered my question. I was planning to send you email but here you are. I don't like being too pushy and wasn't sure and get delaying. Great!! I'm really glad you have someone to support you. It really makes it a lot easier.
From my experience, focus on the carbs. Especially the bad carbs. It's ok to stay in moderation.
Also, don't focus too much on the scale. Keep an eye on the body measurement too. To my surprise, my size is shrinking and I've already gone shopping twice to buy new clothes even though scale only moved a little.
It's because as you're walking a lot, you're also building lean muscle. And muscle is heavy so maybe measure yourself if you want or just be surprised like me.

Wow! What an attitude! And tell your hubby Lovelypampa says not to predict too early in the day. Lots of hours left before 11:59pm. Lol. I barely have 1,000 steps and it's already 9:30am but I'm going to get my 15k today.

Evidence of a change in attitude for me. This morning as we were reviewing our days, my husband said "You know you aren't going to be able to get all your steps in today." In the past i would have thought "He's probably right, why bother." But todayI said "It may be hard but I should do my best to make it happen." Go Team!

That's really good to hear, Will. Friends do come and go but family members even though we don't get a chance to see them or often as we like with our hectic busy lives, it's nice to know we can always count them (well most of them..lol) to be there and not be judged.

I usually walk, light walking of course, to warm up my muscles and that does the trick for me. And it's usually below or above the knee but I would think it still should help. Or lean towards the wall pretend you're doing wall pushups but rather stretch your legs. And I use Aspercreme (kind of like Bengay but without the smell) and that always helps me. Hope your leg feels back to normal again. And thanks for the lovely comments. Come and join us when you're feeling better.

Thanks everyone! I have never been a big believer in online communities, but I have to say it made a difference today. Since I got the fitbit, I have been able to see my steps over weeks. I do not have a single week where I did 10K everyday. That is my goal this week. Tonight on my dinner break I still had 30 minutes left and checked my steps. I was under 6K. I didn't want to walk. I was cranky, tired and generally feeling blah. But I wanted to be able to say I did it! I did 10K every day so I headed out. 20 minutes a few thousand steps later. I felt good and energized for what I could do the rest of the night.
Thanks everyone! You helped!

Today is my first 1pm-10pm shift of the semester. Last year I tended to just watch TV until it was time to go in. I want to use this time better this year. Today I did a 4.3 mile after breakfast. Now I am rewarding myself with one episode of TV.

Bear, I'm sorry about your wife. Good for you for eating healthier. I love sweets and always had the problem since I can remember. But after reaching my 40s I'm learning because my body is not behaving the way it did in my earlier years. Before considering losing weight, I had to work on my bad carbs first. Including running to Starbucks. I used to practically go daily when I worked but now I go barely go once a month. I bought a machine to make lattes at home so I can control the sugar and all the ingredients but even then cut back. And then keeping my good carbs within range. I do get over every so often but when I'm within balanced meals, it really makes a difference.

Unexpected twisted. Hubby asked me to go the gym. Usually I'm dragging but I was so happy he asked. I already got my 10k steps in. Maybe add a few more before bedtime.

That's awesome!!! It's weekend so spending time with hubby. It'll be 10,000 steps. Let's see what nice surprises/challenges we bring to the table for next week.

Went for a morning walk. First time I have gone out in the morning instead of the evening. I feel energized to start the day and am already at 7400 steps!

Good Morning,
Lester had to go to work early. I walked 3 miles 6500 steps in 52 minutes. Now its time for a shower and nap. I am off today. I wore my pedometer at work which is Walmart where I am a ZMS. I walked almost 8 miles yesterday. Everyone keep up the good work. Have a great weekend.

Excellent! Your life's about to be changed for the better. emoticon

By the way, this msg is for everyone. Fitbit is not a requirement for our both 40s teams. It is pricey so any pedometer will work. But Fitbit is more reliable than any pedometer I've had. Fitbit is 'smarter' than other pedometers like you can't 'shake' it to increase it's steps. You actually have to walk and be accountable for your steps.

There's a link out there to sync from Fitbit to SP. Let me know if you need it. It's super easy.

I hope you feel better soon KKZMOM11. You'll be back to your usual self in no time. Stay hydrated as it's good for the muscles.

Liz, I've seen your excellent progress before so during this time do the best you can and try not to push yourself too much. Our muscles get inflamed during any injury so it's good to do light walking instead.

Good Morning,
Hope everyone is having a great day so far. I got up and walked on my treadmill did more than planned 30 minutes 1.75, 3000 steps. this is much slower than normal due to a hurt foot the doc told me to slower it down bummer. To burn more calories I walk fast then slow and I incline. I will finish my challenge later today. Off to work where I walk between 5 to 7 miles a day. I am not counting that, because that is different. Have a blessed day.

Liz

Thanks, Sara. I just got a new idea. We'll have to setup a weekly challenge steps too. So, in case we can't make it during daily steps, there's still chance to make up before the week is over. I have my Fitbit set for Sunday to Saturday. What number of weekly steps should be we create the challenge?

I'm up for that challenge. I left a msg on Fitbit for Jolene. It was my fault for starting that msg. She really pushed me as I got in 12k steps. My best in a while. Lol. I think Fitbit site is partially down so I couldn't get back to her.

I aim for 10K. Whatever I do after reaching this goal is a bonus!

I sometimes have trouble to achieve my daily goal when I am tired, have too much work... or when it rains like today!

I try to do 10k steps walking daily. But I'm losing my motivation to commit until towards late evening. Perhaps laziness. Not sure. I would like to start walking mornings and do as much as possible before noon. So whatever I do rest of the evening is a plus.
I did it this morning on my own. Let's hope for tmrow morning.
